How do I report a bug or a wrong figure on Calculate.co.nz?

Use the form on this page and choose either Bug or error in a calculator, or Figure looks wrong or out of date. Tell us which calculator, what you entered and what you expected, and include the page address if you can. Accuracy reports are the ones we act on fastest, because a wrong rate affects everyone using that tool.

How quickly will I get a reply?

We read every message. Accuracy and bug reports are prioritised and usually answered within a couple of working days. General suggestions and partnership enquiries can take longer. If your message is urgent, say so in the description.

No. Calculate.co.nz publishes free calculators and educational guides, and we are not authorised financial advisers, accountants or lawyers. We cannot advise on your personal situation, review your tax return or tell you what to do with your money. For advice on your own circumstances, speak to a licensed adviser, an accountant, or Inland Revenue directly.

Why does the form ask a maths question?

It is a simple spam check. There are two questions and both answers are checked on our server, with a fresh pair issued each time the page loads. It keeps automated submissions out without a third-party captcha service, which means no tracking scripts, no images to squint at, and it works with a screen reader.

What do you do with the information I submit?

Your message is emailed to us so we can reply. We do not sell it, add you to a mailing list, or pass it to third parties. The phone number is optional and we only use it if email is not working. See our privacy policy for the full detail.

Can I suggest a calculator you do not have?

Yes, and these suggestions genuinely drive what gets built. Choose Suggestion for a new calculator and describe the question you are trying to answer rather than just the tool name, because that tells us what the calculator actually needs to do. New Zealand specific gaps are the most useful of all.

NZ Bill Split Calculator 2026

Do you tip in New Zealand?

No, tipping is not customary or expected in New Zealand. Hospitality workers are paid at least the minimum wage ($23.95/hour from 1 April 2026) and prices on menus and bills include GST and the full cost of service. While some restaurants have tip jars and a few high-end establishments may accept tips, there is no social obligation to tip and staff will not expect it. This is a significant cultural difference from countries like the United States where tipping is standard.

How much GST is included in my restaurant bill in NZ?

All prices displayed and charged in New Zealand must include 15% GST by law. To find the GST component of any bill, divide the total by 23 and multiply by 3. For example, on a $100 bill, the GST is $100 / 23 x 3 = $13.04. The remaining $86.96 is the amount before GST. GST-registered businesses must provide a tax invoice showing the GST amount if you request one.

What is the fairest way to split a restaurant bill?

The most common approach in New Zealand is to split the bill evenly among everyone at the table. Most restaurants and cafes are happy to split payment across multiple cards. If some people had significantly more expensive meals or drinks, splitting by what each person ordered is fairer. For groups with a mix of drinkers and non-drinkers, many Kiwis split food evenly and have each person pay for their own drinks separately.

Can I ask a restaurant to split the bill in NZ?

Yes, almost all New Zealand restaurants and cafes will split the bill across multiple cards without any issue. Simply tell the waiter how you want to split it (evenly, or specific amounts per card). Some places may have a minimum EFTPOS transaction amount, but this is uncommon. It is also increasingly common for groups to use bank transfer apps to settle up afterwards, with one person paying the full bill and others transferring their share.

How do I split shared household bills fairly between flatmates?

For ongoing household bills like electricity, internet, and water, the most common approach in NZ is to split evenly between all flatmates. Some flats adjust for couples sharing a room (who might pay 1.5 shares instead of 2). For electricity specifically, if one flatmate uses significantly more power (for example, running a heater all day), some flats agree to adjust shares. It is a good idea to agree on the split method before moving in and record it in your flat agreement.

Coin Flipper

Is this coin flip truly random?

Yes. This coin flipper uses JavaScript's Math.random() function which provides a cryptographically sufficient pseudo-random number for each flip. Each flip has an independent 50/50 probability of landing heads or tails, just like a fair physical coin. The result of one flip does not affect the next.

What are the odds of flipping heads 10 times in a row?

The probability of flipping heads (or tails) 10 times in a row is (1/2)^10 = 1/1024, or approximately 0.098%. This is about 1 in 1,024. While rare, it will happen roughly once every 1,024 sequences of 10 flips. Each individual flip is still 50/50 regardless of what came before.

Why does my coin seem to land on heads more often?

With small numbers of flips, results can deviate significantly from 50/50. This is called short-run variance and is completely normal. Over hundreds or thousands of flips, the ratio will converge toward 50/50. This is an illustration of the Law of Large Numbers. Try flipping 100 or 1000 times using the multi-flip feature to see it in action.

Can I use this for making decisions?

Yes. A coin flip is a time-honoured method for making binary decisions. Some people find that the moment the coin is in the air, they realise which outcome they are hoping for, which helps clarify their actual preference. Either way, the result is genuinely random and fair.

What is the gambler's fallacy?

The gambler's fallacy is the mistaken belief that if heads has come up several times in a row, tails is now 'due'. In reality, each coin flip is independent. The coin has no memory. After 5 heads in a row, the next flip is still exactly 50/50. Past results do not influence future outcomes.

Dog Chocolate Toxicity Calculator NZ

How much chocolate is toxic to a dog?

It depends on the dog's weight and the type of chocolate. Signs typically begin around 20 mg of theobromine per kilogram of body weight. For a 10 kg dog that is about 36 g of dark chocolate, 87 g of milk chocolate, or as little as 7 g of cocoa powder. Ring a vet regardless of the amount.

What should I do if my dog ate chocolate?

Ring your vet or an after-hours veterinary clinic immediately, before symptoms appear. If the chocolate was eaten within the last couple of hours a vet can often induce vomiting and remove most of it. Take the wrapper with you so the cocoa content can be read off the label.

How long does it take for chocolate to affect a dog?

Signs usually appear within 6 to 12 hours, but theobromine has a long half-life in dogs of about 17.5 hours, against 2 to 3 hours in people, so effects can last for days. Waiting for symptoms before acting removes the window in which treatment is simplest.

Is white chocolate dangerous for dogs?

White chocolate contains very little theobromine, around 0.25 mg per gram, so theobromine poisoning is unlikely. It is still high in fat and sugar, which can cause pancreatitis, and any wrapper or foil eaten with it is a separate risk.

What are the signs of chocolate poisoning in dogs?

Vomiting, diarrhoea, restlessness, panting and increased thirst come first, followed at higher doses by a racing or irregular heartbeat, muscle tremors and seizures. If you see any of these after known chocolate exposure, treat it as an emergency.

NZ Moving Costs Calculator 2026

How much does it cost to hire movers in New Zealand?

Professional movers in New Zealand typically charge $120 to $180 per hour for a team of two movers with a truck, or $160 to $240 per hour for three movers with a truck. All prices include GST. A local move for a standard 3-bedroom house typically takes 5 to 7 hours, costing approximately $750 to $1,260 for the moving service alone. Costs vary by region, day of the week (weekends may cost more), and time of year (December to February is peak season).

How much does it cost to move between cities in NZ?

Long-distance moves in New Zealand are typically priced per cubic metre of goods rather than by the hour. Within the same island, rates range from $60 to $100 per cubic metre. For inter-island moves (including the Cook Strait ferry), rates are $80 to $140 per cubic metre. A 3-bedroom house has approximately 30 cubic metres of contents, so a within-island move might cost $1,800 to $3,000 and an inter-island move $2,400 to $4,200 for the transport alone.

How much does bond cleaning cost in NZ?

A professional bond clean (also called an end-of-tenancy clean) in New Zealand typically costs $200 to $500 depending on the size of the property and its condition. A studio or 1-bedroom is usually $200 to $300, a 2-3 bedroom $300 to $400, and a 4-5 bedroom $400 to $500. The clean should include all surfaces, oven, hob, bathroom, windows, and carpet vacuuming. Carpet cleaning is often an additional cost of $100 to $300. Keep your receipt as evidence for your bond refund.

How much does NZ Post mail redirect cost?

NZ Post offers a mail redirect service that forwards mail from your old address to your new address. The standard fee is $15 for a basic redirect. You can set this up online at nzpost.co.nz. The redirect typically runs for 3 to 12 months depending on the option you choose. It is a good idea to set this up at least a week before your move date.

What extra costs do people forget when moving house?

The most commonly forgotten moving costs include: bond cleaning ($200 to $500), packing materials such as boxes and tape ($50 to $300), mail redirect ($15), updating your address with banks and insurers (free but time-consuming), utility connection and disconnection fees (usually free for power and internet, but gas can be $0 to $80), storage if there is a gap between leases ($5 per cubic metre per week), and transit insurance for your belongings ($15 per $1,000 of goods value).

Percentage of a Percentage Calculator

What is a percentage of a percentage?

It is the result of taking one percentage of another percentage. For example, 20% of 50% means 20% of one half, which is 10%. You work it out by multiplying the two percentages together and dividing by 100.

How do I calculate a percentage of a percentage?

Multiply the two percentages and divide by 100. For 20% of 50%, that is 20 multiplied by 50, divided by 100, which equals 10%. The same result comes from converting both to decimals (0.20 and 0.50), multiplying them (0.10), and converting back to a percentage (10%).

Is 20% off then 10% off the same as 30% off?

No. Two stacked discounts are not added together. A 20% discount leaves 80% of the price. Taking a further 10% off leaves 90% of that, so you end up paying 0.80 multiplied by 0.90, which is 72% of the original price. That is a 28% total discount, not 30%.

How do I apply a percentage of a percentage to a dollar amount?

First work out the combined percentage, then apply it to the amount. For 20% of 50% of $400, the combined percentage is 10%, and 10% of $400 is $40. The calculator does both steps for you when you enter an amount.

Why can I not just add the two percentages?

Adding only works when both percentages apply to the same base. A percentage of a percentage applies the second percentage to the result of the first, so the values multiply rather than add. This is why stacked discounts, commissions on margins, and compounding rates always need multiplication.

Pomodoro Timer

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by short 5-minute breaks. After four work sessions (called 'pomodoros'), you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. The technique helps maintain focus and prevents burnout.

Why is it called Pomodoro?

'Pomodoro' is the Italian word for tomato. Francesco Cirillo named the technique after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer he used as a university student to track his work intervals. The tomato timer became the symbol of the technique.

Can I change the work and break durations?

Yes. While the classic Pomodoro uses 25-minute work sessions and 5-minute breaks, this timer lets you customise both durations. Common alternatives include 50/10 (for deep focus work), 15/3 (for quick tasks), and 45/15 (for creative work). Experiment to find what works best for you.

How many Pomodoros should I do per day?

Most practitioners aim for 8 to 12 pomodoros per day, which equates to approximately 3 to 5 hours of focused work. This may seem low, but the quality of focused work during a pomodoro is significantly higher than unfocused work. Track your daily count to identify your personal productive capacity.

What should I do during break time?

During short breaks (5 minutes), step away from your screen, stretch, get water, or look out a window. Avoid checking email or social media as these can extend your break and reduce focus. During long breaks (15 to 30 minutes), take a walk, have a snack, or do a non-work activity that refreshes your mind.

Slope Intercept Form Calculator

What is the Slope Intercept Form Calculator?

Calculate the slope-intercept equation of a line from any two (x, y) coordinates. See slope m, intercept b, the full y = mx + b equation, and an interactive draggable line graph.

Is the Slope Intercept Form Calculator free to use?

Yes. The Slope Intercept Form Calculator is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

What is slope-intercept form?

Slope-intercept form writes a straight line as y = mx + b, where m is the slope (how steeply the line rises or falls) and b is the y-intercept (the y value where the line crosses the y-axis).

How are m and b found from two points?

For two points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), the slope is m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1), and the intercept is b = y1 - m times x1. Substitute m and b into y = mx + b to get the line equation.

What does an undefined slope mean?

An undefined slope happens when x1 = x2, so the line is vertical. The slope formula then divides by zero, which is undefined, and the line cannot be written in y = mx + b form.

Spin the Wheel

Is the spin the wheel result truly random?

Yes. The wheel uses JavaScript's Math.random() to determine the final landing position before the spin animation begins. Each option has an equal probability of being selected. The animation is purely visual and does not affect the outcome.

How many options can I add to the wheel?

You can add between 2 and 20 options. Each option is displayed as a segment on the wheel with a distinct colour. Options are entered one per line in the text area. Duplicate entries are allowed if you want to weight the probability toward a particular option.

Can I use this for classroom activities?

Yes. Teachers commonly use spin the wheel for selecting students to answer questions, choosing topics for discussion, assigning group tasks, or picking activities. Enter your students' names or activity options and spin. It is engaging, fair, and removes the perception of teacher bias in selection.

Can I rig the wheel to land on a specific option?

No. The result is determined by a random number generator and cannot be predetermined or influenced. If you need to weight the probability, you can add an option multiple times (for example, entering 'Pizza' three times out of six options gives it a 50% chance instead of the usual equal share).

Does the wheel work on mobile?

Yes. The wheel is rendered using HTML5 Canvas and is fully responsive. It works on phones, tablets, and desktop browsers. The spin button works with both tap (touch) and click (mouse).

Standard Drink Calculator NZ

What is a standard drink in New Zealand?

In New Zealand, one standard drink contains 10 grams of pure alcohol. This is different from other countries: the US standard is 14 grams, the UK is 8 grams (one unit), and Australia is also 10 grams. The formula is: standard drinks = volume (litres) x alcohol percentage (ABV) x 0.789 (density of ethanol in kg/L). For example, a 330ml can of 5% beer contains 330 x 0.05 x 0.789 / 10 = 1.3 standard drinks.

How many standard drinks is a glass of wine?

A standard 150ml glass of wine at 13% ABV contains approximately 1.5 standard drinks. A large 250ml glass at 14% ABV contains approximately 2.8 standard drinks. A full 750ml bottle of wine at 13% ABV contains approximately 7.7 standard drinks. Wine servings at restaurants and bars are often larger than people realise.

What are the NZ low-risk drinking guidelines?

The current NZ alcohol guidelines recommend: for both men and women, no more than 10 standard drinks per week and no more than 4 standard drinks on any single occasion. At least 2 alcohol-free days per week are recommended. These guidelines were updated in 2020 to align with emerging research on alcohol and health. Pregnant women are advised not to drink alcohol at all.

How do I calculate standard drinks?

The formula is: Standard drinks = Volume (mL) x ABV (as a decimal fraction) x 0.789 divided by 10. The 0.789 figure is the density of ethanol (alcohol) in kilograms per litre. The 10 is because one NZ standard drink equals 10 grams of pure alcohol. For example: a 500ml bottle of craft beer at 6.5% ABV = 500 x 0.065 x 0.789 / 10 = 2.56 standard drinks.

Why does NZ use 10 grams and the US uses 14 grams?

Different countries chose different reference amounts when establishing their drinking guidelines. New Zealand and Australia both use 10 grams, which aligns with WHO recommendations. The US uses 14 grams, the UK uses 8 grams (called a 'unit'), and Japan uses 19.75 grams. This means drinking guidelines are not directly comparable between countries without converting to the same standard.

Time Calculator

How do I calculate time between two times?

Enter the start time and end time in this calculator. It subtracts the start from the end to give you the elapsed duration in hours, minutes, and seconds. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the end time is the next day (useful for overnight shifts).

What are decimal hours?

Decimal hours express time as a decimal fraction of an hour. For example, 1 hour 30 minutes = 1.50 decimal hours, and 2 hours 15 minutes = 2.25 decimal hours. Decimal hours are commonly used on timesheets, invoices, and payroll systems because they are easier to multiply by hourly rates.

How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?

Divide the number of minutes by 60. For example: 15 minutes = 0.25 hours, 30 minutes = 0.50 hours, 45 minutes = 0.75 hours, 20 minutes = 0.33 hours, 10 minutes = 0.17 hours. This calculator does the conversion automatically.

Can I add multiple time durations together?

Yes. Use the Add/Subtract mode. Enter a starting time, then add hours and minutes to it. You can repeat this process to accumulate multiple durations. This is useful for totalling shift hours across a week.

Does this handle overnight times?

Yes. If your end time is earlier than your start time (for example, start 10:00 PM, end 6:00 AM), the calculator assumes the end time is the following day and calculates the overnight duration correctly.

Concrete Calculator NZ

How do I calculate concrete volume?

Multiply length by width by thickness, all in metres. For a slab measured with thickness in millimetres, divide the thickness by 1,000 first. For example, a 4 m by 3 m slab at 100 mm thick is 4 x 3 x 0.1, which is 1.2 cubic metres.

How many bags of concrete are in a cubic metre?

As a rough guide, a 20kg bag of premix concrete yields about 0.009 cubic metres, so you need roughly 110 bags per cubic metre. A 25kg bag yields about 0.0112 cubic metres, roughly 88 bags per cubic metre. Always check the yield printed on the bag, as it varies by product.

When should I order ready-mix instead of bags?

Bags are practical for small jobs up to roughly half a cubic metre. Beyond about 0.5 cubic metres, ordering ready-mix concrete delivered by truck is usually cheaper, faster, and gives a more consistent mix. Most suppliers have a minimum order.

Why add a wastage allowance?

Some concrete is always lost to spillage, uneven ground, and over-filling. A wastage allowance of about 5 to 10% means you are not caught short part way through a pour, which can ruin the finish.

PTE to IELTS Score Calculator

What PTE score equals IELTS 6.5?

Pearson's July 2025 concordance puts IELTS 6.5 at a PTE Academic overall score of 55. Scores from 55 up to 62 fall in that band, with 63 crossing into IELTS 7.0. The older 2020 table said 58, and is still widely quoted by third party conversion charts.

What PTE score equals IELTS 7?

A PTE Academic overall score of 63 corresponds to IELTS 7.0 on Pearson's July 2025 concordance, and scores from 63 to 70 sit in that band. IELTS 7.5 requires 71.

Is the PTE to IELTS conversion official?

It is a statistical concordance published by Pearson, most recently in July 2025, showing how scores on the two tests relate across a large sample. It is not an official equivalence, and each university, professional body or immigration authority decides for itself whether to accept a converted score.

Does this calculator show the score needed for a New Zealand visa?

No, and deliberately so. English language requirements for New Zealand visas are set by Immigration New Zealand and change from time to time. Check the current requirement directly with Immigration New Zealand rather than relying on any third party table.

Stock Unit Calculator NZ 2026

What is a stock unit in New Zealand?

A stock unit is the annual feed demand of one 55 kilogram breeding ewe rearing a single lamb, which is roughly 520 to 550 kilograms of dry matter a year. Every other class of stock is expressed as a multiple of that, so a farm running sheep, cattle and deer can be described in one number. Farmers, valuers, banks, councils and real estate agents all use it.

Why do stock unit tables disagree?

Because no New Zealand body sets an official table. Published sources differ on almost every class: a hogget is 1.0 in one table and 0.7 in another, a dairy cow 6.8 or somewhere between 7 and 8.5. The differences reflect genuine variation in liveweight, production and system. That is why this calculator makes you choose a table and shows you both, rather than quietly picking one for you.

Which stock unit table should I use?

Use the one your audience expects. If you are preparing figures for a bank, a valuer or a council, ask which table they work from before you send anything, because the same farm can differ by several hundred stock units between tables. If it is for your own planning, the choice matters less than being consistent from year to year.

How many stock units per hectare is normal?

It depends entirely on rainfall, soil, contour and system, so compare against neighbouring farms rather than a national figure. Hard hill country may carry well under 10 stock units per hectare while irrigated flats carry many times that. The number is most useful as a trend on your own farm and as a check that your feed supply matches your feed demand.

Winter Hay and Baleage Calculator NZ

How much hay does a cow eat per day in New Zealand?

A dry cow eats roughly 2 to 2.5 percent of her liveweight in dry matter a day, so a 500 kilogram cow needs about 10 to 12.5 kilograms of dry matter. Because hay is around 85 percent dry matter, that is about 12 to 15 kilograms of actual hay. Baleage is much wetter at roughly 45 percent dry matter, so the same cow needs more than twice the weight of baleage to get the same feed.

How much does a round bale weigh in New Zealand?

A round hay bale is typically 200 to 350 kilograms and a small square 20 to 25 kilograms, but weight varies a lot with the baler, the crop and how dry it was baled. Round baleage is much heavier again, often 600 to 700 kilograms, because most of that weight is water. If you are buying, ask the seller what their bales actually weigh rather than assuming, because bale weight is the single biggest source of error in this calculation.

Why do overseas hay calculators give the wrong answer here?

Because they work in pounds and American bale sizes. A US small square is often 40 to 60 pounds and a US round bale can be 1,200 pounds, neither of which matches a New Zealand bale. Feeding rates quoted in pounds per head per day also need converting. This calculator works in kilograms and New Zealand bale weights throughout.

