Terminal Tax Due Date Calculator NZ 2026/27

When is terminal tax due in New Zealand?

For the standard 31 March balance date, terminal tax is due 7 February the following year if you do not have a tax agent, or 7 April if you are linked to a registered tax agent with an extension of time arrangement. Inland Revenue confirms this on its own 7 February payment reminder page.

What is the difference between the tax return filing deadline and the terminal tax due date?

They are different dates. Self-filers without an extension of time must file their income tax return by 7 July following the end of the tax year. The terminal tax due date, the date the actual payment (or refund) is settled, falls much later, on 7 February the following year. It is normal to have filed your return many months before your terminal tax payment is due.

How does a tax agent move my terminal tax due date to 7 April?

Registered tax agents can hold an extension of time (EOT) arrangement with Inland Revenue that lets them spread their clients' return filing across the year. Clients linked to an agent with an EOT arrangement in place generally get their terminal tax due date moved from 7 February to 7 April, two extra months. If you use a tax agent and are unsure whether your EOT is current, ask your agent directly.

Is my terminal tax always due 7 February if I do not have a tax agent?

For a standard 31 March balance date, yes, 7 February is the nominal due date every year if you have no tax agent, or an agent without a current extension of time. If 7 February falls on a weekend, Inland Revenue moves the due date to the next working day, for example 7 February 2026 fell on a Saturday, so that year's due date was Monday 9 February 2026.

What happens if my terminal tax due date falls on a weekend or public holiday?

If 7 February or 7 April falls on a Saturday or Sunday, Inland Revenue moves the due date to the next working day. This calculator applies that same weekend adjustment. Public holidays are not modelled here, so if your due date lands close to Waitangi Day or Easter, confirm the exact date in myIR.

What happens if I miss my terminal tax due date?

Unpaid tax after the due date attracts use of money interest, which compounds daily, and can also attract late payment penalties. Contact Inland Revenue as early as possible if you cannot pay in full, since an instalment arrangement can reduce or stop further penalties. Our Use of Money Interest Calculator estimates what a late payment could cost.

Does the terminal tax date change if I have a non-standard balance date?

For balance dates from 31 March to 30 September, terminal tax follows the standard cohort and is due 7 February the following year, or 7 April with a tax agent. For balance dates from 1 October to the end of February, it is due on the seventh day of the eleventh month after your balance date, or the thirteenth month with a tax agent. Inland Revenue can also set individual schedules, so confirm your exact date in myIR or with your tax agent.

Is terminal tax the same as provisional tax?

No. Provisional tax is a series of prepayments made during the year if your residual income tax was over $5,000 the previous year. Terminal tax is the final wash-up once your actual tax liability for the year is known: you pay any shortfall between what you owed and what you already prepaid, or you receive a refund if you prepaid too much.

Countdown Timer

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The timer uses JavaScript's Date object to track elapsed time, so it remains accurate even if you switch to another browser tab or minimise the window. The alarm will sound when the countdown reaches zero regardless of whether the tab is in focus.

Will the alarm sound on my phone?

Yes, as long as your phone is not on silent mode and the browser tab remains open. The alarm uses the Web Audio API to generate a tone directly in the browser without needing to download any audio files. Some mobile browsers may require you to interact with the page (tap or click) before audio can play.

Can I set a timer for more than one hour?

Yes. You can set the timer for up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. Use the hours, minutes, and seconds inputs to set any duration you need.

What is the difference between a countdown timer and a stopwatch?

A countdown timer counts down from a set duration to zero and then alerts you. A stopwatch counts up from zero to measure elapsed time. This page is a countdown timer. For a stopwatch, see our Stopwatch and Countdown Timer page.

Can I pause and resume the timer?

Yes. Click Pause to stop the countdown, then Resume to continue from where you left off. The timer maintains its remaining time accurately when paused.

Adjusted Age Calculator

What is adjusted or corrected age?

Adjusted age, also called corrected age, is a baby's age counted from the original due date rather than the actual birth date. For a baby born early, you subtract the number of weeks they were premature from their chronological age. It gives a fairer picture of expected development, because a baby born eight weeks early has had eight fewer weeks to grow than a full-term baby of the same chronological age.

How do you calculate corrected age?

First find the weeks premature: 40 weeks (full term) minus the gestational age at birth. Then subtract that from the chronological age. A baby born at 32 weeks is 8 weeks premature, so at a chronological age of 27 weeks their corrected age is 27 minus 8, which is 19 weeks.

Until what age do you correct for prematurity?

