Subscription Cost Calculator NZ
This calculator adds up the true cost of your subscriptions and recurring payments, spending that looks harmless line by line but quietly takes a surprising slice of income once every streaming service, app, membership and subscription box is counted together. You list each subscription, giving it a name, the amount you pay, and how often you pay it, choosing weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly or annually, and you can add as many rows as you need or remove ones you no longer use. The calculator converts every entry to a common annual figure, using 52 weeks and 26 fortnights a year, so subscriptions billed on completely different cycles can be added together fairly. It then returns your total annual spend, broken down into an equivalent monthly and weekly figure, plus a running count of how many subscriptions you have entered. Seeing the full annual number in one place is usually the moment people realise how much is quietly leaving their account, making it easier to spot subscriptions that have been forgotten or are no longer worth the money. Use the result to decide what to keep, what to cancel, and where you could redirect the savings, whether towards debt, savings or another goal. This is a simple addition tool based on the figures you enter, so double check your amounts and billing frequencies for the most accurate total.
Frequencies are converted using 52 weeks and 26 fortnights a year. Seeing the annual total often reveals services you no longer use; cancelling those is some of the easiest money to free up. General information to support your budget.
How it works
Each subscription is converted to an annual figure based on its billing frequency, then summed and divided into monthly and weekly totals. Because subscriptions bill automatically across different cycles, adding them up by hand is awkward, which is why they so often go unnoticed. Seeing the combined annual number is usually the moment people realise how much is going out and decide what to trim.
Worked example
A $20/month streaming service, a $15/month app, a $25/week gym, and a $99 annual membership add up to roughly $1,820 a year, about $152 a month. Cancelling even one or two of these can free up a meaningful amount for savings or debt.
