Credit Score Impact Estimator

This estimator gives you an indicative sense of how common financial actions might move your New Zealand credit score, so you can understand which habits help and which hurt. Your credit score is set by the bureaus Centrix, Equifax and illion from your full credit file, and while the exact models are private, the factors that drive scores are well known: your history of paying on time, any defaults, how many credit applications you have made recently, how much of your available credit you are using, and the length and mix of your accounts. Missed payments and defaults do the most damage, recent applications each ding the score a little, and high card utilisation weighs against you, while a long run of on-time payments steadily lifts it. You start with your current score, then enter the number of missed payments, recent applications and defaults, and whether your card use is high, and the calculator applies rough adjustments to show an estimated score and band. This is a learning tool, not your real score and not a prediction the bureaus would endorse, so treat the direction and rough scale as the lesson rather than the exact number. To see your real score, request it free from any of the three bureaus.

Indicative only, not your real score. Bureaus use private models on your full file. Check your score free at Centrix, Equifax or illion. Estimate only.

How it works

Starting from your current score, the estimator subtracts a rough amount for each missed payment, recent credit application beyond the first, and default, and for high card utilisation, then adds a modest amount for years of on-time history. The result is clamped between 0 and 1000 and mapped to an indicative band. The size of each adjustment is illustrative.

Worked example

From a score of 700 with no missed payments, one application, no defaults, low card use and three years of clean history, the small positive history bump lifts the estimate to about 730, in the very good band.