How much hay is wasted feeding out?

Feeding hay on the ground in a wet paddock can waste 20 percent or more, trampled or fouled. A ring feeder or a hay rack cuts that to nearer 5 to 10 percent. Wastage increases the number of bales you need to buy rather than reducing what the animals eat, so it belongs in the calculation rather than as an afterthought.

What is the 3D Graphing Calculator NZ?

Free online 3D graphing calculator. Plot z = f(x,y) surfaces, rotate and zoom interactively, and explore three-dimensional functions. Perfect for Year 13 and university maths in New Zealand. No download required.

Is the 3D Graphing Calculator NZ free to use?

Yes. The 3D Graphing Calculator NZ is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the 3D Graphing Calculator NZ made for New Zealand?

Yes. It is made for New Zealand students and teachers and runs entirely in your browser. It supports standard maths functions and suits NCEA Level 3 and university maths courses.

3D Printing Cost Calculator

How do I work out the cost of a 3D print?

Add three parts: material, electricity and printer wear. Material is the print weight in kilograms times the filament price per kilogram. Electricity is the printer's average power draw in kilowatts times the print hours times your power price per kWh. Printer wear spreads the printer's purchase price over its expected lifetime hours. Most makers then add a failure allowance of around 10% to cover failed prints, supports and purge waste.

How much electricity does a 3D printer use?

A typical desktop FDM printer averages 100 to 200 watts while printing, once the initial bed and nozzle heat-up settles down. At an average draw of 150 W, an 8 hour print uses 1.2 kWh, which costs about 36 cents at a NZ electricity price of 30 cents per kWh. Electricity is usually the smallest of the three cost components, well behind filament and printer wear.

What should I charge if I sell my 3D prints?

The figure from this calculator is your cost of production only. If you sell prints, add your design and labour time at a realistic hourly rate, post-processing materials, packaging and postage, then apply a margin on top. Many small sellers price at two to three times their material and machine cost as a starting point, then adjust for what the market will pay.

3D Render Calculator

How do I estimate how long a 3D render will take?

Render a handful of representative frames, average the time per frame, then multiply by the total frame count. Total frames are the animation length in seconds times the frame rate. A 10 second animation at 25 fps is 250 frames; at 4 minutes per frame that is 1,000 minutes of machine time, or 16 hours 40 minutes on one machine. Pick test frames from the heaviest parts of the scene, not the simplest, or you will underestimate.

How do render farms charge for 3D rendering?

Most online render farms charge per machine hour (or per GHz-hour or OctaneBench-hour), with the rate depending on the hardware tier and how quickly you want the job back. Priority queues cost several times the economy rate. Multiply your total machine hours by the farm's rate for your tier to estimate the bill, and render a short test batch first, because a slicer-style estimate rarely survives contact with a real scene.

How can I cut render time?

The biggest wins are usually cutting samples and enabling a denoiser, reducing resolution or ray bounces, optimising heavy materials like volumetrics and subsurface scattering, and rendering on more machines at once. Doubling the machine count roughly halves the wall-clock time but leaves total machine hours, and therefore the cost, about the same.

5/3/1 Calculator

What is the training max in 5/3/1?

The training max is a deliberately conservative number, usually 90% of your true one rep max, and every working set in the programme is a percentage of it. Lifting off a reduced max keeps the bar speed high, leaves room for the plus sets, and lets you add weight cycle after cycle without stalling early.

What do the percentages in 5/3/1 mean?

Each week has three working sets taken from the training max. Week 1 uses 65%, 75% and 85% for sets of 5; week 2 uses 70%, 80% and 90% for sets of 3; week 3 uses 75% for 5, 85% for 3 and 95% for 1; the deload week uses 40%, 50% and 60% for easy sets of 5.

What does the plus sign after the last set mean?

The plus marks an AMRAP set: as many quality reps as possible with that weight, stopping short of failure. Beating your rep record on the plus set is the main driver of progress in 5/3/1, and the extra reps also feed common variations such as estimating a new one rep max.

6 Month Calculator

How do you add 6 months to a date?

Keep the day of the month the same and move the month number forward by six, rolling into the next year if you pass December. For example, 23 July 2026 plus 6 months is 23 January 2027. If the day does not exist in the target month, such as 31 August plus 6 months, the date rolls back to the last day of that month, which is 28 February or 29 February in a leap year.

Is 6 months the same as 180 days?

Not usually. Because calendar months are 28 to 31 days long, six months spans anywhere from 181 to 184 days depending on where in the year you start. If a contract or notice period is written in days rather than months, count the days exactly instead of assuming 180.

Why do people calculate 6 months from a date?

Six month milestones turn up everywhere: fixed term reviews, probation periods, warrant of fitness cycles for older vehicles, immunisation schedules, savings goals, anniversaries and visa conditions. Working out the exact calendar date, and the day of the week it falls on, helps you set reminders and plan around weekends.

ABSI Calculator

How is ABSI calculated?

ABSI equals waist circumference divided by BMI to the power of two-thirds times the square root of height, with waist and height in metres. For a 90 cm waist, 175 cm height and 80 kg weight, BMI is 26.1, BMI to the two-thirds power is about 8.80, the square root of 1.75 m is about 1.32, so ABSI is 0.90 divided by 11.65, which is about 0.0773.

What is a good ABSI score?

Adult values cluster around 0.08. A lower score means your waist is smaller than your height and weight would predict, and large population studies have linked lower ABSI with lower premature mortality risk, while higher scores point to more central fat. ABSI is a screening number only, so discuss unusual results with your doctor rather than reading it as a diagnosis.

How is ABSI different from BMI?

BMI only uses height and weight, so it cannot tell fat from muscle or say where fat sits on the body. ABSI adds waist circumference and adjusts it for the waist your BMI and height would predict, so it specifically flags weight carried around the middle. Two people with identical BMIs can have quite different ABSI scores if one has a larger waist.

Acceptance Rate Calculator

How do you calculate an acceptance rate?

Divide the number of applicants accepted by the total number of applications, then multiply by 100. If a programme received 2,400 applications and made 300 offers, the acceptance rate is 300 divided by 2,400 times 100, which is 12.5 percent, or odds of about 1 in 8.

What is the difference between acceptance rate and yield rate?

The acceptance rate is the share of applicants who receive an offer. The yield rate is the share of offer holders who actually enrol or take the job. A programme can have a low acceptance rate but also a modest yield if many successful applicants hold offers from several places and choose to go elsewhere.

Does a low acceptance rate mean my personal chances are low?

Not exactly. The published rate is an average across every applicant, strong and weak. Your personal probability depends on how you compare with the entry criteria: grades, portfolio, interview or experience. The rate is still useful as a rough guide to how competitive the pool is and how many backup options you should line up.

Add Time Calculator

How do I add hours to a time?

Convert everything to minutes, add, then convert back. Adding directly in hours and minutes requires carrying at sixty rather than a hundred, which is where most manual errors come from.

Can I subtract a duration instead?

Yes, switch the direction to subtract. The same arithmetic runs in reverse, which is what you want for questions like when something must have started to finish by a given time.

Does it handle month boundaries?

Yes. The calculation is done in minutes and converted back using the actual calendar, so months of 28, 30 and 31 days are handled correctly, including February in a leap year.

Adjusted Body Weight Calculator

What is adjusted body weight?

Adjusted body weight is an estimate that sits between your ideal body weight and your actual weight. It is used when someone weighs well above their ideal weight, because using full actual weight can overstate certain body-size estimates while ideal weight understates them. The standard formula adds 40 percent of the excess over ideal weight back onto the ideal weight.

How do you calculate adjusted body weight?

First find ideal body weight from height and sex using the Devine formula. Then take adjusted body weight equals ideal body weight plus 0.4 times (actual weight minus ideal body weight). For a man of 178 cm weighing 100 kg, ideal weight is about 73.2 kg, so adjusted weight is 73.2 plus 0.4 times 26.8, which is about 83.9 kg.

When is actual weight used instead?

When someone is at or below their ideal body weight the adjustment is not applied, and their actual weight is used. Adjusted body weight is only meaningful when actual weight is above ideal weight, which is when the 40 percent correction narrows the gap between the two figures.

Anaerobic Threshold Calculator

What is the anaerobic threshold?

The anaerobic threshold is the exercise intensity where lactate starts building up in your blood faster than your body clears it. Below it you can sustain effort for a long time; above it fatigue sets in quickly. It is often expressed as a heart rate so you can pace training against it.

How is the anaerobic threshold heart rate estimated?

This calculator uses the heart rate reserve method. It estimates your maximum heart rate as 220 minus your age, subtracts your resting heart rate to get your reserve, then puts the threshold at about 85 percent of that reserve added back onto your resting rate. That usually lands near 90 percent of maximum heart rate.

How accurate is the estimate?

It is a guide, not a measurement. Real thresholds vary with fitness, genetics and training, and the 220 minus age formula for maximum heart rate has a wide margin. The accurate method is a laboratory graded exercise test measuring blood lactate or breath gases. Use the estimate as a starting point.

Antipode Calculator

What is an antipode?

An antipode is the point on the Earth's surface that is diametrically opposite a given location. If you dug a straight tunnel through the centre of the Earth from any point, it would come out at that point's antipode, which is the farthest place on the surface you can be from where you started.

Where is the antipode of New Zealand?

Most of New Zealand's antipodes fall in Spain and Portugal or the nearby Atlantic. Auckland at about 36.85 south and 174.76 east has an antipode near 36.85 north and 5.24 west, close to the Strait of Gibraltar off southern Spain.

How do you calculate an antipode?

Change the sign of the latitude, so a southern point becomes the same number of degrees north. Then shift the longitude by 180 degrees: subtract 180 if it is east (positive) or add 180 if it is west (negative), keeping the result between minus 180 and 180.

Ape Index Calculator

What is ape index?

Ape index, also called the gorilla index, compares your arm span to your height. The common version subtracts height from arm span, so a person 178 cm tall with a 183 cm span has an ape index of plus 5 cm. Another version divides arm span by height to give a ratio instead.

Is a positive ape index good for climbing?

Yes, a positive ape index means your reach is longer than your height, which lets you span between holds that are farther apart. It is often an advantage in rock climbing and bouldering, though technique, strength and flexibility usually matter more than reach alone.

How do I measure my arm span?

Stand with your back to a wall and stretch both arms out sideways at shoulder height, making a T. Measure the straight line distance from the tip of one middle finger to the tip of the other. Measure your height without shoes, then subtract height from span to get your ape index.

Arrow FOC Calculator

How do you calculate arrow FOC?

Measure the arrow length from the throat of the nock to the end of the shaft, not counting the point. Find the balance point by resting the finished arrow on an edge, and measure from the throat of the nock to that balance point. FOC percent is 100 times (balance point minus half the arrow length), divided by the arrow length.

What is a good FOC for a hunting arrow?

Most target and field archers run around 7 to 12 percent, while many bowhunters prefer roughly 10 to 15 percent for better penetration and a more stable flight. Extreme FOC setups can exceed 19 percent. There is no single correct number: more FOC improves forgiveness and penetration but lowers arrow speed and drops the point of impact at distance.

Does higher FOC mean a better arrow?

Not automatically. A forward balance helps the arrow steer and recover from the bow, which improves grouping and penetration, but too much weight up front slows the arrow and steepens its trajectory. The best FOC is a balance between forgiveness and speed for your bow, distance and target, so tune it to your own setup.

Audit Score Calculator

How is an audit score calculated?

Add up the points earned across every section and divide by the total points possible, then multiply by 100. For example, 63 points earned out of a possible 70 gives an audit score of 90%. Sections with more possible points automatically carry more weight in the total.

What is a passing audit score?

The pass mark is set by your audit standard or checklist, not by a fixed universal figure. Many workplace and compliance audits use 80% or 85% as the threshold. Enter your own pass mark and the calculator shows whether the score clears it.

How are audit sections weighted?

This calculator weights sections by their points possible, so a section worth 25 points influences the overall score more than one worth 10. To weight sections equally instead, give each the same maximum, or scale the points earned to a common maximum before entering them.

Average Calculator

How do I calculate an average?

Add up all the numbers and divide by how many there are. That gives the mean, the most common kind of average. Paste or type your numbers separated by commas or spaces and the calculator does it instantly.

What is the difference between mean, median, and mode?

The mean is the total divided by the count. The median is the middle value when sorted. The mode is the most frequent value. They can differ a lot when the data has outliers, so the mean is best for evenly spread numbers.

Can I average decimals and negatives?

Yes. The calculator accepts decimals and negative numbers. Just separate each value with a comma, a space, or a new line, and it will include them all in the mean.

Average Daily Gain Calculator NZ

How do you calculate average daily gain?

Subtract the starting weight from the finishing weight and divide by the number of days between the two weighings. The result is kilograms of liveweight gained per day, usually quoted in grams a day for sheep and deer and in kilograms a day for cattle. It is an average across the whole period, so it hides everything that happened in between, which is why a short interval between weighings tells you more about current feeding than a long one.

How long will it take stock to reach a target weight?

Divide the weight still to be gained by the current daily gain. The answer assumes the current rate continues, which is the assumption most likely to be wrong: gain falls away as feed quality drops through summer, as pasture covers tighten, and as animals approach their mature weight. Treat the figure as the best case from today's feeding rather than as a date to plan a kill space around.

Why weigh a sample rather than the whole mob?

Because the average is what drives the decision and a consistent sample tracks it well, provided the same animals are weighed each time and they were not chosen for being the best or the worst. Weighing different animals each time measures the spread in the mob as much as the gain, and on a wide spread that noise can be larger than the gain you are trying to detect.

Average Rating Calculator

How is an average rating worked out?

Multiply each star level by how many ratings it received, add those products together, then divide by the total number of ratings. For example, 48 five-star, 22 four-star, 8 three-star, 3 two-star and 2 one-star ratings give a total of 360 stars across 83 ratings, an average of about 4.34 out of 5.

Why is the average rating a weighted mean?

Each star level is weighted by how many people chose it, so a level with more ratings pulls the average towards it. This is the same as a weighted average where the value is the star score and the weight is the number of ratings at that score.

What is a good average star rating?

There is no fixed threshold, but many shoppers treat 4.0 and above as strong and are wary below about 3.5. The number of ratings matters too, since a 5.0 from three reviews is far less reliable than a 4.4 from hundreds.

Bacon Curing Calculator

What is equilibrium curing?

Equilibrium curing, or EQ curing, sets each ingredient as a percentage of the meat weight rather than by time in a heavy brine. Because you weigh in exactly the salt and cure you want, the bacon cannot become too salty or over-cured even if you leave it a few extra days, which makes it forgiving and repeatable.

How much cure #1 should I use?

A common rate is 2.5 grams of cure #1 per kilogram of meat, which gives about 156 parts per million of ingoing sodium nitrite, a widely used target for dry-cured bacon. Cure #1 is 6.25 percent sodium nitrite and 93.75 percent salt, so always weigh it on accurate scales.

Is cure #1 the same as ordinary salt?

No. Cure #1, also called pink curing salt or Prague powder #1, is dyed pink so it is never mistaken for table salt. It contains sodium nitrite, which protects against harmful bacteria during curing, and it is not a table seasoning. Follow the maker's guidance and keep it away from everyday cooking.

Balloon Arch Calculator

How many balloons do I need for a balloon arch?

Multiply the garland length by the fullness in balloons per metre. A lush organic garland runs about 36 balloons per metre, so a 3 metre garland needs roughly 108 balloons. A sparser classic arch uses fewer.

What size balloons should I mix?

Organic garlands look fullest with mixed sizes. A common split is about half at 28 cm (11 inch), 40 percent at 13 cm (5 inch), and 10 percent as 40 cm (16 inch) accent balloons dotted through for depth.

How long does a balloon garland take to build?

Allow roughly one to two hours to inflate and assemble around 100 balloons by hand. More balloons, more colours and a pump versus lung power all change the time, so buy about 10 percent spare for pops.

Baluster Calculator

How many balusters do I need?

Divide the railing length less one gap by the baluster width plus the maximum gap, then round up. For a 3000 mm rail with 40 mm balusters and a 100 mm maximum gap that is (3000 minus 100) divided by 140, rounded up to 21 balusters.

What is the maximum gap between balusters in New Zealand?

The Building Code clause F4 requires that a barrier on a deck or stair does not let a 100 mm sphere pass through, so gaps between balusters must be less than 100 mm. Many builders aim for around 90 to 95 mm to be safely under the limit.

How do I space balusters evenly?

Once you have the count, the even gap is the rail length minus all baluster widths, divided by the number of gaps, which is one more than the baluster count. Setting out from the centre keeps the two end gaps matching.

Basal Metabolic Rate Calculator

What is the Basal Metabolic Rate Calculator?

Calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) using the Mifflin-St Jeor formula. Find how many calories your body burns at complete rest. Metric and imperial inputs.

Is the Basal Metabolic Rate Calculator free to use?

Yes. The Basal Metabolic Rate Calculator is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the Basal Metabolic Rate Calculator made for New Zealand?

Yes. It is built for New Zealand and uses current New Zealand rules and rates where they apply. Results are indicative estimates and not financial advice.

Bathroom Mirror Size Calculator

What size mirror should I get for my vanity?

As a guide the mirror should be a little narrower than the vanity, leaving about 5 cm of bench on each side, and never wider than the vanity. For a 90 cm vanity that suggests a mirror around 80 cm wide, up to 90 cm if you want it flush.

How high should a bathroom mirror be mounted?

Leave about 10 to 20 cm between the countertop and the bottom of the mirror to clear the tap and splashback, then centre the mirror near eye level, roughly 160 cm above the floor, so it suits most people in the household.

Should the mirror be centred over the sink or the vanity?

Centre the mirror over the basin and tap rather than the vanity cabinet if the two do not line up, because that is where you stand. On a double vanity, use two mirrors or one wide mirror centred on the bench.

Batting Average Calculator

How is a batting average calculated?

In cricket the batting average is total runs scored divided by the number of times the batter has been dismissed. Not outs are excluded from the divisor, so 1,400 runs from 40 innings with 5 not outs, which is 35 dismissals, gives an average of 40.00.

Do not outs count in a batting average?

Not outs add to the runs but are not counted as a dismissal, so they raise the average. That is why a batter's average can be higher than their simple runs per innings.

What is a good batting average?

It depends on the format and level. In first-class and Test cricket an average above 50 is excellent, 40 is very good and 30 to 35 is solid, while grade and club benchmarks are usually lower.

Batting Strike Rate Calculator

How is batting strike rate calculated?

Strike rate is the runs scored divided by the balls faced, multiplied by 100, so it is runs per 100 balls. 75 runs off 50 balls gives a strike rate of 150.00.

What is a good batting strike rate?

It depends on the format. In Twenty20 a strike rate above 130 to 150 is strong, in one-day cricket around 85 to 100 is healthy, and in Test cricket occupying the crease matters more than a high strike rate.

Is strike rate the same in cricket and baseball?

No. This is the cricket batting strike rate, runs per 100 balls. Baseball uses different measures, and bowling strike rate in cricket is a separate stat measuring balls per wicket.

BBQ Grill Size Calculator

How much grill space do I need per person?

A common rule is about 465 square centimetres (72 square inches) of cooking area per person for a standard cookout, rising to around 600 square centimetres for big eaters or a party where everything goes on at once.

What size barbecue suits 10 people?

At 465 square centimetres each, 10 guests need about 4,650 square centimetres (721 square inches) of cooking area, which is a large barbecue that can sear roughly 40 burgers at a time.

Does the total grill size equal the cooking area?

No. Makers often quote the whole hood or lid size. The cooking area is the usable grill surface, which is smaller, so check the stated cooking area rather than the overall dimensions.

BC to AD Calculator

Is there a year zero between 1 BC and 1 AD?

No, in the proleptic Julian calendar (the historical calendar system used for dating events before the Common Era), there is no year zero. The year 1 BC is immediately followed by 1 AD. This means that when calculating the elapsed time between a BC date and an AD date, you add the two year numbers together and then subtract 1. For example, from 1 BC to 1 AD is 1 year, not 2. However, astronomers use a different system called astronomical year numbering, where 1 BC is written as year 0, 2 BC as year -1, and so on. This makes arithmetic easier but differs from historical convention.

What is the difference between BC and BCE?

