This word counter gives you an instant, accurate breakdown of any piece of text, useful for keeping essays, cover letters, blog posts and social media captions inside a word or character limit. Paste or type your writing into the text box and the counts update live as you go, with no need to click a button. The tool returns six figures: total words, total characters, characters without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and an estimated reading time in minutes, based on an average silent reading speed of 200 words per minute. Sentences are counted from full stops, question marks and exclamation marks, while paragraphs are counted from blank lines between blocks of text, so leave a clear line break wherever you start a new paragraph. Below the counts, three live indicators show how your character count sits against the limits for Twitter/X (280 characters), Instagram (2,200 characters) and LinkedIn (3,000 characters), telling you exactly how many characters you have left or how far over you are. Copy, clear and select-all buttons let you manage the text without leaving the page, and a wider reference table further down lists limits for Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, SMS and Google meta descriptions. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type or paste is sent to any server, making it safe to use for confidential drafts, assignments or client work you are not ready to share.
