Honeymoon Budget Calculator

This calculator helps you build a realistic honeymoon budget in New Zealand dollars, pulling together every cost of the trip so you know the true total before you start booking or saving toward it. You enter your flights as a single total, accommodation cost per night, food and activities per day, the number of days away, and any other costs such as travel insurance, airport transfers or planned splurges like a special dinner. You also set a buffer percentage to cover the unexpected extras that tend to crop up on a big trip. The calculator multiplies the nightly and daily figures across your days away, adds the flights and other costs, then applies the buffer on top to give you the total honeymoon budget, the cost per day for the two of you, and the dollar value of the buffer itself. Seeing the cost per day is a useful sense check against the destination and length of trip you have in mind, and the total doubles as your savings target: divide it by the number of months until the wedding to see how much to put aside each pay cycle. A buffer of around 10 to 15% is sensible, since honeymoons rarely go exactly to plan. This is an estimate based on the figures you enter, so revisit it as quotes for flights and accommodation firm up.

Add travel insurance, transfers and a splurge or two under other. A 10 to 15% buffer covers surprises. Use the total as your savings target and divide by the months until you travel. Estimate only.

How it works

The calculator adds the flights, accommodation across the nights, daily food and activities across the days, and your other costs into a subtotal, then adds the buffer on top for the total honeymoon budget. It shows the cost per day so you can sense-check the trip. The total is the figure to save toward before the wedding so the honeymoon does not land on a credit card.

Worked example

Flights $4,000, $280 a night and $250 a day over 12 days, plus $1,200 other, is $11,560. A 12% buffer adds about $1,387, for a total near $12,947, about $1,079 a day for the two of you.
