This free Pomodoro timer helps you work in focused bursts using the time management method Francesco Cirillo developed in the late 1980s: alternating short stretches of deep concentration with regular breaks so your attention does not wear thin over a long day. Set your own work, short break and long break lengths in minutes, or leave them at the classic defaults of 25 minutes of focus, 5 minutes of rest and a 15-minute break after every fourth session. Press start and a large on-screen clock counts down the current phase, backed by a progress bar and a coloured label that shows whether you are in focus time, a short break or a long break. An audio alert sounds automatically whenever a phase ends, so you can look away from the screen without losing track of time, and pause, resume, skip and reset buttons let you adjust on the fly if you are interrupted. Below the timer, four running totals track completed pomodoros, total focus minutes, your current cycle number, and the phase coming up next, giving you a simple record of how much focused work you actually did. Use it for study, writing, admin or any task that benefits from sustained attention, and adjust the durations to suit longer creative sessions or shorter, sharper bursts of work.
Developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique structures your work into focused intervals (traditionally 25 minutes) called "pomodoros," separated by short breaks. After every four pomodoros, you take a longer break. The method combats procrastination, reduces mental fatigue, and helps you maintain sustained focus throughout the day.
The Pomodoro Technique is a registered trademark of Francesco Cirillo. This timer is an independent implementation of the publicly described method.
