How much is my student loan repayment in NZ?

Your student loan repayment in New Zealand is calculated as 12% of everything you earn above the annual repayment threshold, which is currently $24,128 (about $464 a week). If your income sits below that threshold, you make no compulsory repayments, although you can always make voluntary payments to pay off the loan faster and reduce the interest charged over time. For salary and wage earners, repayments are deducted automatically through PAYE by your employer, so the amount shown here comes off your pay before you see it. For example, on an income of $60,000 you repay 12% of the $35,872 above the threshold, which comes to about $4,305 a year, or roughly $83 a week. If you're living and working overseas, different rules apply: rather than a percentage of income, you repay a fixed amount each year based on your loan balance, no matter what you earn.
