How it works

The calculator finds the number of whole days between your date of birth and today, counting the actual calendar so leap days are included automatically. It then converts the day count using the fixed relationships between the units: 24 hours in a day, 1,440 minutes in a day, and 86,400 seconds in a day. The result is exact to the day: both your birth date and today are treated as whole days, so the figure does not depend on your time of birth. For scale, a 365-day year holds 31,536,000 seconds, a leap year 31,622,400, and one billion seconds is 11,574 days, or roughly 31.7 years.

Worked example

Take someone born on 15 June 1995. As at 3 August 2026, the actual calendar count between those dates is 11,372 days, with every leap year included. Multiplying by 24 gives 272,928 hours, by 1,440 gives 16,375,680 minutes, and by 86,400 gives 982,540,800 seconds. That is the figure the calculator shows for the default date, and because one billion seconds falls 11,574 days after birth, this person passed that milestone a few months after turning 31.
