NZ Super Rate Calculator

This NZ Super rate calculator helps you see how much New Zealand Superannuation you can receive based on your living situation. NZ Super is the government pension paid to most residents from age 65, and the amount depends on whether you live alone, share a home with others, or have a partner who also qualifies. The rate is set as a net fortnightly figure after tax for the common M tax code, and this tool converts that into weekly and annual amounts so you can fit the pension into your household budget. To use it, choose your living situation from the list and read off the fortnightly, weekly and yearly figures. People approaching 65, current superannuitants and anyone planning retirement use this to understand the baseline income NZ Super provides and to work out how much extra they will need from KiwiSaver, savings or part time work. A few points are worth keeping in mind. The figures here are net amounts on the standard tax code, and using a different code or having other income can change the tax you pay and therefore the amount in your hand. NZ Super is paid fortnightly, so budgeting on a fortnightly cycle often works best. The single living alone rate is higher than the single sharing rate, and each member of a qualifying couple is paid their own share. Rates are reviewed and adjusted each year, usually from April, so always confirm the current figures with Work and Income before you rely on them for planning.

$1,038.94
Net per fortnight
Per week$519.47
Per year$27,012.44

Net rates on the M tax code, paid fortnightly. Weekly = fortnightly / 2, annual = fortnightly x 26. Estimate only, not financial or tax advice.

How it works

Each living situation has a set net fortnightly rate on the standard tax code. The weekly figure is the fortnightly rate divided by two, and the annual figure is the fortnightly rate multiplied by 26 fortnights in a year.

Worked example

For a single person living alone the net fortnightly rate is $1,038.94. Dividing by two gives $519.47 a week, and multiplying by 26 fortnights gives $27,012.44 a year.