Most guidance corrects age when tracking growth and developmental milestones until about two years old, by which time most premature babies have caught up. Some clinicians continue correcting for very premature babies a little longer. This is a general tracking tool, so follow the advice of your midwife, Plunket nurse or paediatrician.

Age Calculator NZ 2026

What is the Age Calculator NZ 2026?

Calculate your exact age in years, months, and days. Includes your NZ Superannuation eligibility date (age 65), days until your next birthday, and KiwiSaver withdrawal eligibility. Free NZ age calculator.

Is the Age Calculator NZ 2026 free to use?

Yes. The Age Calculator NZ 2026 is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the Age Calculator NZ 2026 made for New Zealand?

Yes. It is built for New Zealand and uses current New Zealand rules and rates where they apply. Results are indicative estimates and not financial advice.

Age Difference Calculator

How do I work out the age gap between two people?

Count whole years from the earlier birthdate, then whole months from that anniversary, then the days left over. Do not divide the total days by 365, because leap years and varying month lengths make the result drift by several days over a decade.

Does this use today's date?

No. Both ends are fixed birthdates, so the answer is stable and never changes. That is the difference between this and an age calculator, which measures from a birthdate to today and therefore changes daily.

Why is the decimal figure divided by 365.25?

Because a year averages 365.25 days once leap years are included. Dividing by 365 would overstate the gap slightly, and the error grows the longer the period.

Age in Days Calculator NZ

How do I work out my age in days?

Count the number of days between your date of birth and today. The calculator does this exactly, allowing for leap years, and also shows the equivalent in weeks and hours, which years alone never reveal.

Why would I want my age in days?

It is a fun and surprisingly meaningful way to see your age, popular for milestone celebrations like a 10,000-day birthday, and handy for working out exact ages for forms, records or curiosity.

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. Because it counts the actual calendar days between the two dates, leap days are included automatically, so the result is exact rather than an approximation based on 365-day years.

Age in Hours Calculator

How do I work out my age in hours?

Count the calendar days between your date of birth and today, then multiply by 24, the number of hours in a day. Someone born on 15 June 1995 has lived 11,406 days as at 6 September 2026, which is 273,744 hours.

How many hours are in a year?

A 365-day year has 8,760 hours and a leap year has 8,784. Because leap years add up over a lifetime, the calculator counts your real days rather than multiplying your age in years by a fixed number of hours.

Does it allow for leap years?

Yes. It counts the actual calendar days between your birth date and today, so every 29 February you have lived through is included automatically and the total is exact to the day rather than an estimate.

Age in Minutes Calculator

How do I work out my age in minutes?

Count the calendar days between your date of birth and today, then multiply by 1,440, the number of minutes in a day. Someone born on 15 June 1995 has lived 11,406 days as at 6 September 2026, which is about 16,424,640 minutes.

Does the calculator allow for leap years?

Yes. It counts the actual calendar days between your birth date and today, so every 29 February you have lived through is included automatically and the day count is exact rather than an estimate based on 365-day years.

How many minutes are in a year?

A 365-day year has 525,600 minutes and a leap year has 527,040. Over a lifetime the leap days add up, which is why the calculator counts real days rather than multiplying your age in years by a fixed number.

Age in Months Calculator

How do I work out my age in months?

Count the number of complete calendar months between your date of birth and today. Multiply your full years by 12 and add the extra whole months since your last birthday. Someone born on 15 June 1995 is 374 whole months old as at 6 September 2026.

Why count age in months?

Months are the natural unit for babies and toddlers, whose growth and milestones are tracked by month rather than year, and they are useful for tenancy, finance and study periods measured in months. A month view also gives a finer sense of age than years alone.

Does it count part months?

No. It counts only complete calendar months. If your birthday is the 15th, a new month is added on the 15th of each month, and any days since then are shown separately in the total days figure rather than rounded into an extra month.

Age in Seconds Calculator

How do I work out my age in seconds?

Count the calendar days between your date of birth and today, then multiply by 86,400, the number of seconds in a day. Someone born on 15 June 1995 has lived 11,406 days as at 6 September 2026, which is about 985,478,400 seconds.

When do I turn one billion seconds old?

One billion seconds is 11,574 days, which works out to about 31.7 years, so your billionth second arrives a few months after your 31st birthday. It has become a popular milestone to celebrate, and the calculator makes it easy to see how close you are.

Does the calculator account for leap years?

Yes. It counts the actual calendar days between your birth date and today, so every leap day is included automatically and the result is exact to the day rather than an estimate based on 365-day years.

Age in Weeks Calculator

How do I work out my age in weeks?

