Audit Score Calculator

This audit score calculator adds up the points from each section of an audit or checklist and turns them into an overall percentage, then compares that score against your pass threshold and gives a plain compliance rating. Audits, whether for health and safety, food handling, quality, supplier reviews or internal controls, usually break down into sections, each worth a certain number of points, and the final score is the points earned as a share of the points possible. Enter the points scored and the maximum for up to five sections, set the pass mark your standard requires, and the calculator totals everything, works out the percentage and tells you whether you have passed. It also assigns a rating band, from needs improvement through to excellent, so you can see at a glance how strong the result is beyond a simple pass or fail. Sections with more available points naturally count for more in the total, which mirrors how most scored audits work; if you want each section to weigh the same, give them equal maximums. Leave any unused section rows blank. Use it to tally a paper audit quickly, to sense-check a result before signing it off, or to see how close a borderline score sits to the threshold. It is an estimate to support your judgement, not a substitute for your audit standard.

Scoring 63 out of 70 gives an audit score of 90.0%, above your 80% pass mark. Rating: Good.

How it works

The overall score is total points earned divided by total points possible, times 100. Every section you fill in is added to both totals, so a section worth 25 points carries more weight than one worth 10, exactly as most scored audits intend. The result is compared against your pass threshold to give a pass or fail, and a rating band is assigned: 95% and above is excellent, 85% and above is good, 70% and above is satisfactory, and anything lower is flagged as needs improvement. Leave any section blank to exclude it from the totals.

Worked example

Suppose an audit has four sections. You score 18 of 20 on the first, 22 of 25 on the second, 14 of 15 on the third and 9 of 10 on the fourth. The points earned add up to 18 + 22 + 14 + 9 = 63, and the points possible add up to 20 + 25 + 15 + 10 = 70. The overall score is 63 / 70 x 100 = 90.0%. With a pass threshold of 80%, that clears the bar comfortably and lands in the good band, since it is above 85% but below 95%.
