How to Budget RUC for a Fleet

Road user charges (RUC) are how diesel, electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles contribute to New Zealand's road network, in place of the fuel excise duty built into petrol. For a fleet, the budgeting maths is straightforward: work out the average distance each vehicle travels in a year, multiply by the RUC rate per 1,000 km, then multiply by the number of vehicles. Add the admin fee charged on each RUC purchase and you have a total annual cost you can put into your operating budget.

This calculator separates the two parts of the cost: the distance charge (the RUC itself) and the per purchase admin fee.