Count the calendar days between your date of birth and today, then divide by 7. Someone born on 15 June 1995 has lived 11,406 days as at 6 September 2026, which is 1,629 whole weeks with 3 days left over.

How many weeks are in a year?

A 365-day year has 52 weeks and 1 day, and a leap year has 52 weeks and 2 days, so a year is a little over 52 weeks. Because those extra days add up, the calculator counts your real days and divides by 7 rather than multiplying your age in years by 52.

Does it allow for leap years?

Yes. It counts the actual calendar days between your birth date and today, so every leap day is included automatically and the total is exact rather than an estimate based on 365-day years.

Age on Other Planets Calculator

How is my age on another planet worked out?

Your age in Earth years is divided by the number of Earth years that planet takes to orbit the Sun once. A year on Mars lasts 1.88 Earth years, so your Mars age is your Earth age divided by 1.88, which is why you are always younger on the outer planets.

Why am I younger on Jupiter than on Earth?

A planet's year is one full trip around the Sun, and the further out a planet is, the longer that trip takes. Jupiter takes almost 12 Earth years for a single orbit, so you have completed far fewer Jupiter years than Earth years, making your Jupiter age much smaller.

Which planet makes me oldest?

Mercury, the closest planet to the Sun, has the shortest year at just 88 Earth days, so you rack up Mercury years more than four times as fast as Earth years. That makes your Mercury age the largest of any planet in the solar system.

Age Word Problem Calculator

How are age problems solved?

Add the same unknown number of years to both ages, set up the required relationship as an equation, and solve for the years.

What does a negative answer mean?

The relationship held in the past, that many years ago, rather than in the future.

Why can the multiple of 1 fail?

Two people keep the same age gap forever, so one can equal the other only if they are already the same age.

Anniversary Calculator

How do I work out how many years an anniversary is?

Count the number of complete years between the original date and today. The anniversary that is coming up is one more than the number of complete years that have already passed, so ten complete years means your eleventh anniversary is next.

How many days until my next anniversary?

Take the day and month of your original date and find the next time it falls on or after today. The number of days between today and that date is your countdown. This calculator does that for you and also shows the total number of days since the original date.

Does it work for weddings, relationships and work anniversaries?

Yes. The calculator works for any recurring anniversary, whether it is a wedding, the day you met, a work start date, a birthday or the anniversary of buying a house. Just enter the original date and it counts the years and the days to the next one.

Billable Hours Calculator

What is the difference between hours worked and billable hours?

Hours worked is all the time you put in, including admin, sales and internal tasks. Billable hours are only the portion a client pays for. The difference is your non-billable time.

How is billable revenue calculated?

Billable revenue is simply billable hours multiplied by your hourly rate. It does not include non-billable time, since that is not charged. It is the gross figure before tax and costs.

What is a healthy utilisation rate?

Many service businesses aim for roughly 60 to 80 percent utilisation. Higher leaves no room for sales, learning or rest, while much lower may signal a pipeline problem. The right target depends on your role and model.

Bird Age Calculator

How do you convert a bird's age to human years?

Because birds vary enormously in how long they live, the fairest way is to scale their age against their species lifespan. Divide the bird's age by the typical lifespan for its species, then multiply by a human reference lifespan of about 80 years. A budgie of 3 with a typical lifespan of 8 years is 3 divided by 8 times 80, which is about 30 in human terms.

Why is there no single bird age formula?

Unlike dogs, birds have no widely accepted ageing study, and lifespans range from about 7 years for a small finch to 60 or more for a large cockatoo. A rule that works for a budgie would be badly wrong for a macaw. Scaling each bird against its own species lifespan gives a consistent, if approximate, comparison across very different birds.

How long do pet birds live?

With good care, budgerigars often reach 8 years, cockatiels around 15, and lovebirds about 12. Larger parrots live far longer: African greys and macaws commonly reach 50, and cockatoos can pass 60. Diet, housing, exercise and veterinary care all affect how close a bird gets to its potential lifespan.

Birth From Death Date Calculator

How do you work out birth year from age at death?

Subtract the age at death from the year of death. That gives the later of two possible birth years, the one that applies if the person had already had their birthday in the year they died. If their birthday still lay ahead, they were born the year before that. Without a known birthday you cannot pin it to a single year, only to the two candidates.

Why are there two possible birth years?

Age at death is counted in completed years, so it does not reveal whether the birthday had passed. Someone who died aged 72 could have turned 72 earlier that year or be still waiting on that birthday, and those two cases fall in different calendar years. The calculator shows both, along with the earliest and latest possible birth dates that bracket them.

What birth date range does an age at death give?

