Smoking & Vaping Quit Savings Calculator

This calculator shows how much money you would save by quitting smoking or vaping in New Zealand, turning a daily habit into the powerful weekly, yearly and long-term numbers that can make quitting feel worth it. Cigarettes are among the most heavily taxed products in the country, and even vaping adds up faster than most people realise, so the financial cost of the habit over years is genuinely large, often tens of thousands of dollars, on top of the well-known health effects. Seeing that money laid out, and what it could become if saved or invested instead, is a proven motivator. You enter what you spend on smoking or vaping each day, the number of years you want to look ahead, and an optional investment return if you would put the savings to work, and the calculator returns your weekly, monthly and yearly savings, the total over the period, and what that total could grow to if invested. The numbers are often striking: a daily habit can cost more over a decade than a car, and invested steadily, even more. Use it as motivation to quit, to set a savings or debt-payoff goal funded by the money you free up, or simply to see the true price of the habit. Quitting is hard, and the health benefits dwarf the financial ones, but the financial picture can be the nudge that helps. How it works

The yearly saving is your daily spend times 365. Weekly is the daily times 7 and monthly is the yearly divided by 12. The total is the yearly saving times the number of years. The invested figure grows each year's saving at your chosen return, showing what the freed-up money could become if put to work.

Worked example

Spending $35 a day is about $245 a week, $1,065 a month and $12,775 a year. Over 10 years that is $127,750 not spent. If you invested the savings steadily at 5 percent, it could grow to around $165,000, which shows how a daily habit quietly costs a small fortune over time.
