Australian Personal Income Tax Calculator

This is an Australian personal income tax calculator. It estimates the income tax, Medicare levy and tax offsets that apply to an individual who is a resident of Australia, based on rates set by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Australian residents are taxed on their worldwide income under progressive tax brackets: the first $18,200 is tax free, income from $18,201 to $45,000 is taxed at 16%, from $45,001 to $135,000 at 30%, from $135,001 to $190,000 at 37%, and anything above $190,000 at 45% (2024-25 and 2025-26 rates). On top of income tax, most residents pay the 2% Medicare levy, which helps fund Australia's public health system, with reductions or exemptions for low incomes. The Low Income Tax Offset (LITO) can reduce tax by up to $700 for lower earners and phases out as income rises. The former Low and Middle Income Tax Offset (LMITO) was a temporary measure that ended after the 2021-22 income year and no longer applies. Foreign residents are taxed under different rates with no tax-free threshold. Tax is usually withheld from wages through PAYG and then squared up when you lodge your annual return. This calculator is a general guide only and is not financial or tax advice; confirm your situation with the ATO or a registered tax agent.
