Height Calculator

This calculator does two things: it converts height between centimetres and feet and inches, and it predicts how tall a child is likely to grow as an adult. For the converter, type a value into any of the centimetres, feet or inches boxes and the others update instantly, so you can move between metric and imperial without doing the maths yourself, and the result box shows the matching height in both units side by side. For the predictor, choose the child's sex and enter the mother's and father's heights in centimetres, and the calculator applies the mid parental method: it adds the two heights together, adjusts by 13 cm up for a boy or down for a girl to account for the average height gap between men and women, then divides by two. It returns a predicted adult height in both centimetres and feet and inches. This is a well-known quick estimate used informally by parents and clinicians, and it is typically accurate to within about 9 cm of the eventual adult height, though genetics, nutrition, puberty timing and general health can all push a child above or below the figure. Use the converter whenever you need to switch units for fitness, travel, clothing or building work, and treat the predictor as a general guide rather than a medical assessment; it is not a substitute for advice from a doctor.

An estimate using the mid parental method, usually within about 9 cm of actual adult height.

Converting height

There are 2.54 centimetres in an inch and 12 inches in a foot. To go from centimetres to feet and inches, divide by 2.54 for total inches, then split that into feet and remaining inches. The converter updates the moment you change any box, so you can work in whichever units you prefer.

Predicting a child's height

The mid parental method is the most common quick estimate. Add the parents' heights, then add 13 cm for a boy or subtract 13 cm for a girl, and divide by two. The 13 cm reflects the average height gap between adult men and women. The real adult height depends on genetics, nutrition, and health, so use the figure as a guide.

Who this calculator is for

This calculator is for parents estimating a child’s likely adult height, and anyone converting or comparing heights.

What this calculator assumes
