This inflation calculator shows you what an item, service or cost will be worth in the future once inflation compounds year after year, so you can see how much purchasing power your money loses over time. You enter the current price of the item and your expected annual inflation rate as a percentage, and the calculator compounds that rate every year to build a price table running from year one to year 100, with results shown for each of the first ten years, then at five-year intervals through to year fifty, plus the full 100-year figure. This lets you see, for example, what a $500 weekly grocery shop or a $30,000 car might cost in 10, 20 or 30 years at rates such as 2 or 3 percent. This helps you understand why a dollar today buys less than it will in future, and why cash savings lose real value whenever their return fails to keep pace with inflation. Use it to set realistic savings and retirement targets, to check whether a fixed income will stretch as far down the track, or to see how sensitive long-term costs are to small changes in your assumed rate. Because actual inflation varies from year to year and cannot be predicted with certainty, treat every result as an indicative projection based on a constant assumed rate rather than a guaranteed future price.
