This calculator converts any hourly rate into an annual salary and shows what that works out to in take-home pay across New Zealand's PAYE, ACC and KiwiSaver system. It matters because a headline hourly rate alone does not tell you what you will actually bank each week, and job offers, casual shifts and contract rates are far easier to compare once converted to the same annual basis. You enter your hourly rate, the hours you work each week, the number of weeks you work each year (useful for casual, seasonal or part-year roles), your KiwiSaver contribution rate, and whether you have a student loan. The calculator returns your weekly, fortnightly and monthly gross pay alongside the equivalent annual salary, then breaks down PAYE income tax, the ACC earner levy, KiwiSaver deductions and student loan repayments to show your net annual take-home pay, net weekly take-home pay and effective net hourly rate. This effective rate is the most useful figure for comparing job offers, since it reflects what you actually keep after deductions rather than the number on the payslip. Adjust the weeks-worked field if you do not work a full 52-week year, and change the KiwiSaver and student loan settings to match your situation. Figures are based on 2026/27 PAYE tax brackets, ACC rates and minimum wage settings, and are indicative estimates only, not financial or tax advice.
The standard formula for converting an hourly rate to an annual salary in New Zealand is: hourly rate x hours per week x 52 weeks. For a standard 40-hour week this is your hourly rate multiplied by 2,080. However, because not everyone works 52 full weeks, the calculator lets you adjust the number of weeks to reflect casual, seasonal, or part-year employment patterns.
The New Zealand adult minimum wage from 1 April 2026 is $23.95 per hour, equivalent to an annual salary of $49,816 for a standard 40-hour week. The starting-out and training minimum wage is $19.16 per hour. For take-home pay from any of these hourly rates, use the fields above to see net pay after PAYE, ACC, and KiwiSaver.
