ARR per Employee Calculator

ARR per employee is one of the clearest measures of how efficiently a subscription business turns headcount into recurring revenue. This calculator divides your annual recurring revenue by your full time equivalent headcount to show how much ARR each person on the team supports. It is a favourite metric for SaaS founders, finance leads and investors because it strips away the size of the company and focuses on productivity, making it easy to compare a small startup with a much larger competitor. To use it, enter your current ARR and your total full time equivalent employees, counting part timers as fractions so the figure is honest. The tool returns ARR per employee along with a monthly view so you can see the same efficiency expressed per month. A higher number generally signals a leaner, more scalable operation, while a lower number can flag overhiring, a heavy services mix or a product that still needs a lot of human support to deliver. There is no single right answer, since early stage companies investing ahead of growth will naturally sit lower, but the trend over time matters a great deal. A few good habits help. Use full time equivalents rather than raw headcount so contractors and part timers are counted fairly. Keep the ARR figure to genuine recurring subscription revenue and leave one off project fees out. Track the metric quarterly and watch the direction of travel, because a steady climb usually means your hiring is keeping pace with revenue rather than running ahead of it. Compare against peers at a similar stage rather than chasing an absolute benchmark, since context shapes what good looks like.

ARR per employee = ARR / FTE. Monthly view = ARR per employee / 12. Estimate only, not financial or tax advice.

How it works

ARR per employee divides your annual recurring revenue by your full time equivalent headcount. The monthly view takes that result and divides it by twelve. A higher figure usually points to a leaner, more scalable operation.

Worked example

With ARR of $6,000,000 and 45 full time equivalent employees, ARR per employee is 6000000 divided by 45, which is $133,333. Per employee per month is that figure divided by 12, which is $11,111.