The latest possible birth date is exactly the age in years before the death date, which is the case where the person died on their birthday. The earliest is the day after they would have turned one year older, since any earlier and they would have reached the next age. The true birth date lies somewhere in that roughly one year window.

Birth Year Calculator

How do I work out my birth year from my age?

Subtract your age from the current year. If you have already had your birthday this year, that answer is your birth year. If your birthday is still to come, subtract one more year. For example, in 2026 someone aged 30 who has had their birthday was born in 1996, while someone aged 30 still waiting on their birthday was born in 1995.

What if my birthday is today?

Count it as already had. The moment your birthday arrives you turn your new age, so today counts as having had your birthday this year. Select Yes in the calculator and it subtracts your age straight from the current year.

Does this work for any year?

Yes. The arithmetic is the same for any age and any year: current year minus age, less one more year if the birthday has not happened yet. The calculator always uses the current year in New Zealand, so the answer stays correct whenever you use it.

Birthday Calculator

What day of the week was I born?

Enter your date of birth and the calculator names the weekday straight away. Every calendar date maps to exactly one day of the week, so someone born on 15 January 1990 arrived on a Monday. The calculator does the same lookup for any date you enter.

How are the days until my birthday counted?

The count is the number of whole days from today until the date of your next birthday, using the current date in New Zealand. Today does not count, but your birthday itself does, so the day before your birthday shows 1 day and your birthday shows 0 days.

What about a 29 February birthday?

In a leap year your birthday falls on 29 February as normal. In non-leap years the calculator treats your birthday as 1 March, the day you complete another full year, so the countdown and your age still work every year.

Birthday Paradox Calculator

Why is it called the birthday paradox?

It is called a paradox because the answer feels far too high. With just 23 people in a room the chance that at least two of them share a birthday is already about 50.7 percent, and with 70 people it is over 99.9 percent. Most people expect the group to need to be much larger, which is what makes the result surprising rather than being a genuine contradiction.

How is the shared birthday probability calculated?

The calculator works out the chance that everyone has a different birthday, then subtracts that from 1. For a group of n people the chance of all different birthdays is 365/365 times 364/365 times 363/365 and so on down to (365 minus n plus 1)/365. For 23 people that product is about 0.4927, so the chance of a shared birthday is about 0.5073, or 50.7 percent.

Does the calculator allow for leap years or twins?

No. It uses the standard model of 365 equally likely birthdays and treats each person as independent, so it ignores 29 February, seasonal birth patterns and twins. Real birth dates are slightly clustered, which pushes the true probability a little higher than the model, but the difference is small for ordinary group sizes.

Calving Date Planner NZ

How do I work out when to start mating?

Subtract the gestation length from your planned start of calving. On a New Zealand dairy herd that means picking the calving date first, from when spring pasture growth can feed the peak of lactation, then counting back around 282 days to find the planned start of mating. The calving date is the decision and the mating date follows from it, which is the opposite of how a single cow gestation calculator works.

What is the six week in calf rate?

It is the share of the herd that gets in calf in the first six weeks of mating, and it is the number that determines how tight the following calving is. A herd with a high six week rate calves in a compact block, gets more cows to peak on spring grass and has more days in milk. The same six weeks of mating turns into the first six weeks of calving, which is why the mating and calving calendars are really one calendar.

How long should mating last?

However long you set it, and whatever you choose becomes the length of your calving spread. A nine week mating produces a nine week calving. Shortening mating tightens calving but leaves more cows empty, so the decision trades a compact calving against the number of cows carried through. This planner shows both ends of that so the trade is visible rather than implicit.

Cat Age Calculator

How do you convert cat years to human years?

The standard veterinary scale counts a cat's first year as about 15 human years and the second year as another 9, reaching 24 by age two. After that each cat year adds about 4 human years, so a 5 year old cat is roughly 36 in human terms.

Is one cat year seven human years?

No, the times-seven rule is a myth for cats just as it is for dogs. Cats mature very quickly in their first two years, then age more gradually, so a simple multiplier badly misjudges both kittens and older cats.

When is a cat considered senior?

Cats are usually considered mature from about 7, senior from around 11, and geriatric from about 15, which is roughly 76 in human years. Indoor cats often live well into their late teens or beyond with good care.

Clock Duration Calculator

How do I calculate the duration between two times?

Subtract the start time from the end time in total minutes. For example, from 9:15 AM to 5:45 PM: convert both to minutes since midnight (9:15 = 555 minutes; 5:45 PM = 17:45 = 1065 minutes), then subtract (1065 - 555 = 510 minutes = 8 hours 30 minutes). If the end time is earlier than the start time, add 1,440 minutes (24 hours) to account for an overnight span.

