This ready reckoner shows you the approximate monthly repayment on a New Zealand mortgage without having to enter a single figure yourself. It works out principal and interest repayments for seven common loan amounts, from $400,000 up to $1,000,000, against seven interest rates, from 5% to 8%, all calculated over a standard 30-year table loan term using the standard amortising repayment formula. Find the row closest to your loan amount, then read across to the column matching your current or expected interest rate, and you get the approximate monthly repayment for that combination straight away. It is a quick way to compare how repayments shift as rates move up or down, or to see roughly what a bigger or smaller loan would cost you each month, without doing any maths yourself. Because the table is fixed to a 30-year term and monthly repayments only, it will not fit your situation exactly if you have a shorter or longer term, pay weekly or fortnightly, or plan extra repayments; for those, and to enter your own precise loan amount and rate, use the full mortgage calculator linked from this page instead. The figures shown are for principal and interest only and leave out fees, insurance and future rate changes, so treat them as a fast indicative guide rather than an exact quote from your bank or lender.
