How do I work out my age in hours?

Count the calendar days between your date of birth and today, then multiply by 24, the number of hours in a day. Someone born on 15 June 1995 has lived 11,371 days as at 2 August 2026, which is 272,904 hours.

How many hours are in a year?

A 365-day year has 8,760 hours and a leap year has 8,784. Because leap years add up over a lifetime, the calculator counts your real days rather than multiplying your age in years by a fixed number of hours.

Does it allow for leap years?

Yes. It counts the actual calendar days between your birth date and today, so every 29 February you have lived through is included automatically and the total is exact to the day rather than an estimate.

How it works

The calculator finds the number of whole days between your date of birth and today, counting the actual calendar so leap days are included automatically. It then multiplies the day count by 24 to give hours, because every day holds 24 hours, and divides the days by 7 to give whole weeks. The result is exact to the day: it treats both your birth date and today as whole days rather than using your time of birth, so the figure is the same whether you were born at dawn or late at night. As a rough guide, a year adds about 8,760 hours, a month around 730, and a week exactly 168.

Worked example

Take someone born on 15 June 1995. As at 2 August 2026, the actual calendar count between those dates is 11,371 days, with every leap year included. Multiplying by 24 gives 272,904 hours, and dividing the days by 7 gives 1,624 whole weeks. That is the figure the calculator shows for the default date, and it grows by 24 hours with every day that passes.