What if the end time is before the start time?

When the end time is earlier than the start time, the duration spans midnight. The calculator automatically adds 24 hours to the result so you get the correct overnight duration. For example, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM is 8 hours, not a negative value.

How do I convert a duration to decimal hours?

Divide the minutes portion by 60 and add it to the whole hours. For example, 2 hours 45 minutes = 2 + (45 / 60) = 2.75 decimal hours. This is useful for time-sheeting and payroll calculations where hours are recorded as a decimal number.

Conception Date Calculator NZ 2026

How is the conception date estimated?

Conception happens at ovulation, about 14 days after the last period begins, which is roughly 266 days before a 280-day due date. So this calculator subtracts 266 days from a due date, or adds about 14 days to a last period, to estimate conception.

Why is conception a window rather than one day?

Ovulation timing varies between people and cycles, and sperm can survive several days, so conception could occur across a window of roughly five days rather than a single date. The calculator shows that window to reflect the natural uncertainty.

How accurate is this?

It is a guide based on average cycle assumptions, so it is less reliable if your cycles are irregular or you are unsure of your dates. An early dating ultrasound gives a more accurate timeline, and your midwife or doctor will use that for medical dating.

Countdown to Date Calculator NZ

How many days until a date?

The calculator counts the time from now until the date and time you choose, showing the days, hours and minutes remaining. It updates each time you load it, counting actual calendar days including any leap days in between.

What can I count down to?

Anything with a date, a project deadline, a wedding, a holiday, a birthday, an exam, or a product launch. Pick the date, and optionally a time, to see exactly how long you have.

What if the date has passed?

If the date is in the past, the calculator tells you it has already passed rather than showing a negative countdown, so you know at a glance whether you are still counting down.

Date Calculator NZ 2026

What is the Date Calculator NZ 2026?

Calculate the number of days between two dates, or add and subtract days from any date. Includes calendar days, working days, weeks, months, and years. Free NZ date calculator.

Is the Date Calculator NZ 2026 free to use?

Yes. The Date Calculator NZ 2026 is free to use on Calculate.co.nz, with no sign-up, paywall or account required.

Is the Date Calculator NZ 2026 made for New Zealand?

Yes. It is built for New Zealand and uses current New Zealand rules and rates where they apply. Results are indicative estimates and not financial advice.

Date Difference Calculator

How do I calculate years, months and days between two dates?

Count whole years from the earlier date first, then whole months from that anniversary, then the days left over. Do not divide the total days by 365 or 30, because months vary in length and leap years add a day, so division gives an answer that will not reconcile with a calendar.

Why is the total in days more than the years times 365?

Because of leap days. Over 26 years there are usually six or seven of them depending on where the period falls, so the day count runs ahead of a simple multiplication. In the worked example the period contains seven leap days.

What is the difference between this and a days between dates calculator?

This one gives a calendar breakdown in years, months and days, which is how people describe a length of time. A days between dates calculator gives a single total, which is what you want for counting a notice period or interest days.

Daylight Hours Calculator NZ

Why does day length change through the year?

Because the Earth's axis is tilted by about 23.4 degrees. As the Earth orbits the Sun, each hemisphere tilts toward the Sun in its summer, giving long days, and away in winter, giving short days. The effect is stronger the further you are from the equator.

Why are the times only approximate?

The calculator uses solar time centred on solar noon and a standard day-length formula. It does not account for your exact longitude within a time zone, daylight saving, or atmospheric refraction, which bends sunlight and slightly lengthens the visible day. Treat the times as a close guide.

What latitude should I use for my town?

Use a negative value for the Southern Hemisphere. Roughly, Auckland is near minus 37, Wellington minus 41, Christchurch minus 43 and Invercargill minus 46. The further south, the longer the summer days and the shorter the winter days.

Days Between Dates Calculator

How many days are between two dates?

Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The usual answer is the gap, so 1 January to 3 January is two days. If you need to count both end dates, as a booking or a leave form usually does, add one to get three.

Does this include weekends?

The headline day count includes every day. The working days figure excludes Saturdays and Sundays, and the weekend days figure counts them, so you can see both. Public holidays are not removed, because they vary by region in New Zealand.

How are leap years handled?

Correctly, including the century rule. A year is a leap year if it divides by four, except for century years, which must also divide by 400. That is why 2000 was a leap year and 1900 was not, and it is the rule most manual calculations get wrong.

Days Inventory Outstanding Calculator

What does a high DIO mean?