BC stands for 'Before Christ' and BCE stands for 'Before Common Era'. They refer to exactly the same years; 44 BC and 44 BCE are the same year. The BCE notation is preferred in academic and secular contexts because it does not carry religious connotations. Similarly, AD (Anno Domini, meaning 'in the year of the Lord') and CE (Common Era) refer to the same years. This calculator accepts both conventions interchangeably.

How do I calculate how long ago a BC event occurred?

To find how many years ago a BC event occurred from a given AD year, add the BC year number and the AD year number, then subtract 1 (to account for the missing year zero). For example, Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. From 2026 AD: 44 + 2026 - 1 = 2,069 years ago. This calculator automates that arithmetic for any BC or AD start and end year combination.

Bean Bag Filling Calculator

How many litres of beans does a beanbag need?

It depends on the size. Estimate the cover's internal volume, then fill to about 60 to 80 percent of that so it stays soft but supportive. A large adult beanbag often takes 250 to 400 litres.

What filling do beanbags use?

Most use expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads, sold by the litre. Buy a little extra so you can top up as the beads compress over time.

Should I fill a beanbag completely?

No. Filling to around two thirds keeps it mouldable and comfortable. A fully packed beanbag is firm and less comfortable, and overfilling stresses the seams.

Bed Size Calculator

What size bed fits my room?

Leave about 60 to 75 centimetres of walking space on each side you use and at the foot. In a 320 by 360 cm room a Queen (153 by 203 cm) leaves 83.5 cm each side, which is comfortable.

What are the standard NZ bed sizes?

Common sizes are Single (92 by 188 cm), King Single (107 by 203 cm), Double (138 by 188 cm), Queen (153 by 203 cm), King (167 by 203 cm) and Super King (183 by 203 cm).

How much clearance do I need around a bed?

Aim for at least 60 cm to walk past comfortably and about 75 cm on the main access sides. Less than 45 cm feels cramped and makes changing the sheets awkward.

Belt Size Calculator

What belt size do I need for my pants size?

The usual rule is to buy a belt one to two inches larger than your pants waist size, so a size 34 pair of pants takes a size 36 belt. That puts your natural waist near the middle hole, leaving room to adjust either way. Belt sizes are normally even numbers, so round up to the next even size if your pants size is odd.

How is belt size measured?

A belt is measured from the fold where the buckle attaches to the middle hole, not the very end. That measurement is the belt size. If you measure an old belt this way and it fits well, order the same size. Otherwise take your pants size and add two inches.

Is belt size the same as waist size?

Not quite. Your true waist measurement and your labelled pants size can differ, and a belt sits slightly outside the trousers, so belt sizes run about two inches above your pants size. If you measure your bare waist, add one to two inches to allow for clothing and a comfortable fit.

Bikini Size Calculator

How do I measure for a bikini top size?

Measure snugly around your ribcage directly under your bust for the band size, then measure around the fullest part of your bust for the cup. The band size comes from the underbust measurement, and the cup comes from the difference between the two: roughly one cup letter for every 2.5 cm of difference. Keep the tape level and do not pull it tight.

How is bikini bottom size worked out?

Bikini bottoms are usually sized on your hips, measured around the fullest part. This calculator maps your hip measurement to a standard New Zealand dress size, where roughly every 5 cm of hip is one size up. If your waist and hips fall in different sizes, choose the larger of the two for a comfortable fit.

Why do bikini sizes differ between brands?

There is no single legal standard for clothing sizes, so each label cuts to its own block and target fit. A size 12 from one brand can measure differently from a size 12 from another, and imported labels often use US or European sizing. Treat the result here as a starting point and always check the specific brand's size chart before buying.

Birdsmouth Cut Calculator

What is a birdsmouth cut?

A birdsmouth is a right-angled notch cut into the underside of a rafter so it sits flat and square on the top plate of a wall. It has two faces: a level seat cut that rests on top of the plate, and a vertical plumb cut, called the heel cut, that bears against the outer edge. Together they let the sloping rafter lock neatly onto the wall.

How do you calculate the birdsmouth heel height?

The heel height is the seat cut length multiplied by the roof rise divided by the run. For a seat length of 90 mm on a roof that rises 150 mm over a 300 mm run, the heel height is 90 times 150 divided by 300, which is 45 mm. The roof pitch angle is the same setting you use on a speed square to mark both the plumb cut and the level seat cut.

How deep can a birdsmouth be cut?

A common rule, reflected in New Zealand timber framing practice, is that the birdsmouth notch should remove no more than one third of the rafter depth, so enough sound timber remains above the seat to carry the load. For a 190 mm rafter that limit is about 63 mm. If your heel height exceeds it, shorten the seat length or use a deeper rafter.

Blind Size Calculator NZ

How much should I deduct for an inside mount blind?

For an inside (recess) mount, order the blind slightly narrower than the recess so the fabric and brackets clear the sides. A common allowance is about 5mm off each side, or 10mm total. Always measure the recess width at the top, middle and bottom and use the smallest reading.

What is the difference between an inside and outside mount?

An inside mount sits inside the window recess for a neat, flush look, so the blind is made a little smaller than the opening. An outside mount fixes to the wall or frame above the window and is made wider and taller than the opening, usually overlapping about 40 to 75mm each side, to block light gaps.

How do I measure a window for blinds?

Use a steel tape and measure in millimetres. For an inside mount, measure the recess width in three places and the drop in three places, then use the smallest width. For an outside mount, measure the glass opening and add your chosen overlap to each side and to the top and bottom.

Board and Batten Calculator NZ

How do you calculate board and batten spacing?

Add the board width and the gap to get one repeating unit, then divide the wall width by that unit and round to the nearest whole number of boards. A batten covers each gap between boards, so the number of battens is one less than the number of boards for a run that starts and ends on a board.

How wide should the battens be?

The batten must be wider than the gap it covers so it laps onto the boards on each side. A batten around 40 to 65mm over a gap of about 40 to 50mm is common. Wider boards with wider gaps give a bolder look, while narrower spacing gives a busier, cottage feel.

How much extra should I allow for waste?

Add about 10 percent to the board and batten lengths for cutting, offcuts and the odd damaged length, and more if the wall has many windows and doors to cut around. Buy battens for corners and end trims separately, as this calculator counts only the battens over the gaps.

Board Foot Calculator

What is a board foot?

A board foot is a unit of timber volume equal to a piece of wood that is 1 inch thick, 12 inches wide and 1 foot (12 inches) long. In other words, one board foot equals 144 cubic inches, or approximately 2.359 litres (0.002359 cubic metres). The formula is: Board Feet = (Thickness in inches x Width in inches x Length in feet) divided by 12. Board feet are commonly used in the United States and Canada to measure and price rough-sawn timber. In New Zealand, timber is more often sold by lineal metre or cubic metre, but board feet are still used for hardwoods and specialty timbers, especially when importing from North America.

How do I calculate board feet for multiple boards?

To calculate the total board feet for multiple boards of the same size, simply multiply the board footage of a single board by the number of pieces. For example, if you have 20 boards each measuring 1 inch thick by 6 inches wide by 8 feet long, one board equals (1 x 6 x 8) / 12 = 4 board feet. Twenty boards equals 20 x 4 = 80 board feet. This calculator handles the multiplication automatically once you enter the number of pieces.

How do I convert board feet to cubic metres?

One board foot equals exactly 144 cubic inches, which converts to approximately 0.002359737 cubic metres. To convert board feet to cubic metres, multiply the number of board feet by 0.002359737. For example, 100 board feet equals 100 x 0.002359737 = 0.236 cubic metres. This calculator shows the conversion automatically alongside the board foot result.

Body Frame Size Calculator

How do I measure my wrist for frame size?

Wrap a tape measure around the smallest part of your wrist, just below the wrist bone on the hand side, where you would wear a watch. Read the circumference in centimetres and enter it along with your height. Keep the tape snug but not tight.

How is frame size worked out?

This tool divides your height by your wrist circumference to get a ratio, then compares it against standard bands. A higher ratio means a slimmer frame for your height. The bands differ for men and women because women tend to have finer wrists at the same height.

Why does frame size matter?

Frame size helps set a realistic healthy weight range, because a large frame carries more bone and muscle than a small frame of the same height. It is a rough guide only and does not measure body fat or health on its own, so use it alongside other measures.

Body Shape Calculator

How do I measure for a body shape calculator?

Use a soft tape measure over bare skin or thin clothing. Measure your bust around the fullest part of your chest, your waist at its narrowest point, usually a little above the belly button, and your hips around the fullest part of your hips and seat. Keep the tape level with the floor and snug without digging in, breathe normally, and take each measurement in centimetres. Measuring in a mirror or having someone help keeps the tape straight at the back.

What are the five body shapes?

The five common shapes are hourglass, where bust and hips are similar and the waist is clearly smaller; pear, where the hips are noticeably larger than the bust; inverted triangle, where the bust or shoulders are noticeably larger than the hips; apple, where the waist measures as much as or more than the bust and hips; and rectangle, where all three measurements sit close together without a strongly defined waist. The categories are broad, and many people fall between two shapes.

Does body shape affect health?

The shape label itself is a clothing and styling guide, not a health measure. The health-relevant part of the same tape measurements is the waist-to-hip ratio, because carrying weight around the waist rather than the hips is associated with higher cardiovascular and metabolic risk. This calculator shows your ratio alongside your shape, and our waist-to-hip ratio calculator explains the commonly used risk cut points in more detail.

Bottled Gas Cost Calculator NZ

How much does bottled gas cost a year?

It depends on how many 9kg or 45kg bottles you use and the refill price. Bottled LPG avoids the daily fixed charge of piped gas, but costs more per unit of energy, so the yearly cost comes down to how many bottles you get through.

Is bottled gas cheaper than piped gas?

For low use like cooking only, bottled gas can be cheaper because there is no daily fixed charge. For high use like hot water and heating, piped gas may work out cheaper per unit despite the fixed charge.

What bottle sizes are common?

9kg bottles are common for BBQs and portable heaters, while 45kg bottles are used for whole-home cooking, hot water and heating. The price per bottle and how fast you use them drive the cost.

Bounce Rate Calculator

What is a good bounce rate for a website?

Bounce rate varies significantly by industry and page type. As a general guide: 26 to 40 percent is excellent, 41 to 55 percent is average, 56 to 70 percent is higher than ideal, and above 70 percent may indicate a problem unless the page is designed for quick lookups (such as a contact page or a calculator). Blog and content pages typically have higher bounce rates (65 to 90 percent) because visitors read the article and leave, while e-commerce and service pages generally aim below 45 percent. Always compare against your own historical trend and similar page types rather than a single universal benchmark.

How is bounce rate calculated?

Bounce rate is calculated by dividing the number of single-page sessions (visits where the user viewed only one page and left without any further interaction) by the total number of sessions, then multiplying by 100 to express the result as a percentage. For example, if your site had 1,000 sessions in a month and 420 of those were single-page sessions with no further interaction, your bounce rate is 420 / 1,000 x 100 = 42%. In Google Analytics 4 (GA4), the definition changed: GA4 uses an engagement rate instead, where an engaged session must last at least 10 seconds, have a conversion event, or include two or more page views. The bounce rate in GA4 is simply 100% minus the engagement rate.

What is the difference between bounce rate and exit rate?

Bounce rate measures sessions where the entry page was also the only page viewed: the visitor arrived and left without viewing any other page or triggering any interaction. Exit rate measures the percentage of sessions that ended on a particular page, regardless of how many pages were viewed in that session. A page can have a high exit rate simply because it is the natural last step in a user journey (such as a checkout confirmation page), without this being a problem. Bounce rate is more useful for identifying pages that fail to engage visitors immediately, whereas exit rate helps identify where users are dropping out of a multi-step flow.

Bowl Segment Calculator

What miter angle do I cut for a segmented ring?

The miter angle at each end of a segment is 180 divided by the number of segments in the ring. For 12 segments that is 180 divided by 12, which is 15 degrees at each end, giving a 30 degree included angle per wedge.

How long should each segment be?

The long, outer edge of each segment is the outside diameter times the tangent of 180 divided by the number of segments. A 250 mm ring of 12 segments has an outer edge of about 67 mm, and the short inner edge depends on the board width you use.

How much board length do I need for a ring?

Multiply the long edge length by the number of segments, then add a little for the saw kerf and trimming between cuts. A 12 segment 250 mm ring needs roughly 800 mm of board plus waste, so allow around a metre to be safe.

Bowling Average Calculator

How is a bowling average calculated?

In cricket the bowling average is the number of runs conceded divided by the number of wickets taken. Concede 480 runs and take 20 wickets and the average is 480 divided by 20, which is 24.00 runs per wicket. A lower average is better.

What is the difference between average, economy and strike rate?

Bowling average is runs per wicket, economy rate is runs conceded per over, and bowling strike rate is balls bowled per wicket. Average measures cost per wicket, economy measures how tight you bowl, and strike rate measures how often you take a wicket.

What is a good bowling average?

It depends on the format and level. In Test and first-class cricket an average under 25 is very good and under 20 is outstanding, while limited-overs bowlers are often judged more on economy rate than on average. Club benchmarks are usually higher.

BPM Calculator

How do I work out milliseconds per beat from BPM?

Divide 60,000 by the tempo, because there are 60,000 milliseconds in a minute. At 120 BPM each beat lasts 60,000 / 120 = 500 ms. Halve that for an eighth note (250 ms), halve again for a sixteenth (125 ms), and multiply by four for a full bar of 4/4 (2,000 ms).

What is a good BPM for a song?

It depends on the style. Ballads usually sit around 60 to 80 BPM, hip hop around 80 to 100, pop around 100 to 130, house and techno around 120 to 130, trance around 130 to 140, and drum and bass around 170 to 175. Most chart music lands between 90 and 130 BPM, so that range is a safe starting point.

How does tap tempo work?

You tap a button in time with the music and the calculator records the time of each tap. It averages the gaps between taps, then divides 60,000 by that average gap to get beats per minute. More taps give a steadier average, so tap along for at least a full bar. If you stop for more than a couple of seconds the count resets and you can start fresh.

Bra Size Calculator NZ

How do I measure for a bra?

Measure your underbust snugly just under your bust for the band, and measure your bust around the fullest part for the cup. Keep the tape level and wear an unpadded bra or none. Both measurements in centimetres are all this calculator needs.

How is the cup size worked out?

The cup comes from the difference between your bust and underbust measurements. Each roughly 2.5 cm, or one inch, of difference is one cup size, so a 5 cm difference is about a B cup and a 15 cm difference is about an E. The calculator does this conversion for you.

Why does my size vary between brands?

Bra sizing is not perfectly standard, so the same labelled size can fit differently across brands and styles. Use this as a starting point, then try the band and cup either side of it. New Zealand uses UK sizing, so your result matches UK labelled bras.

Brine Calculator

How do I calculate a salt brine percentage?

Most fermenting and brining recipes set the brine strength as a percentage of the water weight, where one litre of water weighs 1000 grams. So a 3 percent brine in 2 litres of water needs 2000 times 0.03, which is 60 grams of salt. Weigh the salt rather than measuring by spoon, because salt crystals vary a lot in density.

What brine percentage should I use?

For lacto fermenting vegetables a 2 to 3 percent brine is typical, firmer vegetables and warmer weather sit around 3.5 to 5 percent, and a wet brine for meat or poultry is often 5 to 8 percent. Follow your recipe, since the right strength depends on what you are preserving and how long for.

Is brine percentage measured by water weight or total weight?

Recipes usually mean salt as a percentage of the water weight, which is the figure this calculator uses. The salinity of the finished brine, salt divided by the total weight of salt plus water, is slightly lower: a 3 percent brine by water weight is about 2.9 percent salinity of the whole solution.

Bulb Spacing Calculator

How far apart should I plant flower bulbs?

A common rule is to space bulbs about three times their own width apart. In practice tulips and daffodils sit around 10 to 15 cm apart, small bulbs like crocus and grape hyacinth around 5 to 8 cm, and large alliums 20 cm or more. Closer spacing gives a fuller display in the first season, while wider spacing leaves room for the clumps to multiply.

How many bulbs do I need per square metre?

On a square grid the number per square metre is 100 divided by the spacing in centimetres, squared. At 12 cm spacing that is about 69 bulbs per square metre, at 10 cm about 100, and at 15 cm about 44. Multiply by your bed area in square metres for the total, then round up so you have a few spare.

Should I plant bulbs in a grid or naturally?

A grid gives a formal, even display and is easy to plan, which is what this calculator assumes. For a natural drift, scatter the same number of bulbs by hand and plant them where they land. A triangular or staggered layout fits roughly 15 percent more bulbs into the same area than a square grid at the same spacing.

Buy vs Hire Tools Calculator NZ 2026

Should I buy or hire a tool?

Buy tools you use often, where the cost per use becomes small and you can resell later. Hire expensive or bulky equipment you will rarely use, such as a mixer, sander or scaffolding. This calculator compares the net buy cost against total hire to give a clear answer.

What is the break-even point?

It is the number of use-days at which buying becomes cheaper than hiring, found by dividing the net cost of buying by the daily hire rate. If you will use the tool more days than the break-even, buying wins; fewer, and hiring is cheaper.

What costs are not included?

This compares purchase and hire only. Owning also brings maintenance, servicing, storage space and the time to look after a tool, while hiring brings booking, pickup and return effort. Factor these in if they are significant for your situation.

Caesar Cipher & ROT13 Calculator NZ

What is a Caesar cipher?

It is a simple substitution cipher that shifts every letter a fixed number of places along the alphabet, wrapping around at the end. Named after Julius Caesar, it is one of the earliest known encryption methods. A shift of three turns A into D, B into E, and so on.

What is ROT13?

ROT13 is a Caesar cipher with a shift of 13. Because 13 is half of 26, applying it twice restores the original text, so the same operation encodes and decodes. It is used online to lightly hide spoilers and puzzle answers rather than for real security.

Is the Caesar cipher secure?

No. With only 25 possible shifts, anyone can break it in seconds by trying each one, and it falls instantly to letter-frequency analysis. It is valuable as a piece of history and for teaching how ciphers work, but it must never be used to protect real information.

Caffeine Calculator

How much caffeine is in a cup of coffee?

A standard cup of brewed or instant coffee has around 95 mg of caffeine on average, though it ranges widely with the beans, the brew and the cup size. This calculator uses averages of about 95 mg for coffee, 47 mg for tea, 80 mg for an energy drink and 34 mg for a cola.

How much caffeine per day is safe?

Health authorities generally regard up to 400 mg of caffeine a day as moderate for most healthy adults. During pregnancy the guideline is lower, around 200 mg a day. Children, teenagers and people sensitive to caffeine should have much less, so treat 400 mg as a general upper marker, not a target.

What are the signs of too much caffeine?

Going well over your usual intake can bring on a racing heart, jitteriness, anxiety, an upset stomach and trouble sleeping. Sensitivity varies a lot between people. If caffeine is affecting your sleep or how you feel, cutting back and having none after early afternoon usually helps.

Cake Serving Calculator

How many servings are in a 20 cm round cake?

A 20 cm round cake has a top surface of about 314 square centimetres. Cut into generous party slices of about 25 square centimetres each, it makes around 12 servings. Cut into smaller wedding fingers, the same cake stretches to about 25 servings.

How do you calculate cake servings?

Work out the top surface area of the cake, then divide by the area of one slice. For a round cake the area is pi times the radius squared; for a rectangular cake it is length times width. Dividing by the serving size and rounding down gives the number of servings.

What is the difference between a party slice and a wedding slice?

A party slice is a generous everyday portion, so a cake yields fewer of them. A wedding finger is a smaller, taller slice traditionally served at weddings, so the same cake yields many more. The serving style you choose is what changes the count, not the cake.

Calendar Calculator

What day of the week was a given date?

Enter it above and the day is shown. The calculation comes from the calendar itself rather than a formula such as Zeller's congruence, so it is correct for any date the browser can represent, including well before 1900.

What is the day of the year?

The count of days from 1 January, where 1 January is day 1 and 31 December is day 365, or 366 in a leap year. It matters for anything accrued daily, such as leave, interest or depreciation.

How is the ISO week number worked out?

Week 1 is the week containing the first Thursday of January, and weeks run Monday to Sunday. That means early January can belong to the final week of the previous year, which is why counting weeks from 1 January gives the wrong answer.

Carat Weight Calculator

How do you estimate carat weight from millimetres?

For a round brilliant stone, multiply the girdle diameter in millimetres by itself, multiply by the total depth in millimetres, then multiply by a shape factor of 0.0061 for diamond. A 6.5 mm diameter stone that is 4.0 mm deep works out at about 1.03 carats. For other gems the factor is scaled by their specific gravity.

