This calculator works out a healthy weight range for your height, along with a single ideal weight estimate for comparison, so you can see where you sit against two widely used benchmarks. You enter your height in centimetres and, for the Devine formula figure, your sex. The tool then returns the weight range that corresponds to a body mass index of 18.5 to 24.9, the standard definition of a healthy BMI, shown as a lower and upper figure in kilograms. Alongside that range it shows a single ideal weight from the Devine formula, an older clinical formula based on height and sex that was originally developed for calculating medication doses, giving you a second reference point rather than one fixed target. The BMI range is deliberately wide, because many different weights are healthy for the same height once you allow for build and body composition. Use the result as a general starting point for thinking about your weight, not as a strict target to hit. Neither figure accounts for muscle mass, frame size, age, or where fat is carried on the body, so a muscular or large framed person can sit above the range and still be perfectly healthy. If you want a fuller picture, weigh this alongside your BMI and body fat percentage, and speak to a health professional for advice tailored to you.
A general guide only. Muscle, frame, and age all matter. See a health professional for advice.
The healthy range is the weight that gives a BMI of 18.5 at the low end and 24.9 at the high end for your height, found by multiplying each BMI by your height in metres squared. The Devine figure is a separate single estimate based on height and sex.
At 175 cm, a healthy BMI range is roughly 57 to 76 kg. The Devine ideal weight for a man of that height is about 70.5 kg. The range is wide because many weights are healthy for a given height.
