Typing Speed (WPM) Test

This is a free typing speed test that measures how fast you type in words per minute, alongside your accuracy, the moment you start. Typing speed is a genuinely useful skill: faster, more accurate typing saves time every day at work and study, and many roles still ask for a words-per-minute figure. The standard measure counts every five characters as one word, which keeps results comparable regardless of how long the actual words are, and then divides by the time taken. Accuracy matters just as much as raw speed, since errors that need correcting slow you down and a fast but sloppy result is less useful than a steady, clean one. This test makes checking both effortless. A short passage is shown on screen; you simply start typing it into the box, and the timer begins automatically on your very first keystroke, so there is no fiddly start button to throw off the result. As you type, the test tracks how many characters you have entered correctly against the passage, and updates your words per minute, your accuracy as a percentage, the elapsed time and your word count live. When you finish, or at any point, you can read your speed and accuracy and hit reset to try again and beat it. Everything runs in your browser with nothing uploaded.