How many grams is one carat?

One carat equals exactly 0.2 grams, or 200 milligrams. So a 1.03 carat stone weighs about 0.206 grams. Carat is a measure of weight, not size, so two stones of the same carat weight can look different sizes depending on how they are cut.

Why does specific gravity change the result?

Two stones cut to the same shape and dimensions weigh different amounts if they are denser. Corundum such as ruby and sapphire is denser than diamond, so a same-size sapphire weighs more carats. The calculator scales the diamond factor by each stone's specific gravity to reflect this.

Yes. The Carbon Footprint Calculator NZ 2026 is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the Carbon Footprint Calculator NZ 2026 made for New Zealand?

Yes. It is built for New Zealand and uses current New Zealand rules and rates where they apply. Results are indicative estimates and not financial advice.

Cents to Dollars Calculator

How many cents are in a dollar?

There are 100 cents in one dollar. This applies to the New Zealand dollar, Australian dollar, US dollar, Canadian dollar, and most other currencies that use a dollar unit. To convert cents to dollars, divide the number of cents by 100. To convert dollars to cents, multiply by 100.

How do I convert cents to dollars?

Divide the number of cents by 100. For example, 350 cents equals $3.50, because 350 / 100 = 3.50. For partial cent values, the same rule applies: 1 cent = $0.01, 10 cents = $0.10, 99 cents = $0.99, 1,000 cents = $10.00, and so on.

How do I convert dollars to cents?

Multiply the dollar amount by 100. For example, $4.75 equals 475 cents, because 4.75 x 100 = 475. This is useful when working with prices, interest rates expressed in basis points, or financial calculations that require whole-number integer values.

Childcare Cost Calculator NZ

How much does childcare cost in New Zealand?

It depends on the hourly fee and hours, but free ECE hours for young children and the Childcare Subsidy can reduce the out-of-pocket cost a lot. This calculator works out your net cost after those.

What childcare support is available?

There are free ECE hours for children of a certain age, and a Childcare Subsidy for eligible families based on income and hours. Many families do not claim everything they are entitled to.

Is it worth returning to work after childcare costs?

Comparing your net pay from working against the net childcare cost shows whether it stacks up. This tool gives the net childcare cost so you can weigh it against your income.

chmod Calculator NZ

What does chmod 755 mean?

It sets the owner to read, write and execute (rwx), and the group and others to read and execute (r-x), giving the symbolic permission rwxr-xr-x. This is common for programs and directories, where the owner can change them but others can only use them.

How do octal permissions work?

Each of the three digits represents the owner, group and others. Within each digit, read is worth 4, write 2 and execute 1, and you add them: 7 is all three, 6 is read and write, 5 is read and execute, 4 is read only. So 644 means read and write for the owner, read only for everyone else.

What is the difference between octal and symbolic?

They express the same permissions two ways. Octal is the compact three-digit number used with the chmod command, while symbolic is the nine-letter rwx string shown in directory listings. This calculator converts the octal number into the symbolic letters and explains each.

Chord Finder

How do I work out the notes in a chord?

Start from the root note and count semitones. A major chord is the root plus the notes 4 and 7 semitones above it, so C major is C, E and G. A minor chord uses 3 and 7 semitones, a dominant 7th adds a note 10 semitones up, and a major 7th adds one 11 semitones up. Every chord type is a fixed semitone recipe applied to whichever root you choose.

What is the difference between a major and a minor chord?

Only the middle note changes. Both chords share the root and the perfect fifth 7 semitones above it, but a major chord places its third 4 semitones above the root while a minor chord places it 3 semitones up. That single semitone is the whole difference between C major (C, E, G) and C minor (C, Eb, G), and it is why major chords sound bright and minor chords sound darker.

Why does the chord finder sometimes show B sharp or a double flat?

Correct chord spelling uses each letter name exactly once, so a G sharp major chord is spelled G#, B# and D# even though B# sounds the same as C. The same rule produces double flats in chords like Eb diminished 7th, which contains B double flat and D double flat. These enharmonic spellings look odd on a keyboard diagram but they keep written music readable, because each scale degree keeps its own letter.

CIDR Calculator

What does CIDR notation mean?

CIDR stands for Classless Inter-Domain Routing. It is a compact way to write an IP address and its subnet mask together. The prefix length (the number after the slash, such as /24) tells you how many leading bits are fixed as the network portion. For example, 192.168.1.0/24 means the first 24 bits identify the network, leaving 8 bits for host addresses, giving 256 total addresses (254 usable hosts). CIDR replaced the older classful system (Class A, B, C) to allow more flexible allocation of IP address space.

How many usable hosts does a /24 subnet have?

A /24 subnet has 2^(32-24) = 256 total IP addresses. Two of these are reserved: the network address (the first address) and the broadcast address (the last address). This leaves 254 usable host addresses. In general, any subnet has 2^(32-prefix) total addresses and 2^(32-prefix) minus 2 usable hosts. The exception is a /31 subnet, which RFC 3021 allows to use both addresses for point-to-point links, and a /32, which identifies a single host.

What is the difference between subnet mask and wildcard mask?

The subnet mask is written with 1-bits for the network portion and 0-bits for the host portion. For example, /24 gives a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The wildcard mask is the bitwise inverse of the subnet mask: 0-bits for the network portion and 1-bits for the host portion. A /24 wildcard mask is 0.0.0.255. Wildcard masks are used in access control lists (ACLs) on routers and firewalls, and in OSPF configurations, to specify which bits of an address to match.

NZ Citizenship Calculator

How many days do I need in New Zealand for citizenship?

For citizenship by grant you generally must have been physically present in New Zealand for at least 1,350 days across the 5 years immediately before you apply, including at least 240 days in each of those 5 years, while holding a residence class visa the whole time.

Does time in NZ before I got residence count?

No. The presence requirement counts only days when you were in New Zealand as the holder of a residence class visa, that is a resident or permanent resident visa. Time on work, student or visitor visas does not count toward the 1,350 days.

What else is required beyond the presence days?

You must also intend to keep living in New Zealand, be of good character, and have a basic understanding of English. Applications are made to the Department of Internal Affairs, and processing takes several months, so meeting the day count is the start of the process rather than the end.

Cladding Profile Selection Calculator NZ

What is the Cladding Profile Selection Calculator NZ?

Calculate the linear metres of cladding required for your NZ build. Covers horizontal and vertical shiplap, bevelback, rusticated, and tongue and groove profiles. Includes waste allowance.

Is the Cladding Profile Selection Calculator NZ free to use?

Yes. The Cladding Profile Selection Calculator NZ is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the Cladding Profile Selection Calculator NZ made for New Zealand?

Yes. It is built for New Zealand and uses current New Zealand rules and rates where they apply. Results are indicative estimates and not financial advice.

Clothes Dryer Cost Calculator NZ

How much does a clothes dryer cost per load?

A vented or condenser dryer uses a few kWh per load, often costing 50 cents to over a dollar a load depending on the model and your power price. Heat pump dryers use much less, around a third of the energy.

Is a heat pump dryer cheaper to run?

Yes, considerably. Heat pump dryers use far less electricity per load than vented or condenser dryers, so although they cost more to buy, they save on running costs over time, especially for frequent users.

How does it compare with line drying?

Line drying is free, so a dryer's whole running cost is the price of convenience. Working out the yearly cost shows what that convenience is worth and whether a more efficient dryer would pay off.

Coffee Habit Cost Calculator NZ

How much does a daily coffee cost a year?

A single bought coffee on workdays can cost well over a thousand dollars a year, and more than one a day or seven days a week pushes it much higher. Making it at home costs a fraction per cup once you have a machine.

Is it worth making coffee at home?

For the money, yes; the per-cup cost at home is a fraction of a cafe price, so the yearly saving can be large. Many people keep a balance, buying coffee as a treat or social outing while making most at home.

What could the saving grow to?

Invested rather than spent, the difference between bought and home coffee can grow meaningfully over years thanks to compounding. This calculator shows the yearly saving and what it might become if invested.

Concrete Bags Calculator NZ 2026

How many bags of concrete are in a cubic metre?

Roughly 90 to 110 bags of 20kg premix make a cubic metre, depending on the bag yield, which is usually around 0.009 to 0.011 cubic metres per bag. This calculator uses the yield you enter so the count matches the bag you buy.

When should I order ready-mix instead of bags?

Once you need more than about half a cubic metre, mixing dozens of bags by hand becomes hard work and ready-mix concrete delivered by truck is usually cheaper and gives a more consistent pour. Use the cubic metre figure here to decide.

How much waste should I allow for concrete?

A waste allowance of around 5 to 10 percent covers spillage, uneven ground and slightly over-deep sections. Footings and post holes in soft or crumbly ground can need more, so round up rather than risk running short mid-pour.

Contract Milking Rate Calculator NZ

How does contract milking differ from sharemilking?

A contract milker is paid a fixed rate for every kilogram of milk solids produced, regardless of what the milk itself sells for. A sharemilker takes a share of the milk income and therefore rides the payout up and down. That makes contract milking the lower risk of the two on price and the higher risk on production: a poor season for grass hurts a contract milker directly, while a poor season for the payout does not.

What costs does a contract milker carry?

Typically labour including their own, some or all of the shed and electricity costs, vehicle and fuel, and administration, with the exact split written into the contract. The farm owner keeps the herd, the feed bill, animal health and everything attached to the land. Because the rate is fixed, every cost the contract milker carries comes straight off their margin, so which costs sit on which side matters as much as the rate does.

What contract milking rate do I need?

Divide the costs you will carry, plus what you need to live on, by the kilograms of milk solids you expect the farm to produce. That gives the rate per kgMS at which you break even, and anything above it is margin. The production estimate is the risky half of that calculation: the same rate on a farm that produces ten percent less than expected is a materially worse business, which is why the rate and the expected production have to be considered together.

Cost Per KM Calculator NZ 2026

How do I calculate cost per kilometre?

Add your fuel cost per kilometre to any road user charges per kilometre, then add fixed yearly costs such as insurance, registration and maintenance spread over your annual kilometres. The fuel cost per kilometre is your litres per 100 kilometres divided by 100, times the fuel price.

Do petrol cars pay road user charges?

Petrol light vehicles pay for road use through fuel excise in the pump price, so leave road user charges at zero for petrol. Diesel and electric light vehicles pay road user charges instead, currently around $76 per 1,000 kilometres for a light diesel, which you can enter in the RUC field.

Why include fixed costs per kilometre?

Fuel is only part of the cost of driving. Insurance, registration, warrant, servicing, tyres and depreciation happen whether you drive a little or a lot, so spreading them over your annual kilometres shows the true cost of each kilometre and helps with mileage claims and budgeting.

Cost Per Use Calculator NZ

What is cost per use?

Cost per use is the price of an item divided by the number of times you expect to use it over its life. It shows the real value of a purchase better than the sticker price alone.

Why does cost per use matter?

A more expensive item used often can be far better value than a cheap one barely touched. Cost per use helps you decide between buying cheap and buying well.

What can I use this for?

Anything from appliances and tools to clothing and a gym membership. Compare two options on cost per use to see which genuinely gives better value for how you will use it.

CRC32 Checksum Calculator NZ

What is a CRC32 checksum?

It is a 32-bit fingerprint of data produced by a cyclic redundancy check. Even a tiny change to the input almost always changes the checksum, so it is used to detect accidental corruption in files, archives and network data. It is fast and simple but not a security feature.

Is CRC32 secure?

No. CRC32 is designed to catch accidental errors, not deliberate tampering. It is fast to compute and collisions can be engineered on purpose, so it must never be used for security or for storing passwords. For those uses a cryptographic hash such as SHA-256 is appropriate.

What is CRC32 used for?

It verifies data integrity in ZIP archives, the PNG image format and Ethernet network frames, among many other places. Whenever a system needs a quick check that data has not been garbled in storage or transit, CRC32 is a common, efficient choice.

Cron Expression Builder NZ

How do I build a cron expression?

Decide how often the job should run and the time, then choose those options here and the builder assembles the correct five-field cron string for you, with a plain-English description to confirm it. Copy the result into your crontab or scheduler.

What are the five cron fields?

In order: minute, hour, day of the month, month, and day of the week. The builder fills each based on your choices, using an asterisk for any field that should match every value, such as every day or every month.

How do I run a job every few minutes?

Choose the every-N-minutes option and enter the interval in the minute field. The builder produces a step expression like */15 in the minute position, which runs the job every 15 minutes. Hourly and daily options fix the minute and hour instead.

Cron Expression Explainer NZ

What are the five fields in cron?

In order, they are minute (0 to 59), hour (0 to 23), day of the month (1 to 31), month (1 to 12), and day of the week (0 to 6, with 0 being Sunday). Each field controls part of the schedule, and together they decide exactly when a job runs.

What do the symbols mean?

An asterisk means every value of that field. A slash sets a step, so */5 in the minute field means every five minutes. A hyphen gives a range, such as 1-5 for Monday to Friday. A comma gives a list of specific values, such as 0,30 for on the hour and half past.

Why use a cron explainer?

Cron syntax is terse and easy to misread, and a mistake can make a job run far too often or never. Translating the expression to plain English lets you confirm a schedule does what you intend before you rely on it, and helps you understand schedules others have written.

Cron Next Run Calculator NZ

How do I know when my cron job will run?

Enter the cron expression here and the calculator lists the next several run times as full dates. It steps forward from now, checking every minute against the schedule, so you see exactly when the job will fire rather than having to decode the syntax in your head.

What time zone are the times in?

The run times are computed using your device's local clock, so they appear in your own time zone. Note that a real cron server runs in its own configured time zone, which may differ, so check the server's zone if it is not the same as yours.

What do the cron symbols mean?

An asterisk means every value of that field. A slash sets a step, so */15 in the minute field means every 15 minutes. A hyphen gives a range like 1-5 for Monday to Friday, and a comma gives a list of specific values. The five fields are minute, hour, day, month and weekday.

Cubic Feet Calculator

How do I calculate cubic feet from inches?

To calculate cubic feet from inches, divide each dimension by 12 to convert to feet, then multiply the three converted values together. For example, a box 24 inches long by 18 inches wide by 12 inches tall is 2 ft x 1.5 ft x 1 ft = 3 cubic feet. Alternatively, multiply the three inch measurements together to get cubic inches, then divide by 1,728 (because 1 cubic foot = 12 x 12 x 12 = 1,728 cubic inches).

How many cubic feet are in a cubic metre?

One cubic metre equals approximately 35.3147 cubic feet. Conversely, one cubic foot equals approximately 0.028317 cubic metres. This conversion is useful when dealing with shipping containers, concrete pours, and building materials where metric and imperial measurements are both in use. To convert cubic feet to cubic metres, multiply by 0.028317. To convert cubic metres to cubic feet, multiply by 35.3147.

What is the difference between cubic feet and square feet?

Square feet measure a two-dimensional area (length x width), while cubic feet measure a three-dimensional volume (length x width x height). Square feet are used for floor areas and surface areas. Cubic feet are used to measure the volume of a space or container, such as a room's air volume, a skip bin's capacity, or a concrete pour. You can convert from square feet to cubic feet by multiplying by the third dimension (height or depth) in feet.

Dairy Grazing Rate Calculator NZ

How is dairy grazing charged in New Zealand?

Usually as a rate per head per week, sometimes with a target liveweight gain written into the agreement and sometimes not. Winter grazing for milking cows is often quoted the same way over a shorter block of weeks. The rate on its own is not comparable between graziers, because what it buys differs: a grazier who delivers 0.7 kilograms of gain a day is providing something quite different from one delivering 0.4 at the same weekly rate.

What does grazing cost per kilogram of liveweight gain?

Divide the total grazing cost by the total liveweight the animals actually put on. That converts a weekly rate into the unit that lets you compare one grazing arrangement with another, or with keeping the stock at home. A cheaper weekly rate that produces less gain is often the more expensive option once you look at it this way, and the difference can be substantial.

Why express grazing per kilogram of milk solids?

Because it puts the cost in the same unit as the income. Grazing is one of the larger lines in a dairy budget and expressing it per kgMS lets it be set directly against the payout, alongside every other cost expressed that way. A grazing bill of a hundred thousand dollars means little on its own and a great deal when it turns out to be over a dollar a kilogram of milk solids.

Dairy Payout Income Calculator NZ

What is the Fonterra forecast milk price?

Fonterra's forecast farmgate milk price for the 2026/27 season is $9.25 per kilogram of milk solids, published with a range of $8.00 to $10.50. It was revised down from an opening forecast of $9.75. The forecast moves through the season as Fonterra updates it, and it applies to Fonterra suppliers: every other processor sets its own price, so the figure here is an editable default rather than an assumption about your farm.

Why does the forecast range matter more than the forecast?

Because the range is the company's own statement of how uncertain the number is, and at any real production level the two ends are a very long way apart in income. A farm producing 87,000 kilograms of milk solids sees a difference of $217,500 between the bottom and the top of a $8.00 to $10.50 range. Budgeting to the midpoint and treating it as a figure you will receive is how that gap becomes a surprise instead of a plan.

Does this include the monthly advance payments?

No, and deliberately so. Milk income arrives through the season as advance payments with a wash up at the end rather than as one lump, which matters a great deal for cashflow. The advance rate schedule was not verified against a primary source when this page was built, so rather than guess at the month by month timing the page gives the season total and says plainly what it does not cover.

Degrees of Freedom Calculator

What are degrees of freedom in statistics?

Degrees of freedom (df) is the number of independent values that can vary in a calculation without breaking any constraints. In a sample of size n used to estimate a single parameter (such as the mean), one degree of freedom is used up estimating that parameter, leaving n minus 1 degrees of freedom. Degrees of freedom matter because they determine the exact shape of the sampling distribution (such as the t-distribution or chi-square distribution) used to find critical values and p-values for a test.

How do you calculate degrees of freedom for a two-sample t-test?

For an independent two-sample t-test assuming equal variances (pooled or Student's t-test), degrees of freedom equal n1 plus n2 minus 2, where n1 and n2 are the two sample sizes. If you cannot assume equal variances, use Welch's t-test, which applies the Welch-Satterthwaite equation. This produces a non-integer df that is normally rounded down to the nearest whole number, and it is always less than or equal to n1 plus n2 minus 2.

What is the degrees of freedom formula for chi-square and ANOVA?

For a chi-square goodness of fit test, df equals the number of categories minus 1. For a chi-square test of independence on a contingency table, df equals (rows minus 1) multiplied by (columns minus 1). For a one-way ANOVA, the between-groups df equals the number of groups minus 1, the within-groups (error) df equals the total sample size minus the number of groups, and the total df equals the total sample size minus 1.

Dimes to Dollars Calculator

How many dimes are in a dollar?

There are 10 dimes in one dollar. A dime is worth 10 cents, and since there are 100 cents in a dollar, 100 divided by 10 equals 10 dimes. To convert dimes to dollars, divide the number of dimes by 10. To convert dollars to dimes, multiply by 10.

How do I convert dimes to dollars?

Divide the number of dimes by 10. For example, 35 dimes equals $3.50, because 35 / 10 = 3.50. This works because each dime is worth exactly 10 cents, or one tenth of a dollar.

What is a dime worth in NZD?

A dime is a United States coin worth 10 US cents (US$0.10). New Zealand does not use dimes; its coins are 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2. If you are converting US dimes into New Zealand dollars, you first convert dimes to US dollars (dimes divided by 10), then apply the current NZD/USD exchange rate, which changes daily. This calculator converts dimes to their face-value dollar amount only, and does not apply a currency exchange rate.

Discount Stacking Calculator NZ

Do stacked discounts add up?

No. Discounts applied one after another multiply rather than add, because each later discount applies to the already-reduced price. So 20 percent then 10 percent is not 30 percent off; it is 28 percent off, since the 10 percent comes off the 80 percent price.

What is the effective discount?

It is the single discount that would give the same final price as all the stacked discounts combined. The calculator works it out so you can see the true saving compared with the headline percentages added together.

Does the order of discounts matter?

For percentage discounts, no, the final price is the same whatever order they are applied. It can matter when a fixed-dollar amount is mixed in with percentages, but for percentage-only stacking the result is identical.

Double Glazing Payback Calculator NZ

Does double glazing pay for itself?

Double glazing reduces heat loss, so you spend less on heating. The energy saving alone often has a long payback, but the comfort, reduced condensation and warmer, healthier home are major benefits that the dollar figure does not capture.

How much does double glazing save on power?

