Privacy policy

Calculate.co.nz is built to be used without an account, a sign-up or any personal details. This page explains the small amount of information that is collected when you visit, why, and your rights under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

The short version

• There are no accounts and no sign-up. You never give us your name, email or any personal details to use the calculators or guides.
• The numbers you type into a calculator are processed in your own browser. They are not sent to us, stored by us, or saved on our servers.
• Like almost every website, we use Google Analytics to understand general traffic patterns, and Google advertising to keep the site free. These set cookies.
• We do not sell data. There is nothing personal to sell.

Information you give us

You do not need to give us anything to use the site. The only time you actively send us information is if you choose to email us or use the contact form, in which case we receive whatever you put in that message (for example your email address and your question) so we can reply. We use it only to respond to you and we do not add you to any marketing list.

Information collected automatically

When you visit, a small amount of standard technical information is collected to keep the site working and to understand how it is used. This includes:

• Analytics: we use Google Analytics 4 to see aggregate, non-identifying information such as which pages are popular, the type of device used, and the general region of visitors. This helps us decide what to build and fix.
• Advertising: Google advertising (Google AdSense and Google Ads) may be shown on some pages. This is what keeps every tool free. Google may use cookies to show more relevant ads and to measure their performance.
• Server logs: our New Zealand host, SiteHost, keeps standard web-server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability, as nearly all web servers do.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website can store in your browser. The cookies on this site come from Google Analytics and Google advertising, as described above. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings, and the calculators will still work. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, opt out of personalised Google ads at adssettings.google.com, and opt out of Google Analytics across all sites with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Third parties

The site loads a small number of trusted third-party services to function: Google (analytics and advertising), and content delivery networks such as Cloudflare and Google Fonts that serve common code libraries and fonts quickly. These providers operate under their own privacy policies. We do not share any personal information with them, because we do not collect any.

Your rights under the Privacy Act 2020

The New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 gives you the right to ask what personal information an organisation holds about you, and to ask for it to be corrected. Because Calculate.co.nz does not collect or store personal information about you beyond any message you choose to send us, in practice there is very little to request. If you have emailed us and would like that correspondence deleted, just ask and we will remove it.

Children

The site is suitable for all ages and is widely used in classrooms, but it is not directed at collecting information from anyone. As no personal information is collected to use the tools, this applies equally to younger users.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new review date. Material changes will be reflected on the page rather than emailed, since we hold no mailing list.
