Research and New Zealand reference data

Calculate.co.nz maintains 51 New Zealand reference datasets: current rates, thresholds and figures kept up to date for the people, journalists and tools that rely on them.

These datasets sit behind the calculators and are published openly so they can be used and cited. They are drawn from primary New Zealand sources, including Inland Revenue, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Stats NZ, MBIE and the Ministry of Social Development, and are reviewed on a twice-monthly cycle.

The full set is in the Reference Data section. It covers areas such as:

  • Tax rates and thresholds: PAYE brackets, GST, ACC levies, ESCT, student loan and Working for Families settings
  • Interest and housing: Official Cash Rate, mortgage rate context, average rents and house figures
  • Wages and cost of living: average and median earnings, minimum wage, inflation
  • Superannuation and benefits: NZ Super and benefit rates

Using and citing this data

You are welcome to reference these figures with a link back to the source page on Calculate.co.nz. Each dataset page shows what the figure is, where it comes from and when it was last reviewed, so it can be verified rather than taken on trust. If you are a journalist, educator or developer and need a specific cut of New Zealand data, please get in touch.

Data we compute and publish ourselves, free to use and cite. Each table is generated from the same engine as the matching calculator, so it stays accurate to the cent:

Core calculators are also available through a public REST API and an MCP server, and the site publishes llms.txt and a complete sitemap. See the By the Numbers page for the audited scale of the platform.