It depends on your climate, how much you heat, and how much glazing you have. The saving is the share of your heating bill that the glazing cuts, which this calculator lets you estimate against the install cost.

Is it worth it for an older home?

Retrofitting double glazing is one of the pricier efficiency upgrades, so the pure payback can be long. Many people do it for comfort and to reduce damp and mould, and consider the energy saving a bonus.

Drench Dose Checker NZ

Should I drench to the average weight or the heaviest animal?

The standard New Zealand guidance is to weigh the mob and dose to the heaviest animal in it, and to split the mob into weight ranges where the spread is wide. Dosing to the average means every animal above the average gets less than the label rate. Underdosing is widely identified as a driver of drench resistance, because a sub-lethal dose leaves the more resistant worms behind to breed. The Beef and Lamb New Zealand Wormwise programme is the New Zealand reference on this.

How do I work out the drench dose from the label?

Labels give a dose rate against liveweight, most often as millilitres per 10 kilograms for sheep drenches and per kilogram or per 50 kilograms for some cattle products. Divide the animal's weight by the weight step on the label and multiply by the millilitres for that step. Then round up to the next graduation your drench gun can actually deliver, because rounding down puts you under the label rate.

Why do people underdose stock without meaning to?

Because weight is estimated by eye rather than measured, and eye estimates of liveweight tend to run low. A drench gun that has not been checked adds to it, since a gun delivering less than its setting shows the right number and gives the wrong volume. Both errors run in the same direction, towards a dose below the label rate. Weighing a sample of the mob and squirting a few doses into a measuring cylinder are what catch them.

Driveway Cost Calculator NZ 2026

How much does a concrete driveway cost in NZ?

Plain concrete is often around $100 to $150 a square metre supplied and laid, with exposed aggregate and decorative finishes higher at roughly $150 to $250. Preparation, drainage and a kerb crossing can add significantly, so always budget a contingency.

Is asphalt cheaper than concrete?

For larger driveways asphalt is often a little cheaper per square metre than plain concrete and is quicker to lay, but concrete generally lasts longer and offers more finishes. This calculator lets you compare the two by switching the surface.

What is not included in the surface rate?

The surface rate covers the finished material laid, but site works such as excavation, a compacted base course, formwork, drainage and a vehicle crossing to the road are extra. Enter these under prep and extras, and keep a contingency for surprises.

Gravel Driveway Cost Calculator NZ 2026

How deep should a gravel driveway be?

A typical gravel driveway is around 75 to 150mm of compacted material over a firm base, with deeper sections where the ground is soft or vehicles are heavy. Lay it in layers and compact each one, and order a little extra because gravel settles as it compacts.

How much gravel do I need for a driveway?

Multiply the area by the depth to get cubic metres. A 40 square metre driveway at 100mm needs about 4 cubic metres. This calculator does the maths and adds the cost so you can order the right amount from your quarry.

Is a gravel driveway cheaper than concrete?

Yes, considerably. A gravel driveway can cost a fraction of a sealed concrete or asphalt drive, though it needs occasional topping up and good drainage. Compare the two using this calculator and the sealed driveway cost calculator.

Driving Lessons Cost Calculator NZ

How much does it cost to get a full licence in New Zealand?

It depends mostly on how many paid lessons you take. The licence and test fees across learner, restricted and full are a set part; the bulk of the cost is usually professional lessons, which vary by how many you need.

What stages are there to a full licence?

In New Zealand you progress through learner, restricted and full, each with a theory or practical test and a licence fee. This calculator lets you budget lessons and the fees at each stage to plan the whole journey.

How can I reduce the cost of getting licensed?

Practising with a supervisor between paid lessons reduces how many lessons you need, which is the largest variable cost. A defensive driving course can also shorten the time on a restricted licence, with its own fee.

Dunk Calculator

How high do I need to jump to dunk?

Take the rim height (305 cm on a standard hoop), add the clearance you need above the rim to control the ball (usually about 15 cm), and subtract your standing reach. Someone with a 238 cm standing reach needs 305 + 15 - 238 = 82 cm of vertical jump to dunk, but only 67 cm to touch the rim.

What is standing reach and how do I measure it?

Standing reach is the height your fingertips reach when you stand flat-footed and stretch one arm straight overhead. Stand side-on to a wall, keep both heels on the floor, reach up with the arm closest to the wall and mark the highest point you can touch. If you cannot measure it, standing reach is typically about 1.33 times your height, so a 180 cm person reaches roughly 240 cm.

What vertical jump is realistic?

Most untrained adults jump around 40 to 50 cm from a standing start. Trained athletes commonly reach 60 to 90 cm, and elite jumpers exceed 100 cm. A running two-foot or one-foot jump usually adds 10 to 20 cm over a standing jump, which is why most people attempt dunks off a run-up.

eDPI Calculator

What is eDPI?

eDPI (effective DPI) is your mouse DPI multiplied by your in-game sensitivity. It exists because neither number means anything on its own: 800 DPI at 0.35 sensitivity and 400 DPI at 0.7 sensitivity both give an eDPI of 280 and feel identical in the same game. Comparing eDPI is the standard way players compare true sensitivity regardless of mouse settings.

What is cm per 360?

It is the distance you must move your mouse across the pad for your character to turn a full circle in game. Unlike eDPI, it is comparable across different games and engines, because it measures physical hand movement. Lower numbers mean a faster sensitivity. This calculator uses the Source-engine yaw of 0.022 degrees per count, so the figure applies to CS2 and Valorant-style games; other engines use different yaw values.

What eDPI do pros use?

In Counter-Strike most professionals sit between roughly 600 and 1200 eDPI, with many clustered around 800 to 900, which works out to about 40 to 80 cm per 360. Valorant sensitivities scale differently, so the same players run much lower numbers there. Low sensitivity favours precise aim with large arm movements; pick a value you can hold for whole matches on your mousepad.

Effluent Storage Calculator NZ

What goes into an effluent pond besides effluent?

Wash water and rain, and on many sheds the rain is the larger of the two. Every square metre of uncovered yard and every square metre of roof that drains into the system collects rainfall, so a wet month can put more into the pond than the cows do. That is why roofing the yard or diverting clean roof water is often the cheapest way to reduce the storage a shed needs, and why a pond sized on cow numbers alone comes up short.

How many days of effluent storage do I need?

Enough to get through the longest stretch when the soil is too wet to irrigate onto, which depends on your soils, your climate and your regional rules. Deferred irrigation means holding effluent until the ground can take it without ponding or run-off, and the number of days that requires differs enormously between a free draining Canterbury soil and a heavy Waikato one. Your regional council sets the requirement, so check your plan rather than a national figure.

How much wash water does a dairy shed use?

It varies widely with plant size, whether the yard is washed with a hose or a flood wash, and how the system is set up, so no default is supplied here. Measuring it is straightforward: read the meter on the wash system over a few days and divide by the milkings. A figure taken from your own shed is worth far more than any average, because wash water is one of the largest and most controllable inputs to the pond.

Egg Incubation Calculator NZ

How long do eggs take to hatch?

Chicken eggs take 21 days. Turkey and most duck eggs take 28, geese about 33, coturnix quail 17 and bobwhite quail 23. Muscovy ducks are the notable exception at about 35 days, much longer than other ducks. Those are the standard figures from agricultural extension services, and actual timing varies a little with how the eggs were collected and stored and with incubation conditions.

What is lockdown in egg incubation?

Lockdown is the last stretch before hatching, when you stop turning the eggs, raise the humidity and leave the incubator closed so the chicks can position themselves and break out. It is conventionally three days before the hatch date, which is why it falls on day 18 for chickens, day 25 for turkeys and most ducks, and around day 32 for Muscovy. The three day rule holds across species because it tracks the hatch date rather than the calendar.

When should I candle eggs?

Around a week in is the usual first check, when fertile eggs show visible blood vessels and a developing embryo and clear eggs can be removed before they spoil. Many people candle again just before lockdown. Candling is quick but it does cool the eggs, so it is done briefly and not repeated more than it needs to be.

Egg Production Flock Size Calculator NZ

How many hens do I need for a dozen eggs a day?

It depends on the lay rate, which is the share of hens laying on any given day. At a lay rate of 80 percent you need 15 hens for 12 eggs a day, and at 60 percent you need 20. Lay rate is not a constant: it falls with age, drops sharply through a moult, and responds to day length, so a flock sized on a peak figure will come up short for part of the year.

Why does egg production drop in winter?

Mostly day length, which is what triggers laying, and moult, which is when a hen replaces her feathers and stops laying for several weeks. Both land in the same part of the year, so the seasonal dip is deeper than either alone would make it. Sizing a flock on the annual average rather than the peak, or accepting a shortfall for part of the year, are the two honest options.

What does it cost to produce a dozen eggs?

Feed is the largest cost and bird replacement is the one most often forgotten. A hen eats whether she is laying or not, so a low lay rate raises the feed cost of every egg produced, and the pullet has to be bought or reared before she lays anything. Counting both gives a cost per dozen that can be compared with a supermarket price, which is usually the comparison people actually want.

Fencing Calculator NZ

How many fence posts do I need?

Divide the fence length by the post spacing and add one for the end post. Posts are commonly spaced at 2.4 metres for paling fences. The calculator works out the posts, rails, and palings from the length and spacings you enter.

How many rails does a fence need?

Most paling fences have two or three rails running horizontally between the posts. Taller fences use three. Set the number of rails and the calculator multiplies it by the fence length for the total lineal metres of rail.

How many palings per metre?

Divide 1,000 by the paling width plus the gap in millimetres to get palings per metre. For 100 mm palings butted together that is about 10 per metre, and fewer if you leave a gap. The calculator uses your paling width and gap.

Freight Calculator NZ

What is volumetric weight?

Volumetric or dimensional weight reflects how much space a parcel takes up rather than how heavy it is. Carriers charge on whichever is greater, the actual weight or the volumetric weight, because a light but bulky box still fills the truck or plane. A common divisor is 5,000 for air freight.

How do I calculate chargeable weight?

Multiply the length, width, and height in centimetres, then divide by the carrier's divisor, usually 5,000 for air. Compare that volumetric weight with the actual weight and use the larger of the two. That figure is the chargeable weight the freight cost is based on.

Which divisor should I use?

Air freight and couriers commonly use 5,000, road freight often uses 4,000, and sea freight is usually charged by cubic metre instead. Check your carrier's terms, then enter the right divisor here. The default of 5,000 suits most courier parcels.

Funeral Cost Calculator NZ

How much does a funeral cost in New Zealand?

Funerals vary widely depending on the choices made, from a simple cremation to a full service with burial. Adding up the components gives a realistic total. This calculator lets you build that estimate from your own figures.

What makes up a funeral cost?

The main parts are the funeral director services, the casket, the cremation or burial and plot, and the gathering or catering, plus extras like flowers, notices and a celebrant.

Is there help with funeral costs?

There may be assistance available in some circumstances, such as a funeral grant, and prepaid funeral plans exist. It is worth discussing options with family and a funeral director.

GPA Calculator NZ 2026

What is the GPA Calculator NZ 2026?

Work out your GPA for any New Zealand university on the nine point scale, where A+ is 9 and not 4.0. Credit weighted across Auckland, Victoria, Canterbury, Otago, Massey, AUT, Lincoln and Waikato. Enter grades and credits.

Is the GPA Calculator NZ 2026 free to use?

Yes. The GPA Calculator NZ 2026 is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the GPA Calculator NZ 2026 made for New Zealand?

Yes. It supports the grade point scales used by New Zealand universities, including Auckland, Victoria, Canterbury, Otago, Massey, AUT, Lincoln and Waikato. You can adjust the grade values to match your institution. Results are indicative estimates only.

Grade Calculator NZ

How is a weighted grade calculated?

Multiply each assessment mark by its weight, add those together, and divide by the total weight entered so far. For example, 78% at 20% weight, 65% at 25% and 82% at 15% gives (78x20 + 65x25 + 82x15) / 60, which is a current grade of about 73.6%.

How do I work out what I need on the final exam?

Take your target grade times 100, subtract the weighted points you have already earned, and divide by the weight still remaining. If you are sitting on 73.6% with 60% of the course marked and want 75% overall, you need about 77.1% on the remaining 40%.

What percentage is an A in New Zealand?

Grade boundaries vary by institution. At most NZ universities an A- starts around 80% and an A+ around 90%, while a C- pass starts around 50%, but check your own course outline because the cut points differ between universities and even between courses.

Grain Moisture Shrink Calculator NZ

How do you calculate grain shrink?

Work from the dry matter, which does not change when grain is dried. Multiply the wet weight by one minus the wet moisture to get the dry matter, then divide that by one minus the target moisture to get the weight at the target. The difference is the water removed. Grain at 18 percent moisture dried to 14 percent loses about 4.7 percent of its weight, which is more than the four percentage point difference suggests.

Why is shrink more than the difference in moisture percentages?

Because the percentages are shares of two different totals. Removing four percentage points of moisture is not removing four percent of the weight: the water leaves but the dry matter stays, so the remaining moisture becomes a larger share of a smaller load. Going from 18 to 14 percent is a 4.65 percent weight loss, and the gap between the two figures widens as the starting moisture rises.

Why does a wet load pay less than its weighbridge weight?

Because it is being paid on the weight it would be at trade moisture, not on the water it arrived with. A buyer taking grain at a standard moisture converts the delivered weight back to that standard, which is exactly the shrink calculation. Drying charges then usually come off on top of that, so a wet load is discounted twice, once in weight and once in the drying.

Gym Cost Calculator NZ

What is my real cost per gym visit?

Divide what you pay over a year by the number of times you actually go. People who go often get great value; those who go rarely can be paying a high amount per visit, sometimes more than a casual entry would cost.

Is a gym membership or home setup cheaper?

A home setup has an upfront cost but no ongoing fee, so over a few years it can be cheaper than a membership if you use it. A gym offers more equipment and classes; the right choice depends on how you train and how often.

How do I know if my membership is worth it?

Look at the cost per visit. If it is low, the membership is good value; if it is high because you rarely go, you might save by paying casually, training at home, or committing to going more often.

Hay Bale Weight Calculator NZ

How much does a round bale of hay weigh?

It depends on the size and how tightly it was rolled, which is why a single figure is misleading. Weight is volume multiplied by density, and a bale of given dimensions can vary considerably between balers and between crops. Baleage is much heavier than hay of the same size because it carries far more water, commonly around 45 percent dry matter against 85 percent for hay, so two identical looking bales can differ by hundreds of kilograms.

Why does the volume of a round bale go up so fast with diameter?

Because volume depends on the radius squared. Going from a 1.2 metre bale to a 1.5 metre bale of the same width is a 25 percent increase in diameter but a 56 percent increase in volume, and therefore in weight and in feed. That is why comparing prices between bale sizes without converting to weight is one of the easiest ways to overpay for feed.

How do you compare hay and baleage prices fairly?

Convert both to cost per kilogram of dry matter. A bale price on its own compares neither weight nor water content, and baleage carries a great deal more water than hay. Dividing the price by the kilograms of dry matter in the bale strips both out and leaves the only number worth comparing, which is what you are paying for actual feed.

Healthy Homes Compliance Cost Calculator NZ 2026

What are the Healthy Homes Standards?

They are New Zealand's compulsory minimum standards for rental properties covering heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture ingress and drainage, and draught stopping. Landlords must ensure rentals comply within the required timeframes, and there are penalties for non-compliance.

What is the most expensive standard to meet?

Usually the heating standard, which requires a fixed heating appliance such as a heat pump sized to the main living room, often $2,000 to $4,000 installed. A full insulation upgrade can also be significant. Draught stopping and fans are typically cheaper.

How accurate is this estimate?

It is a planning estimate based on the figures you enter. Actual costs depend on the property's current state, its size, region and installer, and each standard has specific technical requirements. Confirm exactly what is needed with a qualified Healthy Homes assessor or installer.

Height Calculator

How do I convert cm to feet and inches?

Divide the height in centimetres by 2.54 to get inches, then divide by 12 to get feet with inches left over. For example, 175 cm is 68.9 inches, which is 5 feet 8.9 inches. The converter does this for you instantly as you type.

How accurate is the child height predictor?

The mid parental method gives a useful estimate, typically within about 9 cm of the eventual adult height. It adds the parents' heights, adjusts for the child's sex, and divides by two. Genetics, nutrition, and health all play a part, so treat the result as a guide, not a certainty.

What is the mid parental formula?

For a boy, add the mother's and father's heights in cm, add 13, then divide by 2. For a girl, add the heights, subtract 13, then divide by 2. The 13 cm reflects the average height difference between adult men and women.

Herd Replacement Rate Calculator NZ

How is replacement rate calculated?

Divide the number of replacements entering the herd or flock by the total number in it, and express the result as a percentage. A herd of 400 taking in 90 replacements has a replacement rate of 22.5 percent. Some people calculate it instead from the number leaving, which gives a different answer whenever the herd is growing or shrinking, so it is worth being explicit about which one you mean when comparing with anyone else.

What does replacement rate tell you about herd life?

If you replace a fixed share of the herd every year, the average animal stays for the reciprocal of that share. A 25 percent replacement rate implies an average working life of four years, and 20 percent implies five. It is an average across a steady state rather than a prediction about any individual, and it only holds while the rate is stable, but it is a useful sense check: a rate that implies a two year working life is telling you something is going wrong before the animals are old.

How many replacements do I need to hold herd numbers?

Exactly as many as are leaving, counting culls, deaths and any sales out of the herd. If more are coming in than going out the herd grows, and if fewer, it shrinks. Rearing replacements takes one to two years depending on the species and the system, so the decision about next season's numbers is usually made well before the gap it is meant to fill becomes visible.

Image Resize Calculator

What is aspect ratio?

Aspect ratio is the proportion between an image width and its height, such as 16 to 9. Keeping that ratio fixed while resizing means the picture scales evenly and does not look stretched. This calculator preserves it automatically.

Should I enter a target width or a target height?

Enter whichever side you need to fix. If you leave the target height blank, the tool scales from the target width, and if you leave the target width blank it scales from the target height. The other side is filled in to keep the ratio.

Will enlarging an image reduce quality?

Usually yes. Making an image larger than its original size stretches the existing pixels and cannot add real detail, so it often looks soft or blocky. Scaling down is safe, while scaling up is best avoided where sharpness matters.

Inequality Calculator

What is the Inequality Calculator?

Solve linear and quadratic inequalities step by step. Enter your inequality expression and get the solution set with a number line representation. Free online inequality solver.

Is the Inequality Calculator free to use?

Yes. The Inequality Calculator is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the Inequality Calculator made for New Zealand?

Yes. It is hosted on Calculate.co.nz for New Zealand students. The calculations use standard algebra that works the same way anywhere, so no country-specific rules or rates are involved.

IP Subnet Calculator (CIDR)

What does the CIDR prefix number mean?

The CIDR prefix (also called the prefix length or subnet mask length) is the number after the slash in a notation like 192.168.1.0/24. It tells you how many of the 32 bits in the IP address are the network portion. A /24 means 24 bits are fixed for the network, leaving 8 bits for hosts (2^8 = 256 addresses, 254 usable). A /16 leaves 16 bits for hosts (65,536 addresses, 65,534 usable). The larger the prefix number, the smaller the subnet.

Why are there two fewer usable hosts than total addresses?

Every subnet reserves two addresses that cannot be assigned to hosts. The first address (all host bits set to 0) is the network address, used to identify the subnet itself. The last address (all host bits set to 1) is the broadcast address, used to send packets to all hosts on the subnet simultaneously. This is why a /24 subnet with 256 total addresses has only 254 usable host addresses. The exception is /31 subnets (used for point-to-point links per RFC 3021, with 2 usable addresses) and /32 host routes.

What is a wildcard mask and when is it used?

A wildcard mask is the bitwise inverse of the subnet mask. Where the subnet mask has 1 bits (fixed network bits), the wildcard mask has 0 bits, and vice versa. Wildcard masks are used in Cisco ACLs (access control lists) and OSPF network statements to specify which bits must match and which can vary. For example, a /24 subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 has a wildcard mask of 0.0.0.255, meaning the last octet can be any value.

IV Drip Rate Calculator

How do you calculate IV drip rate?

Multiply the volume in millilitres by the drop factor in drops per millilitre, then divide by the total time in minutes. The result is the drip rate in drops per minute. The flow rate in millilitres per hour is the volume divided by the time in hours.

What is the drop factor?

The drop factor is how many drops make up one millilitre for a particular giving set, printed on its packaging. Common values are 10, 15 or 20 drops per millilitre for standard sets and 60 for a micro-drip set used for small or precise volumes.