A high DIO means stock is sitting longer before it sells, which ties up cash and raises the risk of obsolescence. It can point to overstocking or weak demand. Lower is usually better, but you still need enough stock to avoid running out.

Should I use average inventory?

Using average inventory, the opening plus closing balance divided by two, smooths out seasonal swings. A single point in time balance can distort the result if stock was unusually high or low that day. For a year, an average often gives a fairer figure.

How does DIO relate to inventory turnover?

Inventory turnover counts how many times stock cycles in a period, while DIO converts that into a number of days. They are two views of the same thing. DIO is roughly the days in the period divided by turnover.

Days Payable Outstanding Calculator

Is a high DPO good or bad?

A higher DPO keeps cash in your business longer, which can help working capital. However, paying too slowly can harm supplier relationships and forfeit early payment discounts. The right level balances cash flow against good supplier terms.

What period should I use?

Match the days in the period to the COGS figure you enter. Use 365 days for a full year, around 90 for a quarter and 30 for a month. Keeping them aligned gives an accurate result.

How does DPO fit the cash conversion cycle?

The cash conversion cycle is days inventory plus days sales minus days payable. A higher DPO lowers the cycle because you fund less of your operations from your own cash. It is one of three levers you can manage.

Days to Years Calculator

How many days are in a year?

A common (non-leap) year has 365 days and a leap year has 366 days. Because leap years occur roughly once every 4 years (with some exceptions for century years), the average length of a year over time is 365.2425 days under the Gregorian calendar. Most simple day-to-year conversions round this to 365.25 days, which is what this calculator uses.

How do you convert days to years and months?

Divide the total days by 365.25 to get the whole number of years. Take the remaining days and divide by 30.44 (the average month length) to get the whole number of months. Whatever days are left over after that are your leftover days. For example, 1,000 days is 2 years, 8 months and roughly 26 days.

What is the difference between decimal years and years, months and days?

Decimal years express the total as a single number with a fraction, such as 2.74 years, which is useful for maths, finance, or scientific calculations. Years, months and days breaks the same duration into calendar-style units, such as 2 years, 8 months and 26 days, which is easier to read and communicate in everyday conversation.

Days Until Calculator

How many days until a date?

Subtract today's date from the target date. This page does that from midnight today so partial days do not distort the count, and shows the working days as well, which is usually the more useful figure when something has to be finished first.

Does this include today?

No. The count is the gap from today to the target, so a date tomorrow shows as one day. If you need to count both today and the target date, as some booking and leave systems do, add one.

Why does the answer change each day?

Because the start point is always today. This is a countdown rather than a measurement between two fixed points. If you want the gap between two specific dates that does not move, use the days between dates calculator instead.

Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS) Calculator

How do you convert decimal degrees to degrees, minutes and seconds?

Take the whole number part as the degrees. Multiply the remaining decimal part by 60 to get minutes, taking the whole number part of that result as the minutes. Multiply the remaining decimal part of the minutes by 60 to get seconds. For example, 41.1234 degrees: the whole number 41 is the degrees. 0.1234 times 60 equals 7.404, so 7 is the minutes. 0.404 times 60 equals 24.24, so the seconds are approximately 24.24. The result is 41 degrees, 7 minutes, 24.24 seconds.

How do you convert degrees, minutes and seconds to decimal degrees?

Divide the minutes by 60 and the seconds by 3600, then add both to the degrees. The formula is decimal degrees equals degrees plus minutes divided by 60 plus seconds divided by 3600. For example, 41 degrees, 7 minutes, 24.24 seconds becomes 41 plus 7/60 (0.1167) plus 24.24/3600 (0.00673), which equals 41.1234 decimal degrees. If the coordinate is in the southern or western hemisphere, the final decimal value is expressed as negative.

Why do GPS coordinates use both decimal degrees and DMS?

Decimal degrees (for example -36.8485, 174.7633 for Auckland) are the format most mapping software, GPS devices and web maps like Google Maps use internally, because they are easier to store and calculate with. Degrees, minutes and seconds (for example 36 degrees 50 minutes 54.6 seconds S) are the traditional format used in surveying, marine navigation, aviation charts and some older GPS units. Both describe exactly the same location, just in different notations, so converting between them is often needed when moving data between systems.

Dog Age Calculator

How do you calculate a dog's age in human years?

A 2019 study found a dog's human-equivalent age is about 16 times the natural log of its age in years, plus 31. This reflects that dogs age very fast when young and more slowly later, unlike the old idea of simply multiplying by seven.

Is one dog year really seven human years?

