New Zealand Superannuation is the government pension paid to eligible residents aged 65 and over. It is not income-tested, so you can receive it while still working, though it is taxed as income. The rates below are fortnightly, after tax at the "M" tax code, effective from 1 April 2026. Rates are adjusted each year on 1 April in line with wages and prices.

Eligibility

Time lived in NZA minimum number of years living in NZ since age 20, including some since age 50. The minimum is rising from 10 to 20 years, phased in by year of birth.
Income or asset testNone; NZ Super is universal, not means-tested

Because NZ Super is taxed as income, your net rate depends on your tax code and any other income you earn. If Super is your only income, you use the M code and receive the rates above. The Winter Energy Payment is paid on top during the colder months.