Is this calculator a substitute for clinical judgement?

No. It is an educational and quick-check tool. Always follow the prescription, your training, the pump or giving-set instructions and local protocols, and have infusion rates checked according to your clinical setting.

JWT Expiry Checker NZ

How do I know if a JWT is expired?

Paste the token here and the tool reads its expiry claim, converts it to a readable date, and compares it with your device's current time. It tells you whether the token is expired or still valid and how long until it expires or how long ago it did.

Does this verify the token?

No. It decodes and reads the timing claims but does not verify the cryptographic signature, which requires the server's secret or public key. So a token shown as valid is unexpired, but not confirmed as authentic. Use it for checking expiry, not authentication.

What if the token has no expiry?

If there is no exp claim, the token does not expire by time and the tool indicates this. Such tokens remain valid until revoked by other means, so their lifetime is controlled by the server rather than a built-in expiry timestamp.

Kill Sheet Calculator NZ

What is a kill sheet?

It is the statement a meat processor sends after a consignment is killed, showing how many head were processed, what each carcass weighed, the grade each fell into, the schedule price applied and every deduction taken off before the payment lands. It is the document that tells you what the stock were actually worth, as opposed to what the schedule said they would be worth, and the two are rarely the same number.

Why is my payout per kilogram lower than the schedule price?

Because the schedule price is applied to carcass weight before anything is taken off, and the deductions come afterwards. Levies, processing charges, cartage and inspection are charged per head, so their effect per kilogram depends on carcass weight: the same deduction hurts a light lamb more than a heavy one. Grade adjustments move the price per kilogram directly. Working back from the net payment to a realised price per kilogram is the only way to compare consignments fairly.

How is carcass value calculated in New Zealand?

Carcass weight is multiplied by the schedule price for the grade the carcass fell into, adjusted by any premium or discount that applies to that grade or contract. That gives the gross value per head. Deductions per head are then subtracted and any credit, such as a pelt or skin, is added, which gives the net per head. Multiply by the number of head for the consignment total.

Knapsack Spray Mix Calculator NZ

How much chemical goes in a 15 litre knapsack sprayer?

It depends on which of the two rate types your label gives. If the rate is per hectare, you first need to know how much area one tank covers, which is the tank volume divided by your water rate, and the product for that tank is the hectare rate multiplied by that area. If the rate is a concentration, such as millilitres per 100 litres of water, the product for the tank is simply that concentration scaled to the tank volume. Reading a per hectare rate as though it were a concentration is the most common spraying error, and it can be out by a large factor.

What water rate should I use in a knapsack sprayer?

Use the rate the label specifies, and confirm it by calibrating rather than assuming. Fill the knapsack with plain water, spray a measured area at your normal walking pace and pressure, then measure what you used. Litres used divided by the area sprayed, scaled to a hectare, is your actual water rate. Nozzle wear, pressure and walking speed all move it, so a figure copied from a neighbour or from last season is usually wrong.

Why does calibrating a knapsack sprayer matter?

Because every per hectare rate on a label depends on knowing how much area you actually cover with a tank, and that number comes from your water rate. If you believe you are applying 200 litres a hectare and you are really applying 300, then every tank is covering a third less ground than you think and the chemical is going on at the wrong concentration. Calibration takes about ten minutes with plain water and is what turns a label rate into the right amount in the tank.

Lambing Percentage Calculator NZ

How is lambing percentage calculated in New Zealand?

Lambs divided by ewes, as a percentage, but there is no single agreed version of either half. The lambs can be those docked or those weaned, and the ewes can be those put to the ram, those wintered or those that actually lambed. Each pairing is legitimate and they give materially different answers from exactly the same season, which is why two farms quoting lambing percentages are often not comparing the same thing at all.

Which lambing percentage should I use?

Lambs docked over ewes to the ram is the most demanding and the most commonly used for benchmarking, because it counts everything that went wrong from mating onwards, including dry ewes and ewe deaths. Lambs weaned over ewes to the ram is stricter again and closer to what you actually have to sell. Whichever you quote, name the denominator alongside it, because the number on its own does not identify itself.

What is lamb survival to weaning?

It is the share of lambs alive at docking that are still there at weaning, which isolates losses in that window from everything that happened earlier. It is worth tracking separately because it responds to different things than scanning or lambing losses do, and because a good docking percentage followed by poor survival points somewhere quite specific rather than at the season in general.

Landscaping Cost Calculator NZ 2026

How much does landscaping cost per square metre in NZ?

It ranges widely: a basic lawn-and-plants package might be around $40 a square metre, a standard mix of soft and modest hard landscaping around $80, and a premium design-led makeover $150 or more. Hard landscaping such as paving and walls is usually priced separately.

What is the difference between soft and hard landscaping?

Soft landscaping is the planting side: lawn, plants, soil, mulch and irrigation. Hard landscaping is the built side: paths, paving, decks, retaining walls, fences and structures. Hard landscaping is usually the bigger cost, which is why this calculator separates it out.

Can I stage a landscaping project?

Yes. Many people split landscaping over a couple of seasons, doing the structural and access work first, then planting and finishing later. Use this calculator to budget each stage and the whole project, and keep a contingency for the surprises that earthworks often reveal.

Layby Payment Calculator NZ

How does layby work?

With layby you pay a deposit, the retailer holds the item, and you pay it off in instalments, taking it home once it is fully paid. Unlike Buy Now Pay Later, you do not get the goods until the end, but there is no interest or debt.

How are my layby payments worked out?

The balance is the price minus your deposit, and that balance is split evenly across your number of payments. The payment amount is the balance divided by the number of payments, made at whatever frequency you and the retailer agree.

Is layby better than Buy Now Pay Later?

Layby avoids debt and interest entirely, since you pay before you take the goods, but you wait for the item and may face a cancellation fee. It suits saving toward a purchase without the risk of fees that come with credit.

Lean Body Mass Calculator NZ

What is lean body mass?

Lean body mass is your total weight minus the weight of your body fat. It includes muscle, bone, organs, water and everything that is not fat. It is a useful figure for setting protein targets, dosing some medicines and tracking changes in body composition rather than just the number on the scales.

How is lean body mass calculated?

This calculator uses the Boer formula, which estimates lean body mass from your weight and height with a different equation for men and women. It is an estimate based on population averages, not a direct measurement, so it works best as a guide rather than an exact figure.

What is a good lean body mass?

There is no single ideal, because it depends on your height, frame and goals. What matters more is the trend over time. Gaining lean mass while holding or reducing fat mass usually reflects positive changes from training and nutrition. Speak to a health professional for advice tailored to you.

Lifestyle Block Stocking Calculator NZ

How many sheep can I run on an acre in New Zealand?

On average pasture in a reliable rainfall district, roughly 4 to 6 stock units a hectare is a comfortable year-round rate for a block with no supplementary feeding, which is about 2 to 3 ewes an acre. That drops sharply on dry, steep or poor country and rises on good flats. The honest answer is that it depends on how much grass your block grows, which varies more between neighbours than most people expect.

What is overstocking and why does it matter on a small block?

Overstocking means carrying more animals than your pasture grows feed for, and small blocks get caught more often than farms because there is no spare paddock to fall back on. The result is bare ground by late summer, animals in poor condition, and a winter feed bill nobody budgeted for. Sizing to the winter rather than to the spring flush is the single most useful thing a new block owner can do.

Do I need to feed out on a lifestyle block?

Almost always, for some of the year. Pasture growth in most of New Zealand falls well below stock demand from about May to August, so even a lightly stocked block usually needs hay or baleage through winter. This calculator shows that gap in kilograms of dry matter so you can decide whether to buy feed, reduce numbers, or graze stock off.

Liveweight from Girth Calculator NZ

How do you estimate an animal's weight with a tape measure?

Measure the heart girth, which is the circumference of the body just behind the front legs, and the body length from the point of the shoulder to the pin bone. Girth squared multiplied by length, divided by a constant, gives an estimated liveweight. The published version of the formula uses inches and pounds, so this page derives the metric divisor from the exact inch and pound definitions rather than approximating it, and works entirely in centimetres and kilograms.

How accurate is a girth weight estimate?

It is an estimate, not a weighing. The formula assumes a body shape, so it reads high on a very deep or fat animal and low on a lean, leggy one, and results differ between breeds and between a full and an empty gut. It is useful for tracking change over time, for checking whether stock are near a target and for dosing where no scales are available, but a weigh crate is better wherever the number carries money or a medicine dose.

What dressing out percentage should I use?

Use your own from recent kill sheets, because it varies by class, breed, condition and processor. This page defaults to 44 percent, which is the Beef and Lamb New Zealand standard KPI figure for lamb, and breed studies span roughly 40.7 to 49.8 percent. No cattle figure is supplied here, because none was found on a New Zealand primary source and a borrowed overseas number would be worse than an honest blank.

MAC Address Format Converter NZ

What is a MAC address?

A MAC address is the unique 48-bit hardware identifier of a network interface, written as twelve hexadecimal digits. It identifies a device on a local network. Different systems write it with colons, hyphens, Cisco dots, or no separators, which this tool converts between.

What are the different MAC address formats?

The common ones are colon-separated pairs (00:1B:44:11:3A:B7), hyphen-separated pairs (00-1B-44-11-3A-B7), Cisco dotted groups of four (001b.4411.3ab7), and bare with no separators (001B44113AB7), in upper or lower case. This converter produces all of them from any input.

Why does the format matter?

Different systems and vendors expect different notations, so an address copied from one place may not be accepted in another without reformatting. Converting to the exact format a system expects avoids errors, and normalising a list of addresses makes them consistent.

Mating Ratio Calculator NZ

What ram to ewe ratio should I use?

Beef and Lamb New Zealand describes one ram to 100 to 150 ewes as a general guideline for fit mixed-age ewes on flat to rolling country, reduced to about one to 100 for ewe hoggets or when using ram hoggets, and reduced again on steep country where the work is harder. It is a guideline rather than a standard, because a young ram covers fewer ewes than a mature one and terrain and paddock size both matter.

How many cows can one bull cover?

It depends heavily on the bull's age. Commonly quoted figures are about 10 to 12 females for a 12 to 15 month old bull, 12 to 18 for a 15 to 18 month old, and 18 to 25 for an 18 to 24 month old, with most recommendations keeping mature bulls to no more than 25 cows. Individual bulls vary widely in their ability to cover cows, so these are starting points to adjust from rather than a capacity to rely on.

Why carry spare sires?

Because a sire that goes lame, gets injured fighting or turns out to be infertile takes his whole share of the mob with him, and you often do not find out until scanning. Carrying a spare or rotating sires through the mating period protects against that. The cost of one extra ram set against a group of ewes that come up empty is usually a straightforward comparison, which is what the cost per female mated figure here is for.

Milk Solids kgMS Calculator NZ

What is kgMS?

Kilograms of milk solids, which in New Zealand means the fat plus the protein in the milk. It is the unit farmgate milk price is quoted and paid in, so a payout of nine dollars something is nine dollars something for every kilogram of fat and protein supplied, not for every litre. Water and lactose make up most of the volume and are not what you are paid for, which is why two farms shipping the same litres can be paid quite differently.

How do you convert litres of milk to kgMS?

Add the fat and protein percentages together and apply that to the volume. Since herd testing reports composition as grams per 100 millilitres, a milk testing 4.8 percent fat and 3.9 percent protein carries 8.7 grams of solids in every 100 millilitres, or 87 grams a litre. Multiply the litres by that and divide by a thousand for kilograms.

Why does composition matter more than volume?

Because payment follows solids, not litres. A herd testing at 9.5 percent combined solids produces almost ten percent more income from the same tanker load than one testing at 8.7 percent. Composition varies with breed, with stage of lactation and with feeding, and it is the reason Jersey herds can be paid well while shipping noticeably less volume than a Friesian herd of the same size.

Minute Calculator

How many minutes are in a day?

1,440. That is 24 hours multiplied by 60 minutes. A week is seven times that, which is 10,080 minutes.

How do I convert minutes to hours?

Divide by 60. The whole number is the hours and the remainder is the minutes, so 90 minutes is 1 hour 30 minutes. For a decimal figure, divide by 60 without splitting: 90 minutes is 1.5 hours.

Why is 100 minutes not 1.40 hours?

Because minutes are base sixty and decimals are base ten. One hundred minutes is 1 hour 40 minutes, but as a decimal it is 100 divided by 60, which is 1.67 hours. Writing it as 1.40 is the most common error in timesheet arithmetic.

mmol/L to mg/dL Calculator

How do you convert mmol/L to mg/dL for blood glucose?

To convert blood glucose from mmol/L to mg/dL, multiply the mmol/L value by 18.0182. This factor comes from the molecular weight of glucose (180.182 g/mol) divided by 10. For example, a fasting blood glucose of 5.5 mmol/L equals 5.5 x 18.0182 = 99.1 mg/dL. To convert back, divide the mg/dL value by 18.0182.

Why is the conversion factor different for cholesterol and glucose?

The conversion factor between mmol/L and mg/dL depends on the molecular weight of the substance being measured. Glucose has a molecular weight of 180.182 g/mol, giving a factor of 18.0182. Cholesterol (MW 386.65 g/mol) uses a factor of 38.665, and triglycerides (MW 885.43 g/mol) use 88.543. The formula is: mg/dL = mmol/L x (molecular weight / 10).

Which countries use mmol/L and which use mg/dL for blood glucose?

New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and most of Europe report blood glucose in mmol/L. The United States, Japan, and several other countries use mg/dL. When reading international diabetes resources, glucose monitors, or research papers, you may need to convert between these units. A fasting glucose target of under 6.0 mmol/L in NZ is equivalent to under 108 mg/dL.

Morse Code Translator NZ

How does Morse code work?

Each letter, number and punctuation mark is represented by a unique sequence of short and long signals, dots and dashes. Letters are separated by a short gap and words by a longer one. This lets messages be sent by any on-off signal, such as sound, light or electric pulses.

How is SOS written in Morse code?

SOS is three dots, three dashes, three dots: ... --- ... It was chosen as the international distress signal because the pattern is simple, distinctive and easy to send and recognise, not because the letters stand for any particular words.

How are letters and words separated?

By convention, a single space separates the code for individual letters, and a slash separates words. Keeping these separators consistent makes decoding unambiguous, which is why this translator uses spaces between letters and a slash between words.

Moving Cities Cost Calculator NZ

How much does it cost to move cities in New Zealand?

A move adds up across movers, a rental bond and rent in advance, travel, time off work and setting up the new place. Together it often runs to several thousand dollars, more for a long-distance move with a large household.

What costs are easy to forget when moving?

The bond and rent in advance on a new rental, connection fees for power and internet, cleaning the old place, and replacing things that do not travel well. Building these in upfront avoids a surprise just when money is tight.

How can I reduce moving costs?

Decluttering before you move lowers the mover's price, booking ahead and avoiding peak times helps, and doing some of the packing yourself saves on labour. The bond and rent in advance are largely fixed, so plan for them.

Nappy Cost Calculator NZ

How much do nappies cost a year?

A newborn might use 8 to 10 nappies a day, dropping as they grow. At a few dozen cents each, disposables often cost $800 to $1,500 a year. Over the years until toilet training, that adds up to a significant sum.

Are cloth nappies cheaper?

Cloth nappies have a higher upfront cost for the set, plus washing costs, but are reused for years and across siblings, so they usually work out cheaper overall than disposables. This calculator compares the two.

What about washing costs for cloth?

Cloth nappies add power, water and detergent for washing, which this calculator includes as a weekly cost. Even with washing, cloth is typically cheaper than disposables over the full nappy years.

NCEA Credits Calculator NZ

How many credits do I need to pass NCEA?

Each NCEA level needs 80 credits to be awarded. For Level 1 those can be from any standards; Levels 2 and 3 also count credits from the level below within the 80. Literacy and numeracy or co-requisite requirements apply separately.

How do I get an endorsement?

A certificate endorsement needs 50 credits at a single grade or higher: 50 at Excellence for an Excellence endorsement, or 50 at Merit or above for a Merit endorsement. It recognises consistently strong achievement across the year.

What is the difference between Achieved, Merit and Excellence?

They are the grades for each standard. All three earn the credit toward the 80 needed to pass, but Merit and Excellence credits count toward endorsements, which is why the breakdown matters as well as the total.

NCEA Grade Calculator NZ

What is the NCEA Grade Calculator NZ?

Calculate your NCEA result for Level 1, 2 or 3. Enter achieved, merit, and excellence credits per subject to see total credits, qualification status, endorsements, and University Entrance eligibility. Free NZ NCEA calculator.

Is the NCEA Grade Calculator NZ free to use?

Yes. The NCEA Grade Calculator NZ is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the NCEA Grade Calculator NZ made for New Zealand?

Yes. NCEA is New Zealand's national secondary school qualification, and this calculator follows the NCEA credit and endorsement rules for Levels 1, 2 and 3, including University Entrance. Results are indicative estimates only.

NCEA to GPA Calculator

Does NCEA use a GPA?

No. NCEA is a standards-based system using Not Achieved, Achieved, Merit and Excellence, not an official GPA. This tool gives an indicative GPA by weighting Excellence as 4, Merit as 3 and Achieved as 2, which is a common way to turn NCEA results into a familiar 4-point scale.

What is the NZQA rank score?

The University Entrance rank score is the official figure universities use for selection into limited-entry programmes. It is your best 80 credits at Level 3 or above, weighted Excellence 4, Merit 3 and Achieved 2, giving a maximum score of 320.

How do I get a high rank score?

Because only your best 80 credits count, aim for Merit and Excellence in your strongest subjects rather than collecting extra Achieved credits. Eighty credits all at Excellence give the maximum 320; eighty credits all at Merit give 240.

Nether Portal Calculator

How do you convert Overworld coordinates to Nether coordinates?

Divide the X and Z coordinates by 8 and round down, and keep Y the same. An Overworld portal at X 1000, Z -1000 matches a Nether portal at X 125, Z -125. Going the other way, multiply the Nether X and Z by 8.

Why is the Nether ratio 8 to 1?

Minecraft compresses horizontal distance in the Nether so that one block travelled there equals eight blocks in the Overworld. The ratio only applies to X and Z; the Y coordinate is never scaled between dimensions.

When you enter a portal the game searches for an existing portal near the converted destination point: roughly 16 blocks each way in the Nether and 128 blocks each way in the Overworld in Java Edition. If another portal sits inside that search box it can steal the link, so build both portals at the exact converted coordinates.

Nitrogen Cap Compliance Calculator NZ

What is the 190 kg nitrogen cap?

A limit of 190 kilograms of synthetic nitrogen a hectare a year on pastoral land, set by the National Environmental Standards for Freshwater. It applies both as an average across the farm and to each individual hectare, so a farm can meet the average and still breach the cap on a block that was pushed harder than the rest. The nitrogen year runs from 1 July to 30 June.

What fertiliser counts towards the nitrogen cap?

Synthetic fertiliser containing more than 5 percent nitrogen by dry weight, which covers urea, DAP and sulphate of ammonia among others. Biological sources are excluded, including compost and untreated dairy effluent. What matters is the kilograms of nitrogen applied rather than the kilograms of product, so a tonne of urea is not a tonne of nitrogen and the conversion has to be done before anything is compared with the cap.

When is the nitrogen return due?

By 31 July each year, to your regional council, covering the nitrogen year that ended on 30 June. That leaves a month after the year closes to pull the records together. The reporting obligation is separate from the cap itself: a farm can be comfortably under 190 kilograms and still be in breach of its obligations by not reporting.

One Rep Max Calculator

How is one-rep max calculated?

From a set you have done, prediction formulas estimate the single-rep maximum. The Epley formula multiplies the weight by one plus reps over 30; Brzycki uses weight times 36 over 37 minus reps. This calculator shows both, plus training loads as percentages.

How accurate is a 1RM estimate?

It is most accurate when the set is genuinely hard and in the 1 to 10 rep range. Above about 10 reps, estimates tend to overstate the true max because endurance starts to matter more than strength. Use a heavy set of a few reps for the best estimate.

Why use training percentages?

Strength programmes prescribe loads as a percentage of your one-rep max, so knowing your max lets you pick the right working weight. Roughly, 90 percent suits triples, 80 percent sets of eight, and lighter percentages higher-rep or technique work.

Pace Calculator

How do I work out running pace?

Divide your total time by the distance. For 10 kilometres in 50 minutes, that is 5 minutes per kilometre. Pace is usually written as minutes and seconds per kilometre, so a time of 5.5 minutes per km is written 5:30 rather than 5.5.

