SaaS Bookings Calculator

Bookings measure the total value of contracts your sales team signs in a period, before any of that revenue is billed or recognised. This calculator adds the three building blocks of bookings together: new business won from fresh customers, renewals from existing customers extending their agreements, and expansion where current customers add seats, modules or higher tiers. The sum is your total bookings for the period, a forward looking signal of demand that often moves before revenue does. New Zealand SaaS and subscription businesses watch bookings closely because they capture commercial momentum that recurring revenue alone can lag. A strong bookings quarter today usually flows into higher recognised revenue over the following months, while a soft quarter is an early warning worth acting on. To use the tool, enter the contract value signed as new business, the value of renewals, and the value of expansions for the period. The calculator returns total bookings along with the share that comes from new business, so you can see whether growth is driven by winning logos or by growing the base you already have. A few tips sharpen the figure. Count the full contract value signed in the period, not the amount billed, since bookings and billings are different things. Keep renewals separate from new business so you do not overstate fresh demand, and treat expansion as its own line because it has very different cost and risk than winning a brand new customer. Finally, review the mix over time: a healthy business usually shows a steady flow of new logos backed by reliable renewals and rising expansion. Used this way, bookings become a dependable leading indicator of growth.

Bookings = new + renewal + expansion contract value signed. Estimate only, not financial or tax advice.

How it works

The calculator adds new business, renewals and expansion to get total bookings. New of 50000 dollars plus renewals of 30000 dollars plus expansion of 15000 dollars gives 95000 dollars. The new business share divides new by the total.

Worked example

With 50000 dollars new, 30000 dollars renewals and 15000 dollars expansion, total bookings are 95000 dollars. New business of 50000 divided by 95000 is about 52.6 percent of the total.