No, the times-seven rule is a myth. Dogs mature much faster than humans in their first couple of years, then age more gradually. A one year old dog is more like a young adult human, not a seven year old child, which the science-based formula captures.

Does size affect how dogs age?

Yes. Smaller dogs tend to live longer and age more slowly later in life, while larger breeds age faster and have shorter lifespans. The formula here gives a good general estimate; for a precise picture, your vet can advise based on breed and size.

Financial Independence Age Calculator NZ

What is financial independence?

Financial independence (FI) is the point where your investments are large enough that the income they can safely produce covers your living costs, so paid work becomes optional. It is the core idea behind the FIRE movement.

How is the FI number worked out?

A common rule of thumb is 25 times your annual spending, which matches a 4% safe withdrawal rate. So if you spend $50,000 a year, your FI number is around $1.25 million. This calculator finds the age your savings reach that number.

Is the 4% rule reliable?

It is a guide, not a guarantee. It was based on historical US data over 30 years; a longer retirement, lower returns or high inflation can make a lower rate safer. Treat the result as a target to aim for, not a promise.

Growing Degree Days Calculator NZ

How are growing degree days calculated?

Average the day's maximum and minimum temperature, subtract the base temperature for the crop, and count the result if it is positive. A day averaging 18 degrees against a base of 10 contributes 8 growing degree days. A day averaging below the base contributes nothing rather than a negative number, because cold does not undo growth already made, and treating it as negative is the most common way this calculation goes wrong.

What base temperature should I use?

It depends entirely on the crop, because the base is the temperature below which that particular plant does not grow. Maize is commonly calculated on 10 degrees and cool season grasses and cereals on a lower base, but the right figure comes from the agronomy for your crop and variety rather than from a general rule. No default is supplied here for that reason: the base is the input that decides everything else.

Why use growing degree days instead of the calendar?

Because plants respond to accumulated warmth rather than to elapsed days. A cold spring and a warm one produce the same growth stage at quite different dates but at similar degree day totals, which is why degree days predict flowering, maturity and pest generations better than the calendar does. It is also why a target expressed in degree days travels between seasons and regions in a way that a date never does.

Hours and Minutes Calculator

Why can I not just add times on a normal calculator?

Because minutes carry at sixty and a calculator carries at a hundred. Adding 7.30 and 8.15 gives 15.45, which happens to look right, but 7.40 plus 8.30 gives 16.10 when the true answer is 16 hours 10 minutes, or 16.17 in decimal. The two only agree when the minutes happen not to carry.

How do I add hours and minutes together?

Convert everything to minutes, add them, then divide by 60. The whole number is the hours and the remainder is the minutes. For example 450 plus 495 minutes is 945, which is 15 hours and 45 minutes.

What is the decimal total for?

Payroll and invoicing systems usually want decimal hours rather than hours and minutes, so a total of 35 hours 30 minutes is entered as 35.5. The decimal figure here is the one to type into a payroll field.

Hours and Minutes Calculator

How do I add up hours and minutes?

Add all the minutes together and all the hours together, then carry any minutes over 59 into hours. For example, 2 hours 45 minutes plus 1 hour 30 minutes is 3 hours and 75 minutes, which becomes 4 hours and 15 minutes. This calculator does the carrying for you.

How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?

Divide the minutes by 60 and add to the hours. So 4 hours and 15 minutes is 4 plus 15 divided by 60, which is 4.25 decimal hours. Payroll uses decimal hours because they multiply cleanly by an hourly rate.

Can I work out my pay from hours?

Yes. Enter an hourly rate and the calculator multiplies your total decimal hours by that rate. The figure is gross pay, before PAYE tax and other deductions. For take-home pay, use our PAYE Calculator.

Hours to Decimal Calculator

How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?

Divide the minutes by 60. Fifteen minutes is 0.25, thirty is 0.5 and forty-five is 0.75. Minutes that are not a quarter hour do not give a tidy decimal: twenty minutes is 0.3333 recurring and ten minutes is 0.1667.

What is 7 hours 30 minutes in decimal?

7.5 hours. Thirty minutes is half an hour, which is 0.5 in decimal, so 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5. This is one of the few conversions that lands on a tidy number, because 30 divides evenly into 60.

Does rounding decimal hours matter?

It can. Rounding 7.3333 to 7.33 loses a fraction of a minute each time, and repeated across every shift for a year it adds up to a real amount. Employers in New Zealand are required to keep accurate records of hours worked, so it is worth knowing which direction your payroll system rounds.

ISO 8601 Duration Calculator NZ

What is an ISO 8601 duration?