What is a good pace per kilometre?

It depends entirely on distance, terrain and how long you have been running. As a rough guide, many recreational runners sit between 5:30 and 7:00 per kilometre for a steady run. Comparing your pace against your own earlier times is far more useful than comparing it against anyone else.

How accurate are the projected race times?

They use the Riegel formula, which is a well-established rule of thumb rather than a prediction. It assumes you have actually trained for the longer distance. Projecting a marathon from a 5 km time will usually be optimistic if your longest run has been 10 km.

Paddock Rotation Planner NZ

How do you work out a grazing round length?

Multiply the number of paddocks by the days spent in each. Twenty paddocks grazed for one day each is a twenty day round. The round length is what determines how long a paddock has to regrow before the stock come back to it, so it is really a decision about recovery time rather than about the stock, and it has to lengthen as growth slows through autumn and winter.

What break size does a mob need?

Enough area to supply the mob's daily dry matter demand at the cover you are grazing to. Divide the daily demand by the dry matter available per hectare, which is the pre grazing cover less the residual you intend to leave. Grazing to a lower residual makes a break go further and takes more out of the plant, which is the trade being made every time the fence is shifted.

Why does the round have to lengthen in autumn?

Because the round length has to match how long the pasture takes to recover, and recovery slows as growth slows. A twenty day round that works in spring will bring the stock back to a paddock long before it has regrown in April, so covers fall away and the whole farm drops behind. Lengthening the round is how a farm slows its demand to match what the pasture can supply.

Percentage Change Calculator NZ

What is the Percentage Calculator?

Free percentage calculator for any scenario. Calculate percentage increase, percentage decrease, percentage change between two values, what percentage one number is of another, or find the original value. Four calculators in one.

Is the Percentage Calculator free to use?

Yes. The Percentage Calculator is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the Percentage Calculator made for New Zealand?

Yes. It is hosted on Calculate.co.nz for a New Zealand audience. Percentage calculations work the same way everywhere, so no country-specific rules or rates are involved.

Percentage Difference Calculator

What is percentage difference?

Percentage difference measures how far apart two values are, relative to their average. It is the absolute difference between the two values, divided by their average, multiplied by 100. Because it uses the average as the base, it is symmetric: the order of the two values does not change the answer.

How is it different from percentage change?

Percentage change has a clear starting value and divides by that old value, so swapping the numbers changes the result. Percentage difference has no fixed starting point and divides by the average of the two values, so it is used when neither value is the reference.

When should I use percentage difference?

Use it when comparing two independent measurements where neither is the original, such as two quotes, two test results, or two prices for the same item. Use percentage change when one value clearly comes before the other, like an old price and a new price.

Percentage Increase Calculator

How do I calculate a percentage increase?

Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, then multiply by 100. For example, going from 50 to 60 is (60 minus 50) divided by 50, times 100, which is a 20% increase.

What is the difference between percentage increase and percentage change?

They use the same formula. Percentage increase describes a rise from old to new, while percentage change covers both rises and falls. If the new value is lower than the old value, the change is negative, which is a percentage decrease.

How do I increase a number by a percentage?

Multiply the number by 1 plus the percentage as a decimal. To increase 200 by 15%, multiply 200 by 1.15, which is 230.

Pergola & Carport Cost Calculator NZ 2026

How much does a pergola or carport cost in NZ?

As a guide, an open timber pergola is often a few hundred dollars a square metre supplied and installed, a roofed carport more, and a powered louvre roof the most. A concrete pad, lighting, guttering and consent add to the total, which this calculator brings together.

It depends on the size, height and location, and rules differ by council. Some small open structures are exempt, while larger or roofed structures usually need consent. Check with your local council, and include any consent cost under extras.

Does a louvre roof cost much more?

Yes. A powered opening or louvre roof system is typically the most expensive option by a clear margin because of the engineered structure and motor, but it gives year-round control of sun and rain. Compare it against a fixed roof or open pergola using this calculator.

Pet Ownership Cost Calculator NZ

How much does a pet cost over its life?

Far more than the purchase price. Food, vet visits, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, and insurance or unexpected bills add up over many years. This calculator estimates the annual and lifetime total.

Should I get pet insurance?

Pet insurance or a savings buffer helps with large unexpected vet bills, which can run into thousands. Whether insurance is worth it depends on the premium versus the risk, but planning for big bills is wise either way.

What is the biggest ongoing pet cost?

Food and routine vet care are steady costs, but a single emergency vet bill can dwarf a year of routine costs, which is why a buffer or insurance matters.

Pet Food Cost Calculator NZ

How much does feeding a pet cost?

Multiply the grams of food you feed each day by the price per kilogram to get the daily cost, then scale up for the month and year. Food is a big part of the ongoing cost of a pet, alongside vet care and insurance.

How do I work out the daily amount?

Use the feeding guide on the food for your pet's weight, or what you actually measure out each day. Wet and dry food differ in price per kilogram and feeding amount, so calculate each separately if you feed both.

Why budget for pet food?

Seeing the yearly figure helps you budget realistically and compare brands fairly on cost per day rather than pack price, since a cheaper bag fed in larger amounts can cost more over time than a pricier, more concentrated food.

Phone Plan Comparison Calculator NZ

How do I compare mobile plans?

Compare the total cost over a year, including the monthly plan and any device repayment, not just the monthly figure. A cheap plan with a pricey phone on top can cost more overall.

Is it cheaper to buy a phone outright?

Often yes, because buying outright and using a low-cost plan can beat a bundled plan with the device built in. Comparing the total cost reveals the difference.

What should a phone plan include?

Enough data and calling for your use without paying for far more than you need. Match the plan to your real usage to avoid overpaying.

Pig and Goat Feed Cost Calculator NZ

What does it cost to raise a pig?

Feed is nearly all of it on a small scale, and the figure that matters is the cost per kilogram of gain rather than the cost per day. Multiply the daily feed by the days and the feed price to get the feed bill, then divide by the weight the animal actually put on. Adding the cost of the weaner and dividing by the carcass weight gives the figure to compare against buying pork, which is usually the comparison being made.

Why divide by carcass weight rather than liveweight?

Because you eat the carcass, not the liveweight. Dividing the total cost by liveweight understates what the meat costs by whatever the dressing out percentage is, which for a pig is a large share and for a goat larger still. Comparing a cost per kilogram of liveweight against a shop price per kilogram of meat is comparing two different things, and it always flatters the home grown animal.

Does home raised meat work out cheaper?

Sometimes, and the honest answer depends on your feed price, your growth rate and whether you count the weaner and the processing. It comes out cheaper more often for pigs fed on cheap or waste feed than for anything bought a bag at a time. Working it out per kilogram of carcass is the only way to know, and the result is often not the reason people do it anyway.

Placeholder Image Calculator NZ

What is a placeholder image?

It is a plain dummy image, usually a coloured rectangle of specific dimensions, used to fill an image area while designing or prototyping before the real picture is ready. It lets you check the layout and spacing at the correct size.

How is the aspect ratio worked out?

The width and height are divided by their greatest common divisor to express the ratio in lowest terms. So 600 by 400 becomes 3 by 2, and 1920 by 1080 becomes 16 by 9. This shows the shape of the image independent of its actual size.

Can I use the placeholder URL in production?

It is intended for prototypes and mock-ups, pointing at a public placeholder service that returns a grey image of the requested size. For a live site you would replace it with your real images, but it is perfect for filling layouts during design and testing.

Post-Hole Concrete Calculator NZ 2026

How much concrete do I need per fence post?

A typical 300mm wide, 600mm deep hole holds about 0.036 cubic metres of concrete once the post is allowed for, which is roughly three to four 20kg bags. Bigger or deeper holes for gate and corner posts need more, so size each hole for its job.

How deep should a fence post hole be?

As a guide, bury at least a third of the post, so a 1.8 metre high fence post often sits in a hole around 600mm deep. Corner, gate and strainer posts carry more load and are usually set deeper and in wider holes.

Do I need to allow for the post in the hole?

Yes. The post occupies part of the hole, so the concrete only fills the space around it. This calculator subtracts the volume of the post so you do not over-buy, though a small waste allowance is still wise for spillage.

Power Plan Comparison Calculator NZ

How do I compare power plans in New Zealand?

Compare the daily fixed charge and the per-unit rate together against your actual usage. A plan with a low unit rate but a high daily charge can cost more overall, especially if you use less power.

What is a daily fixed charge?

It is a set amount you pay each day regardless of how much power you use, on top of the per-unit rate. Low-user plans have a lower daily charge, which can suit smaller households.

Why does my usage matter when comparing plans?

The cheapest plan depends on how much power you use. Heavy users benefit most from a low unit rate, while light users benefit more from a low daily charge. The calculator compares plans for your actual usage.

Private vs State School Calculator NZ

How much does private school cost in New Zealand?

Published 2026 tuition at leading private schools runs from about $19,500 a year in the junior years to more than $35,000 a year at senior secondary level, before uniforms, activities, travel and other extras. Fees usually step up as a child moves into the middle and senior school, and most schools also lift their fees each year.

What could the fee difference grow to if invested instead?

Choosing state schooling and investing the yearly difference is the main financial alternative. At the calculator defaults, the difference invested at 6 percent a year grows to more than $700,000 by the end of Year 13, which is why the comparison is worth seeing in full before deciding.

Is private school worth the cost?

That is a personal judgement about education, environment and values, not just money. The calculator gives the financial scale, including fee increases, extras and the investment alternative, so you can weigh it alongside everything else that matters in the decision.

Quarter Dates Calculator NZ

What are the calendar quarters?

The calendar year splits into four quarters of three months: Q1 January to March, Q2 April to June, Q3 July to September, and Q4 October to December. Each quarter has a fixed start and end date.

Is the New Zealand tax year the same as calendar quarters?

No. The standard New Zealand tax year runs 1 April to 31 March, so its quarters are offset from calendar quarters. This tool shows calendar quarters; if you report on the tax year, shift the periods by three months.

Why do I need quarter dates?

Quarters are used for GST returns, business reporting, provisional tax instalments and performance reviews, so knowing the exact start and end dates of the quarter a date falls in helps with deadlines and planning.

Race Time Predictor

How accurate is a race time predictor?

Riegel's formula is well respected and accurate when the two distances are not too far apart and you are trained for the longer one. Predicting a marathon from a 5 kilometre time is less reliable, because endurance and fuelling matter far more over 42 kilometres than raw speed.

What is Riegel's formula?

It predicts a race time as the known time times the ratio of distances raised to the power 1.06. The exponent above one captures the fact that you cannot hold the same pace as distance grows, so longer races are run at a slightly slower pace per kilometre.

How should I use the prediction?

Use it to set a realistic goal time and even pacing, then start the race a touch conservatively. A prediction assumes good conditions and specific training, so adjust for heat, hills, and whether you have done the long runs the distance demands.

Rainwater Tank Size Calculator NZ

How much rainwater can I collect from my roof?

About one litre per square metre of roof for each millimetre of rain, less a little for losses. So a large roof in a wet area can collect a lot. This calculator estimates your annual collection from your roof area and rainfall.

What size rainwater tank do I need?

Size it to bridge your dry spells: your daily water use times the number of days you might go without meaningful rain. The calculator suggests a capacity from your use and dry-spell length.

What is a runoff coefficient?

It is the share of rain that actually reaches the tank after losses from the roof, gutters and first flush, often around 0.8. The calculator applies it so the collection estimate is realistic.

Ratio Calculator

How do I simplify a ratio?

Divide both sides of the ratio by their greatest common factor. For example 12:18 both divide by 6 to give 2:3. The calculator finds the common factor and reduces the ratio for you.

How do I solve a proportion?

A proportion sets two ratios equal, like 2:3 equals 8 to what. Cross multiply and divide to find the missing value. Here, 3 times 8 divided by 2 is 12, so 2:3 equals 8:12. The calculator solves for the blank.

What is a ratio used for?

Ratios compare quantities, such as mixing fuel and oil, scaling a recipe, or splitting profit. Simplifying makes them easier to read, and solving a proportion scales them up or down while keeping them equivalent.

Ratio Splitter Calculator NZ 2026

How do I split an amount by a ratio?

Add the ratio parts to get the total units, divide the amount by that to get the value of one unit, then multiply each part by the unit value. This calculator does it instantly for any ratio and total, with shares that always add back to the original amount.

Can I use more than two parts?

Yes. Enter as many parts as you like separated by colons, such as 2:3:5 or 1:1:1:1. The calculator handles any number of shares and reports them in the order you enter them.

Does it only work for money?

No. A ratio split works for any quantity: litres of a mix, grams in a recipe, hours of work, or a budget. Enter the total in whatever unit you are using and the shares come out in the same unit.

Reading Time Calculator NZ

How long does it take to read a number of words?

Divide the word count by your reading speed in words per minute. The average adult reads silently at around 200 to 250 words a minute, so a 5,000 word document takes roughly 20 to 25 minutes.

What reading speed should I use?

Silent reading averages about 230 words a minute, but technical or dense material is slower, and reading aloud is slower still at around 130 to 150 words a minute, which matters for speeches and presentations.

Is reading speed the same for everyone?

No, it varies with the reader, the difficulty of the text, and whether you are skimming or reading closely. Use a speed that reflects how you will actually read, and treat the result as an estimate.

Regex Escape Tool NZ

What does escaping a string for regex mean?

It means adding backslashes before characters that have special meaning in a regular expression, so they are treated as literal characters instead. This lets a piece of text be matched exactly inside a pattern, rather than its special characters changing what is matched.

Which characters need escaping?

The regex metacharacters: the dot, asterisk, plus, question mark, caret, dollar sign, curly braces, square brackets, parentheses, pipe, backslash and forward slash. Each of these has a special function, so they must be escaped to match them literally.

Why escape user input in a regex?

Because unescaped special characters in input can change what a dynamically built pattern matches, causing bugs or even security issues. Escaping the input first ensures it is matched literally, which is the safe way to build patterns that contain text you do not control.

Regex Tester NZ

What are regex flags?

Flags change how the pattern is applied. The g flag makes it find every match instead of just the first, i makes it ignore upper and lower case, and m makes the start and end anchors work on each line. You can combine them, such as gi.

Why is my regex not matching?

Common causes are forgetting to escape special characters like the dot or brackets, missing the global flag when you expect multiple matches, or case sensitivity. Test against real examples and adjust one piece at a time; this tester shows the effect of each change instantly.

Does this work the same as in my code?

It uses the JavaScript regular expression engine, so patterns behave identically in browser and Node.js code. Other languages share most of the same syntax, though a few advanced features differ, so check the specifics if you are using Python, PHP or another language.

Retaining Wall Block Calculator NZ

How many blocks do I need for a retaining wall?

Work out the wall face area, length times height, and divide by the face area of one block, length times height of the block. Round up, and add a few percent for cuts and breakages. This gives the number of blocks for the visible face.

What block size should I use?

Common retaining blocks have a face of around 300 by 200 millimetres, but they vary widely by product, so use the actual dimensions of the block you are buying. The supplier's spec sheet gives the face size and coverage.

In New Zealand, retaining walls over a certain height, often 1.5 metres, or walls carrying extra load, usually need a building consent and engineering. Check with your council before you build. This tool only estimates block quantity.

Retaining Wall Calculator NZ

How many blocks do I need for a retaining wall?

Divide the wall length by the block length to get blocks per row, and the wall height by the block height for the number of rows. Multiply the two for the total. The calculator does this from the dimensions you enter.

In New Zealand a building consent is generally needed for retaining walls over 1.5 metres high, or lower walls that carry extra load such as a driveway. Always check with your local council before you start, as rules vary.

What else do I need besides blocks?

A retaining wall also needs a compacted base, drainage metal and pipe behind it, and often geogrid or posts for taller walls. This calculator estimates the blocks only, so factor in those extras and get engineering advice for higher walls.

Reverse Tip Calculator NZ 2026

How do I find the tip from a total?

Divide the total by one plus the tip rate to get the pre-tip amount, then subtract that from the total to get the tip. For a 15 percent tip, divide the total by 1.15. This calculator does it and also splits the total per person.

Why not just subtract the percentage?

Because the tip was a percentage of the original bill, not the total. Taking the percentage off the total overstates the deduction. Dividing by one plus the rate correctly reverses the calculation, the same logic used to remove GST from a GST-inclusive price.

Is tipping expected in New Zealand?

Not customarily. Service is included in prices and staff are paid at least the minimum wage, so tipping is optional and uncommon. It does appear on some bills, on travel, and on card-terminal prompts, which is where reversing a tipped total comes in handy.

Running Pace Calculator

What is the Running Pace Calculator?

Calculate running pace, finish time, or distance. Enter any two values to find the third. Supports km and miles. Includes pace charts for common race distances: 5km, 10km, half marathon, and marathon.

Is the Running Pace Calculator free to use?

Yes. The Running Pace Calculator is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the Running Pace Calculator made for New Zealand?

Yes. It is hosted on Calculate.co.nz for New Zealand runners and supports both kilometres and miles. The pace, time and distance calculations work the same way anywhere, so no country-specific rules are involved.

Running Record Calculator

How do you calculate accuracy on a running record?

Subtract the errors from the total words read, divide by the total words, and multiply by 100. Reading 200 words with 10 errors gives (200 - 10) / 200 x 100, an accuracy rate of 95%. Texts at 95% to 100% are considered easy or independent level, 90% to 94% instructional, and below 90% hard or frustration level.

What is a good self-correction ratio?

The self-correction ratio is errors plus self-corrections, divided by self-corrections. A ratio of 1:3 or better, meaning the reader corrects at least one in every three miscues, shows the child is monitoring their own reading. With 10 errors and 5 self-corrections the ratio is (10 + 5) / 5, which is 1:3.

What do the three reading levels mean?

Easy or independent (95% to 100% accuracy) suits independent reading. Instructional (90% to 94%) is the sweet spot for guided teaching, challenging but manageable with support. Hard or frustration (below 90%) means the text is too difficult and a simpler one will teach more.

Running Split Time Calculator NZ

How do I work out running pace?

Divide your target finish time by the distance to get the time per kilometre, your pace. Holding that pace for every kilometre gives you your goal time, so it is the number to aim for on each split during a race.

What is a split?

A split is the time for a segment of a run, usually each kilometre. Even splits, running each kilometre at the same pace, is a common race strategy, while negative splits mean running the second half faster than the first.

How do I convert pace to speed?

Speed in kilometres per hour is the distance divided by the time in hours. A 5 minute per kilometre pace is 12 kilometres per hour. This tool shows both your per-kilometre pace and your speed.

School Costs Calculator NZ

How much does school cost in New Zealand?

State schooling is free, but families still face donations, uniforms, stationery, devices, trips and activities, which add up to a meaningful annual cost per child. This calculator totals them.

Are school donations compulsory?

No, school donations are voluntary, and some schools opt into a scheme not to ask for them. Other costs like uniforms, trips and devices are more often unavoidable.

How do I budget for school costs?

Add up the annual costs per child and set aside a regular amount, since big items like devices and camps come in lumps. The calculator shows the yearly total to plan for.

Scientific Calculator

What is the Scientific Calculator?

Free online scientific calculator with trigonometry (sin, cos, tan), logarithms, exponents, square root, powers, and memory functions. Full-featured scientific calculator for students and professionals.

Is the Scientific Calculator free to use?

Yes. The Scientific Calculator is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Does the scientific calculator run in my browser?

Yes. Every calculation, including trigonometry, logarithms, exponents, powers and roots, runs entirely in your browser using standard mathematical functions, so nothing is sent to a server. The formulas follow the same order of operations used in maths everywhere, giving the same results on any device.

Sharemilking Income Calculator NZ

How does 50:50 sharemilking work?

The sharemilker receives half the milk income and in exchange owns the herd and carries a defined set of costs, typically labour, animal health, breeding, shed expenses and often part of the electricity and dairy costs. The farm owner provides the land, the buildings and the plant and carries the costs attached to those, including rates, insurance on structures, repairs and maintenance and fertiliser. The split of income is the headline, but the split of costs is what determines whether the deal works.

What is variable order sharemilking?

Any agreement at a share other than half, most often somewhere in the twenties or low thirties, where the sharemilker does not own the herd. A lower share comes with a lighter set of costs to carry, so the percentage on its own says very little about whether one agreement is better than another. Two agreements at the same percentage can be quite different businesses depending on where the cost lines fall.

Why look at both sides of the agreement?

