KiwiSaver Contribution Comparison

This calculator compares KiwiSaver contribution rates side by side, so you can see exactly what each rate costs you now and what it is worth to you later. Enter your gross annual salary, your current age, your existing KiwiSaver balance, your employer's contribution rate, and your assumptions for annual investment return and salary growth. The calculator then builds a table showing your employee contribution, employer contribution, government contribution and total amount going into KiwiSaver each year, alongside the weekly cost to your take-home pay, at six rates: 3%, 3.5%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10%. It also projects your KiwiSaver balance at age 65 for each rate, plus the extra balance you would build compared with staying on 3%, and a key insight comparing what moving from 3% to 3.5% (and from 3.5% to 8%) actually costs versus what it adds to your retirement balance. Use it to weigh a small weekly pay cut now against a meaningfully larger nest egg later, especially since the default employee rate rose to 3.5% in April 2026 and employer contributions must match at least that level. Because the projections assume a constant return and steady salary growth over many years, treat the balance figures as indicative estimates only, not guarantees. Actual KiwiSaver performance depends on your fund, market conditions and fees, so revisit this calculator whenever your salary or circumstances change.
