Research and New Zealand reference data

This page is the hub for the New Zealand reference data behind every calculator on Calculate.co.nz, a maintained set of 2,354 datasets covering tax rates and thresholds, interest and housing figures, wages and cost of living, and superannuation and benefit rates. Each is drawn from primary sources, including Inland Revenue, the Reserve Bank, Stats NZ, MBIE and the Ministry of Social Development, and reviewed on a twice-monthly cycle so the figures match what is current now, not what was current when a calculator was first built. From here you can browse the full reference data section by topic, or go straight to the original datasets computed and published in-house, such as take-home pay by salary, income tax by bracket, KiwiSaver balance projections and mortgage repayments by loan size, each generated from the same engine as the matching calculator so the numbers stay consistent to the cent. Every dataset page states what the figure is, where it comes from and when it was last checked, so it can be verified rather than taken on trust, and you are welcome to cite it with a link back. Developers can also pull the core calculators through a public REST API and MCP server, or read the site's llms.txt file. Treat every figure as an indicative reference point and confirm anything you rely on for a formal decision against the official source.