Because the same milk income is being divided, and a change that improves one side comes out of the other unless production or costs change. Seeing both columns from one set of numbers makes it obvious what a shift in the share percentage or in who pays for what is actually worth, which is a more useful basis for a conversation than each party modelling their own half separately.

Ski Size Calculator NZ

What size skis do I need for my height?

As a rule of thumb, an adult ski stood on its tail should reach somewhere between your chin and the top of your head. Beginners should sit at the short end of that band, roughly 10 to 15 centimetres below their height, intermediates around 5 to 10 below, advanced skiers close to head height, and experts at or slightly above it.

Does the type of ski change the length?

Yes. Powder and freeride skis are usually run about 5 centimetres longer than an all-mountain ski for float in soft snow, while carving and park skis are usually run a few centimetres shorter so they turn faster and are easier to spin and control.

Does weight matter for ski length?

It nudges the answer a few centimetres. A heavier or stronger skier can bend and drive a longer, stiffer ski, while a lighter skier will find a slightly shorter ski easier to flex and turn. Children are sized differently again, mostly by weight rather than height, so this tool is for adults and teens of adult height.

Skirting & Architrave Calculator NZ 2026

How do I work out how much skirting I need?

Skirting follows the perimeter of the room, less the width of any doorways where it stops. Add a waste allowance of around 10 percent for mitred corners and cuts, then round up to whole board lengths when ordering. This calculator does the maths for you.

How much architrave does a door need?

A standard single internal doorway needs roughly 5 to 5.2 metres of architrave to frame both sides and across the top. Wider or double doors need more. Multiply your allowance per door by the number of doorways.

Why add a waste allowance?

Skirting and architrave are cut and mitred at corners and around openings, which produces offcuts, and the occasional cut goes wrong. A waste allowance of about 10 percent, more for complex rooms, means you do not run short midway and have to match a new batch.

Smoking Pack-Years Calculator NZ

What is a pack-year?

A pack-year is smoking one pack of 20 cigarettes a day for one year. It is multiplied by packs per day times years smoked, and doctors use it to gauge smoking exposure and related health risk, so half a pack a day for 20 years is 10 pack-years.

Why does pack-years matter?

It is a standard measure of cumulative tobacco exposure that helps assess the risk of smoking-related diseases. A higher pack-year total generally means higher risk, and it is often asked about in health checks and screening.

How much does smoking cost in New Zealand?

With high tobacco taxes, a pack can cost around 35 dollars or more, so a pack a day adds up to tens of thousands of dollars over years. This tool shows both the pack-years and the total spend, which can be a powerful reason to quit.

Somatic Cell Count Calculator NZ

How is bulk milk somatic cell count calculated?

It is a volume weighted average, not a plain average of the cows. Every cow contributes her own cell count in proportion to how much milk she puts in the vat, so multiply each cow's litres by her cell count, add those together across the herd, and divide by the total litres. That weighting is why a high cow producing well affects the vat more than a high cow that is nearly dry.

Why do a few cows dominate the vat reading?

Because cell counts across a herd are not evenly spread: a small number of infected cows can sit ten or twenty times above the rest, and multiplying that by their litres gives them an outsized share of the total cells in the vat. It is why withholding or drying off a handful of identified cows can move a bulk reading a long way in a single milking, and why herd testing to find out which cows they are is usually the first step.

What does a high cell count cost?

Two ways. There is whatever your company charges in grade penalties or deducts from the price, which differs between processors and is not supplied here, and there is the milk the affected cows are not producing, since infection reduces yield well before anything shows in the vat. This page calculates the vat arithmetic and lets you enter your own penalty, rather than quoting a grade structure that may not be yours.

Spouting & Guttering Calculator NZ 2026

How many downpipes do I need?

As a guide, provide a downpipe for roughly every 10 to 12 metres of gutter, and more where a large roof area drains into one run. Under-providing downpipes causes overflow in heavy rain, so size them to your roof catchment and local rainfall.

How far apart should gutter brackets be?

Spouting brackets are typically spaced around every 600mm, or to the manufacturer's specification, with closer spacing in areas of heavy rain or snow. This calculator uses 600mm centres to estimate the bracket count.

What fittings do I need besides spouting?

Besides the gutter lengths, downpipes and brackets, you need internal and external corners, stop ends, joiners, and downpipe outlets or droppers. Measure each run and corner, and add these fittings to the order separately.

Stair Calculator

How do I calculate the number of stairs?

Divide the total height from floor to floor by a comfortable riser height, around 180 to 190 mm, and round to a whole number of steps. Then divide the total height by that number for the exact riser. The calculator does this and checks the result is comfortable.

What is a comfortable riser and tread?

A common guide is twice the riser plus the tread, the going, should be about 600 to 640 mm. Risers around 180 mm and treads around 280 mm feel comfortable. The building code sets limits, so check the current rules for your project.

What is the total run of a staircase?

The total run is the horizontal distance the stairs cover. It is the number of treads times the tread depth. Knowing it helps you check the stairs fit the space available before you build.

Standard Calculator

What is the Standard Calculator?

Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square, square root, cube, and cube root calculations. A simple and accurate online standard calculator for everyday use.

Is the Standard Calculator free to use?

Yes. The Standard Calculator is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Does the standard calculator work on mobile and offline?

Yes. The calculator runs entirely in your browser, so it works on phones, tablets and computers, and keeps working without a connection once the page has loaded. It performs the same basic arithmetic and root operations using standard maths rules, giving identical results on any device.

Streaming Bundle Calculator NZ

How much do streaming services cost a year?

Each looks small, but several together add up to hundreds a year. This calculator totals your services and shows the annual cost, plus the saving from rotating rather than keeping them all at once.

What is rotating streaming services?

Rotating means keeping only a couple of services active at a time and switching between them, rather than paying for all of them every month. It can cut the cost significantly while still giving plenty to watch.

How can I cut streaming costs?

Cancel services you rarely use, share a family plan where allowed, and rotate subscriptions so you only pay for what you are actually watching this month.

Swimming Pace Calculator NZ

How is swimming pace measured?

Swimming pace is usually given as the time to swim 100 metres. You work it out by dividing your total time by the distance and multiplying by 100. A pace of 2 minutes per 100 metres is a common steady training pace.

How do I use pace in training?

Knowing your pace per 100 metres lets you set target times for sets and intervals, judge whether you are swimming evenly, and track improvement over time. Most swim sets are built around a target 100 metre pace.

What speed does that equal?

Speed in metres per second is the distance divided by the time in seconds. A 2 minute 100 metre pace is about 0.83 metres per second. This tool shows both the per-100-metre pace and the speed.

Takeaway vs Cooking Calculator NZ

How much do takeaways cost a year?

It adds up fast. A couple of takeaway meals a week for a family can cost well over a hundred dollars a week, several thousand a year, when the same meals cooked at home would cost a fraction of that.

How much cheaper is cooking at home?

Cooking the same meal at home is usually far cheaper per serve than buying it, often a third or less of the takeaway price. The saving depends on what you order and cook, which this calculator lets you compare.

Should I never buy takeaways?

Not at all; takeaways have their place for convenience and enjoyment. The point is to see the cost clearly so you can decide how often fits your budget, rather than letting it creep up unnoticed.

Time Between Dates Calculator

How is this different from days between dates?

This carries the time of day at both ends. A days between dates calculator treats both as midnight, so a shift from 22:00 Friday to 06:30 Saturday reads as one day rather than the eight and a half hours it actually was.

Does it account for daylight saving?

No. The calculation is a straight elapsed time between two clock readings. In a New Zealand daylight saving transition the real elapsed time differs by an hour, so subtract or add one if your period spans late September or early April.

Why calculate in minutes rather than hours?

Because rounding to hours first loses the remainder, and errors compound across a long period. Working in minutes and converting once at the end keeps the result exact to the minute.

Time Until Calculator

How is this different from a days until calculator?

It carries the time of day. A days until calculator treats both ends as midnight, so a deadline at noon on Thursday reads the same as one at midnight, when they are twelve hours apart. If your deadline is a time rather than a date, use this one.

Why are there no figures until the page loads?

Because everything counts from the current moment, so any stored value would be wrong within a minute. The results are calculated in your browser when the page opens, which is also why they are correct for your own clock.

What happens if the target has already passed?

The same breakdown is shown as time elapsed rather than remaining. The page is used both ways in practice, so refusing to answer a past date would be unhelpful.

Timestamp Difference Calculator NZ

How do I find the time between two timestamps?

Enter both Unix timestamps in seconds and the calculator gives the difference as days, hours, minutes and seconds, plus the totals in each single unit. It uses the absolute difference, so the order you enter them does not matter.

Are timestamps in seconds or milliseconds?

Unix timestamps are usually in seconds, which is what this calculator expects. Some systems use milliseconds, which are a thousand times larger. If your numbers have three extra digits and look about a thousand times too big, divide them by 1,000 before entering.

Does the order of the timestamps matter?

No. The calculator uses the absolute difference, so entering the earlier or later timestamp first gives the same elapsed duration. It always reports a positive difference between the two moments.

Tip Calculator

Do you tip in New Zealand?

Tipping is not expected in New Zealand, as staff are paid at least the minimum wage and service is not built around tips. It is entirely optional, though some people leave a little for great service. This calculator is handy for that, or for travel where tipping is the custom.

How do I split a bill with a tip?

Add the tip to the bill for the total, then divide by the number of people. This calculator does both at once, showing the tip, the total, and the equal amount each person pays.

What is a normal tip percentage?

Where tipping is customary, 10% to 20% is typical depending on the service and the country. In New Zealand there is no standard because tipping is optional. Set whatever percentage you like and the calculator does the rest.

Topsoil and Soil Calculator NZ

How much topsoil do I need?

Multiply the area by the depth to get the volume in cubic metres, then multiply by the density for tonnes. Topsoil is roughly 1.3 tonnes per cubic metre, though garden mixes are lighter. The calculator works out both.

How deep should topsoil be?

For a new lawn, around 100 to 150 mm of good soil gives roots room to grow. Garden beds often want more. Enter the finished depth you want in millimetres.

Is topsoil sold by volume or weight?

Bulk topsoil is usually sold by the cubic metre, while some suppliers quote tonnes. The calculator shows both so you can order in whichever unit your supplier uses.

Running Training Pace Calculator

What is zone 2 training and why is it important?

Zone 2 is 60 to 70 percent of maximum heart rate, an aerobic effort where you can hold a conversation. Research shows that spending 70 to 80 percent of training in zone 2 builds the strongest aerobic base and improves fat metabolism, which underpins performance at every distance.

How do I calculate my training paces from a race result?

Enter your recent race time above. The calculator applies the Jack Daniels VDOT method to set each training zone as a percentage of your race pace. Zone 2 runs at roughly 110 to 120 percent of your race pace (slower), while zone 5 intervals run at 82 to 89 percent (faster).

Why do my training paces feel slow?

Zone 2 pace often feels surprisingly slow, especially for newer runners. Running easy most of the time is a key principle of effective training used by elite marathon runners worldwide. Keeping easy days truly easy allows you to train harder on hard days and recover fully between sessions.

Tutoring Cost Calculator NZ

How much does tutoring cost a year?

It adds up with regular sessions. One subject tutored weekly through the school terms can run to over a thousand dollars a year, and more subjects or children multiply that, so it pays to budget for the full year, not just per session.

How do I budget for tutoring across subjects and children?

Multiply the session price by sessions per week, the weeks in the terms, the number of subjects and the number of children. This calculator does that so you see the termly and yearly cost across everyone being tutored.

Is group tutoring cheaper?

Group sessions usually cost less per session than one-on-one, though one-on-one is more tailored. You can enter your own session price here to compare, and decide what balance of cost and attention suits your child.

Grocery Unit Price Calculator NZ

What is unit price?

Unit price is the cost per standard measure, such as per 100 grams, per litre or per item. Comparing unit prices lets you see which product is genuinely cheaper regardless of pack size.

Is the bigger pack always cheaper?

Not always. Sometimes a larger pack has a higher unit price than a smaller one, and a special can still be dearer per unit than another product. Comparing unit price reveals the real value.

How do I compare different sizes?

Divide each product price by its size to get the price per unit, then compare. This calculator does it instantly for two or three products so you can decide at the shelf.

University Cost Calculator NZ

How much does university cost in New Zealand?

The cost combines tuition fees and living costs over the years of study, less any allowance or part-time income. Much of the fees and living costs can be borrowed through the student loan scheme, which you repay later.

What is the student loan for?

It can cover course fees, course-related costs and living costs while studying. The living costs portion is a weekly amount, and you repay the loan once your income passes the repayment threshold.

How can students reduce the cost?

A student allowance, where eligible, does not have to be repaid, and part-time work and living at home reduce borrowing. Borrowing less means a smaller loan to repay after study.

UTF-8 Byte Length Calculator NZ

Why is byte length different from character count?

In UTF-8, characters take different numbers of bytes: basic English characters use one byte, but accented letters, other scripts and emoji use two to four bytes. So text with such characters has more bytes than characters, which matters for byte-limited fields and payloads.

How many bytes does an emoji take?

Most emoji take four bytes in UTF-8, and some, like flag emoji built from two regional-indicator symbols, take eight bytes across two code points. This is why a single emoji can add far more to the byte count than to the visible character count.

When does byte length matter?

Whenever a limit is measured in bytes rather than characters: database fields with byte caps, network payloads, file sizes, and some APIs. Sizing by characters alone can overflow a byte limit when the text contains accents, other scripts or emoji.

Velvet and Venison Income Calculator NZ

How is velvet income calculated?

Velvet is sold by weight, so income is the number of stags velvetted multiplied by the average weight cut from each and the price a kilogram. Price varies sharply by grade, and grade depends on the stage the velvet was cut at as well as on the shape and condition of the stick, so an average price across a line will usually sit below the top grade quoted. Velvetting must be carried out under the National Velvetting Standards Body scheme by a certified operator or a veterinarian.

How does venison income differ from velvet?

Venison is paid on carcass weight against a schedule in the same way as lamb or beef, so income is the number killed multiplied by the average carcass weight and the schedule price, less the deductions on the kill sheet. It is a one off return per animal, whereas velvet is an annual harvest from a stag that stays on the farm, which is why the two sit on quite different sides of a deer farming decision.

Why does the deer sector have so few calculators?

Largely a matter of scale: sheep, beef and dairy are much larger sectors and the tools built for New Zealand farming follow the numbers. That leaves deer farmers doing velvet and venison arithmetic on paper or in a spreadsheet built from scratch, which is the gap this page is here to fill. It holds no prices of its own, since velvet and venison both move with season and grade.

Waist to Hip Ratio Calculator

What is waist to hip ratio?

Waist to hip ratio is your waist measurement divided by your hip measurement. It is a simple measure of how fat is distributed around your body, and a higher ratio, meaning more weight around the middle, is linked to greater health risk than weight carried on the hips.

What is a healthy waist to hip ratio?

Using World Health Organization thresholds, the risk is higher for men at a ratio of 0.90 or above and for women at 0.85 or above. Below those figures the risk from fat distribution is considered lower. These are general guides, not a diagnosis.

How do I measure my waist and hips?

Measure your waist at the narrowest point, usually just above the belly button, and your hips at the widest point around the buttocks. Keep the tape level and snug without compressing the skin, and measure on bare skin or light clothing for the most consistent result.

Wedding Guest Cost Calculator NZ

How much does a wedding cost per guest?

The per-guest cost is the variable spend (catering, drinks, favours and the seat) divided across your guests, on top of fixed costs like the dress, photographer and venue hire. Cutting the guest list is one of the most effective ways to reduce a wedding budget.

Why does the guest list drive the cost?

Many of the biggest wedding costs scale with numbers: food, drinks, tables, chairs and sometimes the venue. Each extra guest adds the per-head cost, so a larger list quickly lifts the total.

How can I cut the cost?

Trimming the guest list, choosing a simpler menu, and limiting the bar all reduce the variable per-guest spend. The fixed costs stay the same, so a smaller, simpler celebration is the surest way to save.

Week Calculator

What is the ISO week number?

A numbering where week 1 is the week containing the first Thursday of January, and weeks run Monday to Sunday. It is used in payroll, manufacturing and project scheduling, particularly in Europe, and it is the standard behind the term week 40 or W40.

Can a year have 53 weeks?

Yes. A year has 53 ISO weeks when 1 January falls on a Thursday, or on a Wednesday in a leap year. Most years have 52. This is why a payroll system can occasionally produce a 53rd weekly pay period.

Why can 1 January be in week 52 of the previous year?

Because ISO weeks run Monday to Sunday and belong to the year containing their Thursday. If 1 January falls on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, that week's Thursday was in December, so those first days belong to the previous year's final week.

Weighted Grade Calculator NZ

How do I calculate a weighted grade?

Multiply each assessment grade by its weight, add those up, and divide by the total of the weights. An assessment worth more pulls the final grade toward its result, which is why a big exam matters more than a small quiz.

Do the weights need to add to 100?

No. The calculator divides by whatever the weights add up to, so you can enter only the assessments completed so far to see your grade to date, or all of them with their real weights for your projected final grade.

How do I see what I need on the final?

Enter your completed assessments and leave the final's grade blank or at zero to see your current standing, then try different scores for the final to find the grade you need to reach your target overall.

Wingdings Translator

How do the Wingdings symbols relate to letters?

The Wingdings font draws a fixed picture for each of the 94 printable characters on a standard keyboard. Type a capital J and the font shows a smiley face, an N gives the skull and crossbones, a Z produces the star and crescent, the lowercase letters cover the zodiac signs and geometric shapes, and the digits show folders, documents and office equipment. Capital and lowercase letters map to different symbols, so your name looks different in each case.

Can I copy and paste Wingdings symbols?

Yes. This translator does not rely on the font being installed. It outputs the official Unicode equivalents that were added in Unicode 7.0 in 2014 precisely so Wingdings content could travel as plain text. Because each symbol is a real character, it survives in social bios, chat messages and documents. Some devices draw a few of the symbols in colourful emoji style, and very old devices may show empty boxes for the rarer ones.

How do I translate Wingdings back into text?

Switch the direction to Wingdings to text and paste the symbols in. Each symbol is looked up by its Unicode code point in the reverse of the same table and replaced with the keyboard character that produces it in the font, rebuilding the original message. Symbols that are not part of the Wingdings set, along with spaces, pass through unchanged.

Wood Pellet Cost Calculator NZ

How much does a pellet fire cost to run?

It depends on how many bags of pellets you burn and the price per bag. A typical winter might use one to two bags a day in cold weather, so the seasonal cost is the bags burned times the bag price.

Are pellet fires cheaper than a heat pump?

It varies with pellet and power prices. Pellet fires give a strong, cosy heat and work in a power cut, but a heat pump is often cheaper per unit of heat. Compare the seasonal cost of each for your home.

Do pellet prices change?

Yes, pellet prices vary by supplier, region and whether you buy by the bag or the pallet. Buying in bulk before winter is usually cheaper per bag.

Wool Income vs Shearing Cost Calculator NZ

Does wool still cover the cost of shearing in New Zealand?

For strong wool it is genuinely marginal and depends on the price of the day, the fleece weight and what the shed costs. Fine wool is a different market and generally clears its costs comfortably. The honest answer for any individual flock is arithmetic rather than opinion, which is what this page does: put your own fleece weight and the price you were actually paid against your own shearing, crutching and shed costs, and see what is left.

What costs go into getting a clip off?

Shearing per head is the largest, and crutching is charged separately and usually happens at a different time of year. Beyond the shearers there are shed hands, the presser, food and accommodation on a bigger board, and then cartage and the selling costs at the other end. Counting only the shearing rate is how a clip that loses money can look like it breaks even.

Is shearing worth it if the wool does not pay?

Shearing is an animal welfare requirement rather than an optional harvest, so the question is never whether to shear but how to structure it. Even where the clip does not clear its own costs, the shearing still has to happen, which makes the net figure a measure of how much the wool offsets a cost you were going to carry anyway rather than a profit or loss on a product you chose to make.

Words to Pages Calculator NZ

How many words is one page?

As a rough guide, one page is about 500 words single-spaced or 250 words double-spaced, in a standard 12 point font. The exact figure depends on font, size, margins and spacing, so treat it as an estimate.

Why does spacing change the page count?

Double spacing puts roughly half as many lines on a page as single spacing, so the same word count fills about twice as many pages. Many assignments specify double spacing, which is why knowing the setting matters.

Is this exact?

No, it is an estimate. Headings, paragraphs, images, font choice and margins all affect the real page count. Use it to plan roughly how long a piece will be, then check the actual document for the final figure.
