New Zealand Superannuation is the government pension paid to eligible residents aged 65 and over. It is not income-tested, so you can receive it while still working, though it is taxed as income. The rates below are fortnightly, after tax at the "M" tax code, effective from 1 April 2026. Rates are adjusted each year on 1 April in line with wages and prices.

Eligibility
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Age | 65 or older |
| Residency status | NZ citizen, permanent resident or resident visa holder, and ordinarily resident in NZ when you apply |
| Time lived in NZ | A minimum number of years living in NZ since age 20, including some since age 50. The minimum is rising from 10 to 20 years, phased in by year of birth. |
| Income or asset test | None; NZ Super is universal, not means-tested |
Because NZ Super is taxed as income, your net rate depends on your tax code and any other income you earn. If Super is your only income, you use the M code and receive the rates above. The Winter Energy Payment is paid on top during the colder months.
