Age in Seconds Calculator
This calculator works out your exact age in seconds from your date of birth, along with the equivalent in minutes and hours. Seconds are the smallest unit we commonly measure a life in, and the totals are staggering: a single year holds over 31 million of them, and by your early thirties you have lived through more than a billion. That billionth second has become a milestone people genuinely celebrate, falling about 31.7 years after the day you were born, and this tool lets you see at a glance whether yours has passed or is still ahead of you. You enter your date of birth and the calculator counts the actual calendar days between then and today in New Zealand, allowing for every leap year, then multiplies by 86,400, the number of seconds in a day. Because it works from real dates rather than assuming every year has 365 days, the answer is exact to the day. The count runs from midnight to midnight, so your time of birth is not needed, and the total grows by 86,400 seconds every single day. How it works
The calculator finds the number of whole days between your date of birth and today, counting the actual calendar so leap days are included automatically. It then converts the day count using the fixed relationships between the units: 24 hours in a day, 1,440 minutes in a day, and 86,400 seconds in a day. The result is exact to the day: both your birth date and today are treated as whole days, so the figure does not depend on your time of birth. For scale, a 365-day year holds 31,536,000 seconds, a leap year 31,622,400, and one billion seconds is 11,574 days, or roughly 31.7 years.
Worked example
Take someone born on 15 June 1995. As at 22 October 2026, the actual calendar count between those dates is 11,452 days, with every leap year included. Multiplying by 24 gives 274,848 hours, by 1,440 gives 16,490,880 minutes, and by 86,400 gives 989,452,800 seconds. That is the figure the calculator shows for the default date, and because one billion seconds falls 11,574 days after birth, this person passed that milestone a few months after turning 31.
