Age Calculator NZ

This calculator works out your exact age in years, months and days from your date of birth, plus the New Zealand milestones that age unlocks. Enter your date of birth, choose whether to calculate your age as at today or a specific date, and, if you want to check KiwiSaver eligibility, add the date you joined KiwiSaver. The results show your age in years, months and days, your total age in days, weeks and months, your next birthday and how many days away it is. Alongside these, you get two key milestone dates: your New Zealand Superannuation eligibility date, which falls on your 65th birthday, with a status showing whether you are eligible now or how many days remain; and, if you entered a KiwiSaver start date, your KiwiSaver withdrawal eligibility date, which is age 65 if you joined before turning 60, or five years from your start date if you joined after 60, whichever is later. Use this tool to confirm your exact age for forms and eligibility checks, to plan around your NZ Super date, or to work out when you can access your KiwiSaver savings. It assumes the Gregorian calendar and whole-day precision, without accounting for time zones. NZ Super rates and KiwiSaver rules can change, so confirm your position with Work and Income or your KiwiSaver provider before making financial decisions.

If you entered KiwiSaver before age 60, your withdrawal eligibility is at 65. If you joined after 60, it is 5 years from your membership start date, whichever is later.

New Zealand Superannuation eligibility

New Zealand Superannuation (NZ Super) is available to all New Zealand citizens and permanent residents who have lived in New Zealand for at least 10 years since age 20, with five of those years after the age of 50. The eligibility age is 65. There is no means test, so NZ Super is paid regardless of other income, assets, or savings. As at April 2026, the weekly NZ Super rate after tax is approximately $496 per week for a single person living alone, and $381 per week each for a couple. Check Work and Income NZ for current rates.

KiwiSaver withdrawal eligibility

You can withdraw your KiwiSaver savings when you reach age 65, or after five years of membership, whichever is later. For example, if you joined KiwiSaver at age 62, you would need to wait until age 67 (five years from joining) before you can withdraw. If you joined before age 60, your withdrawal date is simply your 65th birthday. The exception is first home withdrawal, which has different rules and is available much earlier. See the KiwiSaver first home withdrawal calculator for details.
