Bold Text Generator
This bold text generator converts anything you type into bold, italic, bold italic and sans-serif bold lettering that you can copy and paste anywhere plain text is accepted. Enter your words in the box and the four styled versions update as you type, each with its own copy button. The trick is that these are not formatted characters at all: they are Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols, a character block designed for mathematical notation whose letters happen to look like bold and italic versions of the ordinary alphabet. Because each styled letter is a real character rather than formatting applied over the top, the styling survives in places that strip formatting completely: Instagram bios, Facebook comments, X posts, YouTube descriptions, WhatsApp messages, Discord names and most other profiles and chat apps. People use them to make a username stand out, highlight one line in a bio, or add emphasis where a platform offers no bold button. Two caveats are worth knowing before you paste them everywhere. Screen readers often announce each symbol letter by letter, which makes styled passages painful to listen to, and search functions usually cannot match styled words against ordinary spellings, so keep these characters for short decorative touches rather than whole posts.
Letters A to Z, a to z and the digits 0 to 9 are converted; every other character, including spaces, macrons and punctuation, passes through unchanged. Italic has no Unicode digits, so numbers stay plain in that style.
Screen readers may announce these symbols letter by letter, and platform search usually cannot match them against normal spelling, so use them sparingly and never for essential information.
How it works
Unicode reserves a block called Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols for typesetting maths, and it contains complete bold, italic, bold italic and sans-serif bold alphabets. The generator maps each of your characters by a fixed offset: capital letters A to Z shift to the range starting at U+1D400 for bold, U+1D434 for italic, U+1D468 for bold italic and U+1D5D4 for sans-serif bold, while lowercase letters shift to the ranges starting at U+1D41A, U+1D44E, U+1D482 and U+1D5EE. Digits exist only for the bold and sans-serif bold styles, starting at U+1D7CE and U+1D7EC. There is one famous quirk: the italic lowercase h was already defined elsewhere in Unicode as the Planck constant symbol (U+210E), so the generator substitutes that character to avoid a gap in the alphabet. Anything that is not a basic Latin letter or digit is left exactly as you typed it.
Worked example
Type the word Calculate. The capital C (U+0043) is the third letter of the alphabet, so in the bold alphabet it becomes U+1D402, the third character after U+1D400. Each lowercase letter shifts the same way from its own base, so a becomes U+1D41A and l becomes U+1D425. Applied across all four styles, Calculate becomes 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 in bold, 𝐶𝑎𝑙𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒 in italic, 𝑪𝒂𝒍𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆 in bold italic and 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 in sans-serif bold. Copy whichever version you like and paste it straight into a bio or comment: the styling travels with the characters because it is the characters.