It is the international standard way to write a length of time in a language-independent format, starting with P and using letters to tag each unit, such as PT1H30M for one hour thirty minutes. It is widely used in APIs, databases and programming for unambiguous durations.

Why is there a T in the format?

The T separates the date part of the duration from the time part. It matters because M means months before the T but minutes after it. Putting the T before hours, minutes and seconds removes any ambiguity about what each M stands for.

How do I convert a duration to seconds?

Multiply days by 86,400, hours by 3,600 and minutes by 60, then add those to the seconds. This calculator does it automatically and shows the total, which is useful when a system expects a raw second count rather than the formatted ISO string.

Number of Days Calculator

How many days are in a year?

365 in an ordinary year and 366 in a leap year. A year is a leap year if it divides by four, except century years, which must also divide by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, 1900 was not, and 2100 will not be.

How many days are in February?

28 in an ordinary year and 29 in a leap year. February is the only month whose length changes, which is why it is the one that catches out manual calculations and spreadsheet formulas.

How many working days are in a month?

It varies between 20 and 23 depending on the month length and which day it starts on. A 31 day month starting on a Saturday contains fewer working days than a 30 day month starting on a Monday, which is why capacity planning should use the actual count rather than an average.

Reading Age Calculator NZ 2026

What reading age should I aim for?

For general public content, a reading age of around 12 to 14 is a common target, and lower for the widest possible reach. Specialist or academic writing is naturally higher. This calculator shows where your text sits so you can adjust sentence and word length.

How is reading age calculated?

This tool uses the Flesch-Kincaid formula, which combines average sentence length and average syllables per word into a school grade level, then adds about five years to estimate a reading age. Shorter sentences and simpler words lower the reading age.

Does a low reading age mean better writing?

Not always. Readability formulas measure structure, not meaning, so they reward short sentences and words but cannot judge clarity, accuracy or tone. Use the score as a prompt to simplify where you can, while keeping any technical terms your content genuinely needs.

Time Duration Between Times Calculator NZ

How do I work out hours between two times?

Convert both times to minutes from midnight, subtract the start from the end, and convert back to hours and minutes. If the end time is earlier than the start, the span runs overnight, so add 24 hours to the difference.

Does it handle overnight shifts?

Yes. If the finish time is before the start time, the calculator assumes the period crosses midnight and adds a day, so a shift from 10 pm to 6 am correctly shows 8 hours rather than a negative number.

Can I use it for timesheets and pay?

Yes, it gives both hours and minutes and a decimal hours figure, which is what payroll usually uses. Subtract unpaid breaks separately to get paid hours, then multiply by your rate for the pay for that period.

Time Duration Calculator

How do I work out the time between two times?

Convert both times to minutes since midnight, subtract the start from the end, then convert the result back to hours and minutes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the duration crosses midnight, so add 24 hours.

What are decimal hours?

Decimal hours express minutes as a fraction of an hour. For example, 7 hours and 30 minutes is 7.5 decimal hours. Payroll and timesheets often use decimal hours, because they are easy to multiply by an hourly rate.

Does this handle overnight shifts?

Yes. If the end time is before the start time, the calculator assumes the duration runs past midnight into the next day and adds 24 hours, so an overnight shift from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am correctly returns 8 hours.

Time Zone Difference Calculator

How do I find a UTC offset?

A UTC offset is how many hours a zone is ahead of or behind Coordinated Universal Time. New Zealand standard time is plus 12, and many phone clock apps show the current offset for any city. Remember to add an hour where daylight saving applies.

Does this handle daylight saving?

Not automatically. You enter the offsets yourself, so you decide whether to use the standard or daylight saving value for each location. Check whether each place is currently on daylight saving before you enter the numbers.

Why does the converted time sometimes change the day?

When the offset gap is large, converting a time can push it past midnight into the previous or next day. The tool wraps the clock within a 24 hour cycle, so always note the date alongside the time when the gap is big.

University Year Cost Calculator NZ 2026

How much does a year at university cost in NZ?

It varies widely, but once tuition, accommodation, living costs and one-off expenses are added, a year often lands between $20,000 and $30,000, with living costs the largest part. Studying from home is far cheaper than flatting or halls.

Does this include fees-free or the student loan?

No. Enter the tuition you will actually pay. If you qualify for fees-free study, enter a lower or zero tuition, and remember a student loan can cover course fees and course-related costs, and an allowance or living-cost loan can help with weekly costs.

How can students reduce the cost?

Living at home, flatting with others to split rent and power, buying second-hand textbooks and devices, and working part-time all reduce the gap. Use this calculator to set a budget, then the StudyLink and student loan tools to see what support covers it.
