This calculator works out the total linear metres of cladding or panelling you need to cover a given wall area, so you can order the right quantity for a New Zealand renovation or new build. Cladding and weatherboard profiles come in different cover widths, and buying without checking this figure is a common source of wastage and reordering delays. You select your profile and cover width from a list of the most common New Zealand options, covering horizontal and vertical shiplap, rebated and standard bevelback, rusticated (scallop) profiles, and tongue and groove panelling in a range of widths from 55mm through to 180mm. You then enter the area to be clad in square metres and add a waste allowance percentage to account for cutting, overlaps, and offcuts around windows, doors, and corners. The calculator returns two figures: the total linear metres of cladding required based on your chosen profile width and area, and the total linear metres required once your waste allowance is added, which is the number you should actually order. Because board widths vary even within the same profile family, always double-check the exact cover width against your supplier's specification sheet before finalising an order, as small differences add up over a whole house. This is a materials planning estimate rather than a structural or building consent calculation, so confirm final quantities with your builder or supplier.
