What size is a roll of turf?

Ready lawn is often sold by the square metre, or in rolls and slabs around 1 square metre each. Sizes vary by supplier, so set the roll size to match what you are buying.

How much waste should I allow for turf?

Around 5 to 10% covers trimming to fit curved edges and garden beds. Lay turf as soon as possible after delivery and water it well, especially in the first couple of weeks.

How it works

The lawn area is the length times the width. A waste allowance is added for trimming around curves, paths, and beds. Dividing the area to order by the size of one roll gives the number of rolls, rounded up.

Worked example

A 10 by 6 metre lawn is 60 square metres. With 8% waste you order about 65 square metres, which is 65 rolls if each roll covers a square metre.
